The new bathroom is finished,
A few minor tweaks need to be done, what with a new shower head and the like but it’s finally done and dusted and finished.
I know it’s just a tiny bathroom, in a tiny cottage, but having the final room in my home changed remains a sort of landmark for me. It’s me, finally putting, my stamp on my home, in my way.
The final ghosts of it being a former marital home, chased away a little more.
It also underlines my a certain balance in my financial independence - and just to think only a few years ago, that independence was in question as the cottage was on the market.
And so here it is, all six foot square of it.
I’ve seen posher
I’ve pooed in posher
But this is all mine
And it’s made me very happy.
Oh, John, it's just perfect! Give CBM a pat on the back from me. xx
ReplyDeleteI bought him a huge carried bag of cider
DeleteIt’s splendid John
ReplyDeleteAs you say, the final piece in making the cottage your cottage
Siobhan
Yes. A few more little touches to go. The CBM is putting a roof over the patio and a bookcase into the office next
DeleteVery nice!!!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks great! Neat and tidy and ALL YOURS.
ReplyDeleteDawn P. Albany, GA USA

DeleteMave is an animal
DeleteOh I love it x
ReplyDeleteThank u
DeleteEnjoy.
ReplyDeleteNot sure why my comment has up as anonymous. It looks lovely so enjoy it.
DeleteGoogle blogger is a law unto itself
DeleteI love it! It looks very posh to me. I love the pedestal sink, the shower, all of it! Your decorating is spot on. Congratulations John, well done!
ReplyDeleteThank you Bonnie, i know it sounds needy but it means a lot people that people like it,
DeleteYou are such a Needy schoolgirl john
DeleteAre you happy Anon telling me this?
DeleteJohn , you already know the answer to this
DeleteNo ….Anon is not happy …..
Anon…is rather sad
Thanks Ben , I’m not surprised
DeleteGoing on about it so much made the views an anticlimax.
ReplyDeleteLooks a bit pokey, like a Ocean Liner Bathroom.
But if you like it?
Pfft!!!!
DeleteYes, I was worried I’d “ over egged the pudding “ Anon… but I am very happy at the result
DeleteIs Anon now 'Pfft!!! - ing' at herself or do we have two Anons haha :-)
DeleteIt is gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteWe must all praise, John, must not we? Welcome to the cult.
DeleteWhat a kind thing to say.
DeleteKind and very worthy of you.
Ben
Oh dear. I know who wrote that one ..hey ho
DeleteAce!
ReplyDeleteAce..a positive from the 1980s
DeleteLookin' good. Good clean lines. But the sense of achievement and financial freedom probably matters more to you. I have my new kitchen being fitted in a couple of weeks. I think I need to start clearing the cupboards now!!
ReplyDeleteI feel a bit grown up ….does that make sense ?
DeleteIt looks nice. The wall mounted baskets under the sink are a nice touch. A bit more storage, but doesn't take up visual space like a full vanity would have. And the fish fabric - now that it's on the wall, it looks fine the way it is. The mat doesn't seem nearly so harsh as it did in the prior photo.
ReplyDeleteThe wire baskets are just sitting on a tiled part that is covering the pipework, they're not attached to the wall.. If you look at the photo with the shower on you can see.that.
DeleteThe cottage has its limitations …no boiler…no space for underfloor pipes etc
DeleteCongrations ! it is all yours. I am so happy for you. I shower is FABULOUS.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gayle ..with your sense of style I’m flattered
DeleteIt all looks very nice. You will love the towel bar!!! The koi pictures look fine too.
ReplyDeleteThey compliment the koi on the tea cup on the sink
DeleteTo anonymous whoever you are: why don't you just stfu? John has paid for and put his stamp on his house and is moving forward. If you don't care for it that is fine but why do you have to try to bring him down with your negativity?
ReplyDeleteNot bringing me down today Linda …Ben said it for me in his comment and in an email …”.the bile people spew reflect their own pain”
DeleteThanks Ben x
Then perhaps we should show compassion for those people in pain instead of other commenters verbally attacking them.
DeleteDeb
I've done that with several menaces-and to no avail-in my experience they each one got nastier x
DeleteOh John, your bathroom is gorgeous!! I love the white and black tiles. I am so glad it makes you happy.❤️
ReplyDeleteI know it sounds a bit daft but it does
DeleteVery chic.
ReplyDeleteHelen
Thank u Helen
DeleteIt looks wonderful , I am so jealous I have been asking my husband to do something about our bathroom for 16 years .
ReplyDeleteI’ve never had a bathroom of “ my own” and in this house I’ve waited 16 years!
