I knew I needed to get out of the village today.
The council tree fellers have started on the dead and dying ash trees that border the old grave yard and the village is buzzing with the sound of chainsaws and wood cutters.
I had to stop for a moment to say goodbye to one particular tree which used to house Alf,Hughie and Ivy, my spirited trio of guinea fowl in years gone by.
It’s devastating to see the demise and destruction of the Ash Trees and I hope the conservation group may be able to replant some of the losses.
At least my laburnum looks robust and healthy.
The noise from the field and the cheerful banging from the CBM was all too much so I joined a friend in Liverpool for a sunny lunch outside an Italian restaurant in Liverpool One.
It seemed calmer than Trelawnyd.
Over a very nice chicken salad and a small Pinot the CBM called to say that there had been a “bit of a leak” and there was now a hole in the kitchen ceiling
I refused to get stressed by it . I’m sure it will all get sorted
After lunch I bought a glass shelf from John Lewis.
I got home after four and went to vote. It’s our local elections as well as our community council election and I’m one of 6 new prospective community councillors putting themselves forward in a bit to ensure some balance on the council .
The cottage looks a bit rough when I got home.
Hey ho
'Twill be fixed. I had to sell my last house with a hole in the bedroom ceiling. Husband had been in the attic clearing boxes and his foot slipped. I dd not swear, just walked away and counted to ten - slowly!
ReplyDeleteI’m confident things will be fine x
DeleteAs my handyman husband always said, "Everything is fixable,"
ReplyDeleteI’ve made myself useful and filled the skip tonight
DeleteNo point getting your knickers in a twist about things, the ceiling will be repaired. Hopefully some new strong, healthy saplings will be planted to replace the lost elms. Glad your laburnum is still going strong. I hope tomorrow is quieter! xx
ReplyDeleteOoops! Ash trees not elms! x
DeleteWell done in going out to luch where is was quiet. Hope it was a friend you met there and fiend!
ReplyDeleteBother about the h hole, but that's fixable.
Hugs - Barbara Anne
Make that NOT a fiend! Oh, to e able to see what I'm writing. Sigh.
DeleteMore hugs - BA
I’m tired
DeleteThings may look rough now but will be better in the end. Holes can be patched.
ReplyDeleteI hate the sound of chainsaws and would have done the same thing.
They are still working on the field and it’s 8 pm
DeleteHey, good luck in the election, John -- you'd make a terrific town councillor! And I'm sure CBM has everything well in hand and all will be fixed to perfection soon.
ReplyDeleteBless him , he’s put a light in my second toilet today
DeleteDon't you just love those kind of calls.
ReplyDelete……..not !!!!!
DeleteCouncillor John Gray has a nice ring to it x
ReplyDeleteLol it’s only the community council and I’ve done it before flis
DeleteLitter,poo,drugs and antisocial behaviour ? x
DeleteI have poked 6 times into my sitting room ceiling with a carving knife to release dripping water-unfortunately it is still unrepaired x
ReplyDeleteOver the past 6 years most of the green and blue ash trees in NE Ohio were dead or dying from the green ash beetle damage. On my little road, we lost a least a dozen of them. The magnificent trees are much missed for beauty and shade, but I will admit that I don't miss dealing with all the Fall leaves...
ReplyDeleteThe ones in the graveyard should be replaced , I’m sure we will collectively get things done
DeleteWell done you not to get het up and flustered about the cottage. One day soon you will have a sparkling new bathroom, the hole will be mended and your glass ceiling will be up. Sad about the ash trees.. Many years ago we lost three beautiful trees in our garden to Dutch Elm Disease.
ReplyDeleteYes, all I keep reminding myself is “ heated towel rail …heated towel rail……
DeleteHope you had a good time with your "fiend in Liverpool." In an old job I once ran off 100 flyers thanking the Fiends of the Library for their support.
ReplyDeleteLol he’s a good fiend
DeleteCheerful banging from the CBM? I trust that Mrs Trellis was not up there assisting him.
ReplyDeleteSteady
DeletePrepare yourself for disagreements over garage and dormer window applications in village conservation areas.
ReplyDeleteI’ve done it before Rachel, and most jobs are piss boring , but the council is in need of some balance that’s why six of us have put our names forward
DeleteGood of you to give your time to the village if you are elected. Hope the CBM will finish up soon!
ReplyDeleteA few more days yet x
DeleteNice to know you can trust the CBM. Things happen. As for the fiend you met for lunch... Tell us more.
ReplyDeleteOnly lunch DeArheart x
DeleteOnly lunch DeArheart x
DeleteAre you dreaming of heated towl rails?! Rest up, my hubbub tomorrow but you'll be a day closer to completion!!
ReplyDeleteHugs - Barbara Anne
I am indeed
DeleteSorry to read about the hole in your ceiling. I hope it isn't big.
ReplyDeleteI hate seeing trees cut down. Here in St Louis,Missouri the ash borer insects have been ruining so many trees. Along the Misissippi River Front where the Arch and Arch grounds are, they have "pre emptively" cut down 800 beautiful and mature ash trees, that were always so beautiful especially in fall. They are being replaced with London Plane trees. I hope London Plane trees are as pretty as the ash trees were. I hope my grandchidren will be able to enjoy shade from them someday. Do you find London Plane trees to be an attractive tree? I am not familiar with them.
It’s big enough
DeleteStill standing after all these years....still standing.
ReplyDeleteAin’t we all
DeleteGuinea fowl - wonderful birds. Something primeval about them. A shame about the ash trees. It's happening (cutting them down) across the UK due to ash die-back. The spores that cause die-back are released in spring, hence the impetus to cut back infected trees. Sadly, I doubt they'll replace them with more ash trees.
ReplyDeleteI loved my guinea fowl more than any other of my birds except Boris the turkey

I was reading this morning of local council elections in part of the UK. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteAll will be well. Eventually. And I have to tell you that the word laburnum sounds like a malady affecting lady parts. To me, at least.
ReplyDeleteA little something always goes askew in every renovation. A ceiling hole isn't great but CBM can fix it. Soon you'll be enjoying your new bathroom and heated towels. Pure luxury!
ReplyDeleteA freshly plastered and painted kitchen ceiling, better than before. Best not to panic, it was nice of him to let you know and not come home and find the hole and not CBM.
ReplyDeleteLOL ... It's the little things that count, John. Heated towel rails are a luxury!! And a light in the outside toilet!
ReplyDeleteI met a couple of 60's throwback hippies in the park yesterday. They were whittling spoons and spatulas from the branches of a nearby felled dead tree. I could almost hear the sounds of Woodstock.
ReplyDeleteAnd smell the Patchouli oil?
DeleteIm adoring the guinea fowl of yours from yester year.
ReplyDeleteNot good to hear trees being cut down. Especially ones which you have good memories of.
ReplyDeleteI thought those were buzzards at first. Shows how much I know about birds.
ReplyDeleteLiverpool 1 being more peaceful than Trelawnyd???
ReplyDeleteHow on earth did that happen? Or is the lack of available cash for some people beginning to show, with places such as L1 being less busy.
I avoid L1 whenever possible, I spent very many happy hours in the old John Lewis store (George Henry Lee as was) but absolutely loathe the new store in L1. The old shop was, admittedly, a rabbit warren, but I knew my way around it, and it was a sort of sanctuary from the shopping madness, the new shop seems to invite the madness in!
Hoping your bathroom is coming on apace! Col. X