Delete❤️❤️❤️❤️
ReplyDeleteWho is that with 4 hearts ?
DeleteA very nice balance to the heartless anonymous.
DeleteIt looks really lovely. Now that the fish picture is up it compliments the bathroom perfectly. I think it's just the right touch. You will enjoy. Worth the wait. Just perfect.
ReplyDeleteMy other bit of wall art is a selection of welsh words
DeleteSent to me by a friend at work who is trying to teach me welsh
It looks terrific, especially the shower! And hey, a heated towel rack IS posh in my books!
ReplyDeleteAnd in mine ..land now I have a toilet DOWNSTAIRS too
DeleteDownstairs indoors John? Or is that the outdoor privy?
DeleteDeb.
It's lovely John, clean with all your personal touches.
ReplyDeleteI’m such a titivator
DeleteAbsolutely yours. That is what matters. This is your home.I am very happy to share your pleasure. Jo in Coventry.x
ReplyDeleteThank you jo..fairy lights are lit
DeleteIts lovely. Black and white is a smart base for your personal touches. I particularly like all the plants.
ReplyDeleteYes, thank lockdown for the plants, I started collecting them then
DeleteFantastic, black and white never dates. I bet the shower is lush!
ReplyDeleteI can’t use it until tomorrow !!!
DeleteHow marvelous and well worth waiting for! Enjoy the bliss of that perfect shower!
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Forgot to say i love the mirror!
DeleteIs there room for the carp #2 over the heated towel bar?
Hugs!
The mirror was my grandmothers and is one of the few items I still have of hers as she was never a lady who had very much. I’m so happy we recycled it to be used everyday
DeleteOutstanding accomplishment! I think it looks fantastic. It is always so enjoyable to delight in the future with improvements of your home which is so important to feel comfortable in. Happy living - and showering!
ReplyDeleteThank you Mary
DeleteIt is a delight and will give you so much pleasure!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I honestly feel like a grown up
DeleteToday is one of those days
Silly eh?
Wonderful. And your tiny (and lovely) bathroom is indeed a huge positive step for you.
ReplyDeleteMy CBM WILL be my CPM soon, he’s cheerfully putting a roof over the patio next
DeleteOh you will enjoy the roof, sitting outside in the summer rain is one of life’s great pleasures. Love your style. CurlyClub
DeleteI’ve always been a late starter ..
DeleteVery nice! And, yes, something to feel proud of. Love the koi art, by the way. Thanks you for giving your readers a little tour. --Elise
ReplyDeleteThere’s nothing better than a nose around someone else’s home . We all love it
DeleteWell, shoot, my comment doesn’t appear. I was just about to comment again and realized I didn’t see the first one. So, just want to tell you that I absolutely love the bathroom. Seriously LOVE the bathroom. May you spend many happy hours in the new reading room.
ReplyDeleteLots of comments are hidden in spam , I have to keep releasing them
DeleteLooks fabulous- what a great feeling to have it all completed and as you say, it’s a significant step in making the cottage your own. Athene
ReplyDeleteThe last room athene
DeleteI’ve always hated it too
It looks lovely and well worth waiting for - thanks for all the lovely pics. The accessories really finish it off.
ReplyDeleteWendy (Wales)
I like the little Japanese tea bowl in the bathroom, I can see it when I’m on the loo
DeleteIt is really lovely and the fish pictures fit in perfectly. I have never had a new bathroom and can imagine how wonderful it feels for you to have curated yours! x
ReplyDeleteI’m 60 this year and this is my first Simone
DeleteYou've come a long way, John - well done. (And to CBM!).
ReplyDeleteIt’s not much in the great scheme of things but it feels good today my friend
Deletewow, is that a heated towel rack? Posh indeed.
ReplyDeletececi
I know, I nearly wet myself when he factored one in
Deleteit looks beautiful - and its all yours - enjoy.
ReplyDeleteThank you anon
DeletePlease always give your name anons
DeleteSo your removed your bathtub, John? I love your new and improved bathroom and he did that quickly! Will he next work on the ye old Outhouse?
ReplyDeleteXO Ruth in Oxnard California
Yes, I hated it ….and it took an age for the thermal store to fill it with hot water, especially in summer. Now I have instant hot water
DeleteWhy do you call it a bathroom when it doesn't have a bath? Is that an English/UK thing? Shower room and restroom? Toilet with shower? Poop piss and polish room? But not a bathroom surely? -J-
ReplyDeleteForce of habit
DeleteNow I shall refer to it as my clean room
It's a room to bathe your body - .a batheroom.
DeleteDeb.
In Australia it's called a bathroom, bath or not
DeleteLooks nice
ReplyDeleteThank you Adam x
DeleteJohn , do you need everyone to love your style ?
DeleteCath
Lol no cath , I don’t ….
DeleteI really don’t .
Some bloggers I know well, have gone out of their way NOT to say nice things about things in my life only because others have already done so..that upsets me more than anyone who disagrees or who dislikes my style.
It’s like I’m being taught a lesson of sorts
IVE Never understood it…
If you are my friend..you celebrate my happiness
Because if you are my friend , I will always celebrate yours ….
Hey ho
I understand it John-I have experience of 4 persons for sure who do it for their"control"issues they need to survive their own life x
DeleteNice answer, John. We can't all agree all the time, but we can delight in another's happiness and successes. xx
DeleteAnd whatever it is flis of course either knows someone who it happened to or it happened to him.
DeleteI am 62 years young a non x
DeleteWow! That looks amazing. Looks like he did an excellent job! I bet you couldn't wait to take a nice long shower!
ReplyDeleteI haven’t taken one yet!!!!! Tomorrow I can lol
DeleteIt’s stunning ! Lovely , lovely , lovely xx
ReplyDeleteThank you thank you
DeleteTerrific! My favorite parts are the windows and the mirror. Just perfect!
ReplyDeleteThank you, I love your style so praise from you is lovely
DeleteWow its finished! How fantastic does it all look. Love the black and white; such clean lines for a compact space. I have to say though the shower looks really big! The Koi linen looks just right. I love they way you have decorated with your accessories it's very you! Enjoy it all!
ReplyDeleteJo in Auckland
Dear jo,
DeleteThe shower is big, It has to accommodate me x
I meant big for a small space ... nothing to do with anything personal ...besides which you aint that big!
DeleteJo in Auckland
I like big x
DeleteIt looks brilliant John ..... you must be so pleased. We are having our old , leaking, rotten conservatory knocked down and a new one going up and knocking through into the kitchen ..... I'm dreading it !!!!! XXXX
ReplyDeleteThank you Jacqueline , your praise means a lot x
DeleteYou've made the most of every inch and the white tile plus the generous windows gives it a bright and roomy feel. You SHOULD feel good about this - it's wonderful!

ReplyDeleteThat is me… Virginia, trying to comment and Google is being particularly unhelpful!
ReplyDeleteI got ya xxx
DeleteI LOVE IT!!!! Im a sucker for subway tile. Make for esy clean up should there be any splatters. Love the use of space too. And nothing like a window for fresh air.
ReplyDeleteGood on you boy.
I know a gay friend said it looked like a public toilet lol
DeleteLooks pretty awesome!!!! Love the tile, the layout, the light. Enjoy!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank u x
DeleteLooks superb. Love it
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic, do you think CBM would do our new bathroom in North Yorkshire? You have a 'good' eye for interior design.
ReplyDeleteI love it, John!
ReplyDeleteLove the clear glass shelving! A shaving brush and soap! 😳 My Dad used one of those!
All of your little knick-knacks are perfect for you! Such a treat for you and, yes, you should feel very grown up! It's a man's bathroom! Shower tomorrow in good health!
Not that you need another comment telling you how great it looks, but will do anyway...particularly love the black and white theme, the subway tiles are a great go to, the mirror is lovely, and all the clean lines in the design, and your decorating is very nice also. I would be jealous, if we hadn't redone our entire bathroom 4 years ago. But, that's a whole 'nother story. Enjoy! Ranee (MN) USA
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part is the mirror and all is clean and lovely for a new start. Now for a 20 minute shower or two.
DeleteIt's brilliant. You are going to enjoy this so much. Well worth the waiting, grief and £££s.
ReplyDeleteLove it. Very you. Love Weave
ReplyDeleteLove it! Enjoy pooing in there.
ReplyDeleteBravo to you and the CBM. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteBonnie in Minneapolis
It looks classic, cool, bright/light and very, very well designed. You will never tire of this design. Pedestal sink, glass shower enclosure, glass shelving and the very important heated tower rack. Woo hoo! Well done John!
ReplyDeleteI love the black and white. We redid our kitchen in black and white last fall and I'm thrilled with it. I'm a vintage kind of gal and black and white to me is timeless. Your bathroom is gorgeous...enjoy!
ReplyDelete
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I always like it when a project is done and you just enjoy it. You did a great job picking out tiles and designing the bathroom.
It looks great. Now just to declutter.
ReplyDeleteSuperb comment Andrew!
DeleteReall y?
DeleteOh dear, subway tiles are so last year darling. Did your little man have a surplus of them that he was desperate to get rid of?
ReplyDeleteHave you a coin operated turnstyle instead of a door?
Take away the clutter and it's public lavatory chic.
LOL ^. We re did our bathroom last year. I wanted blues accent tiles and had an awful time finding some because I was told blue was " out" of style. I found some finally and love them. Seems.gray and brown were the colors of the moment and I wanted neither. Always get what you like because you are the one living with it!
DeleteIt's timeless and beautiful, John.
ReplyDeleteI love it, every square inch of it. I'm Gail, in Northern California, USA
ReplyDeleteAround 4pm today (well yesterday now in UK) I was taking my ease lounging on the sofa with one of my heads coming on when suddenly my tich jumped from his bed and looked up to the ceiling-lo and behold water dripping through from above-I rushed to grab a vessel to catch water and hurried upstairs to the bathroom-A person had decided the mirror on wall to be "filthy" and rather than just remove from the hook to clean -they rinsed it with shower spray and water poured onto the floor! x
ReplyDeleteI am happy that you are happy. Lol that subway tile is "so last year". Someone trying to present their opinion as fact. I can guess who THAT is.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! I like a bit of arty stuff in a bathroom, and your art deco mirror is a very covetable item.
ReplyDeleteCBM appears to have done a brilliant job in double quick time. That fellow should be cloned.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to believe CBM did all that by himself and in record time. He's a keeper.
ReplyDeleteI think it is lovely and it is all yours!!!!
ReplyDeleteMine mine mine
DeleteJohn, it's great. Heated towel rack among the best. Do you know how long it took to scroll to the end and leave a comment!?
ReplyDeleteHey..people love bathrooms lol
DeleteJohn, I love it, and I'm glad you're happy with how it all turned out! Subway tiles are what I dream of doing in my kitchen and bathrooms - They're classic and timeless!
ReplyDeleteCheers Kim x and the dogs can be showered
DeleteEvery little thing in the room looks so thoughtfully chosen…..it is just lovely ! Linda from Alabama
ReplyDeleteOf course..almost painfully lol
DeleteBeautiful! Love the black and white tile. Happy poos! :-)
ReplyDeleteAlready had
DeleteOne of the BEST features of your simple Subway tiles is that they NEVER DATE… unlike patterned tiles/uneven glass tiles/large tiles/ waterfalls etc etc, which go out of fashion, those white subway ones, with a black accent tile will always look great. And won’t need updating in a few years. You have done a super job. What a find your builder is!!
ReplyDeleteVirginia
He will return . I have more jobs
DeleteI like it and it will feel so good as your own space now. The heated towel rail will be amazing on a chilly winter morning. Happy for you and with you.
ReplyDeleteI know I've blown it up a bit but it's nice to share good fortune
DeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely, such a shame you're not straight
ReplyDeleteHumm I think I'd never be single if I was straight
DeleteWonderful! Dreams DO come true. xx
ReplyDeleteYour bathroom has a wonderful Art Deco feel and the accessories are all chosen personally by you. It’s a timeless colour palette which can be changed by using different accessories when you need a change. It’s beautiful and my favourite part is the framed koi fabric. Catriona
ReplyDeleteCatriona that was the look I wanted to hint at without going all period about things
DeleteCBM has done you proud. Looks lovely John, Jan Bx
ReplyDeleteThat little puffin must have flown across the room when you weren't looking !! It all looks great. Where did the little cup with the fish on go to in the other pics?
ReplyDeleteBlack and white..of course he did
DeleteIt looks really great - I love it! Especially like all the accessories - the mirror, koi pictures and the black accents to things. Your builder has done an amazing job. You can enjoy it for many years to come. People keep saying metro tiles have had their day. I think they've become timeless. Whenever I see them they always look good.
ReplyDeleteYes I agree
DeleteSo beautiful,
ReplyDeleteThank you yael
ReplyDeleteThanks Jan anon and big praise from you wcs, with your taste
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful John, what a great job! I'm sure you'll enjoy it, I love the black and white theme! I've been following your blog for years and it's part of my evening relaxation to tune in and catch up on your latest adventures, especially the dogs and Albert. As an old nurse before a late career change to medical librarian, I enjoy reading about your very insightful and often humourous experiences. Thank you for everything you've written !
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful! Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteIt looks very chic. I love the glass shelves.
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful. Your bathroom guy has done a brilliant job and you have designed it so well.
ReplyDeleteIn fact we have similar sized bathrooms although mine is such a funny shape, but by and large is approx. 6ft x 5ft with a shower sized cut-out into the kitchen space.
