First Kiss

Kitchen table
Coffee.
The bantam cockerel is noisy next door which is strange as it’s 10.30.
I’m planning my cooking for the weekend as I’m working both days
Katsu curry, sushi and mushroom noodles.
Tonight I’m out to dinner for a colleagues leaving do .
The 1970s Italian in Conwy, Alfredo’s

More coffee, me thinks, then I need to post some birthday cards.
Amongst others it’s Nu’s birthday tomorrow.

My nephew texted me yesterday
The message was simple and to the point.
Julie and I had our first kiss today”
I was touched he had shared the milestone with me and managed a exuberant reply of “ OMG !”
“ Yep “ came the economical and proud response.
I told him to keep on practicing if he liked it
And he sent me lots of laughing emojis
😆🤣

Now my first kiss with a girl was a somewhat overblown and unpleasant affair, Her name was Eirian  and the kiss was wet and sloppy and passionless. She had a bosom that acted as though it had a brain of its own and I felt somewhat hemmed in by it and Eirian’s lips as I lay prostrate on her parents couch.
I was sixteen and disappointed

I was 18 when I was kissed by a man.
It felt like a one off as it was by the brother of my then girlfriend and although it felt right in so many ways, it totally felt wrong in others.

It was six years later when I was more grown up when I had my second , proper snog with a man.

Now this too was a strange affair which happened after midnight in the back entrance doorway of Bootham Park Hospital’s psychiatric wing.
He was a policeman with a thick black beard who had stopped for a cuppa at our mother and baby unit
I was showing him out when he unexpectedly pushed me against the door and kissed me.
If there was more to the moment, like the build up of flirting or any furtive blushing , I can’t recall it.
I always remember him as being tall and cheerful, and full of manly smiles.
I wonder now if he was just a security guard.

But his kiss was a million miles away from the ones I had experienced before.
And one or two since.

The first time a man kissed me I was fifteen and I felt butterflies. He was my best friend. Yay for your nephew!
And I love Heartstopper! I've read all the books and have watched the series twice now.

    XOXO

    1. It’s sweet isn’t it….it’s being lauded by many gay men who wish they’d experience first love like the love shon on the series

  2. My first proper kiss was with Susan Dean on the back seat of the hire bus that had taken us to Whitby on our annual school trip. I was ten years old and she was eleven. It felt good. We kind of got lost in it. Later that summer I kissed Gillian Hartley inside a haystack. Her lips were smooth and slippery like the inside of a shellfish and again we got kind of lost. KIssing can be like a sort of miniature dance in which we express ourselves without words before coming up for air.

Oh that's so sweet. Is Julie on the Spectrum too? My eldest son is Autistic and I think he was about the same age as your nephew when he got his first girlfriend but he never shared the details with me, its his sisters who filled me in on all the details of fumblings in the bushes on the park lol. This prompted the discussion of contraception etc which he visibly cringed throughout but better safe than sorry has always been my attitude

  4. How lovely that your nephew feels secure in his relationship with you to share that magical moment. I can't recall my first kiss, so it was obviously nothing to write home about! xx

    2. OK. My now husband, before we got together. We were friends, walking to the station from college. He kissed me, and I remember thinking I shouldn't be doing this as I had a boyfriend already, but I enjoyed it so much. I still love kissing him, after nearly 47 years of marriage. xx

  7. So lovely that your nephew just had to tell you his lovely news. A first kiss is so special ... I can just imagine his grin when he got your 'OMG'.

My first kiss was with Duncan Kettle under a street light, half way up a set of steps leading to the main road above a train line. It would have been magical except that he had done EXACTLY the same thing in the same place with my best friend just two weeks before and she had told me all about it ... and it was too sloppy to put up with more than once, no wonder she had dumped him after two days!!

    2. I do remember "making out" with a boy in high school who was trying to slip his tongue in (we called it french kissing) and I would have nothing to do with that! Good Catholic girl that I was then had learned that was a terrible sin and kept my teeth tightly locked! Luckily, I got over that by the time I was in College! :)

Your cop/guard kiss sounds so erotic. I do remember such one off passions and they could be mind blowing. I remember them so vividly.

  12. Funny- I've been thinking lately about my first kiss. Lucky for me it was with someone that I did indeed feel quite attracted to and he was sweet and so was the kiss.

    Lovely post!
My first kiss was from Dave, a work=mate who was my age and it as a sloppy, not-so-pleasant kiss. I was aslo kissed by two bold doctors after I was married. Those kises weren't welcome.

    Hugs!

  14. My first kiss (with a guy) was with someone I wasn't very attracted to but it wasn't unpleasant. I just remember noticing how different it was from kissing a girl. Whiskers!

  20. My first kiss was when I was about eight or nine from a boy I was very fond of; sadly he was killed in a climbing accident on Skye several years later, My best kiss was from an out of work Argentinian boxer on the steps of the Sacre Coeur, followed by a marriage proposal. I often wonder what my life would have been like if I'd said yes!

  21. First kiss was with a university student while I was waiting for a taxi home and he seemed more nervous than I was. Not great for either of us I think. I remember hoping that it could be better than that.

  22. How great for your nephew and sweet that he told you. I don’t remember my first kiss with a girl. I remember my first serious makeout session, however -- when I was 15 on my girlfriend’s parents’ plastic-slipcovered-sofa. It was squeaky and sticky. My first man-on-man kiss, I was 27. My first thought: I’ve never kissed a mustache before. This is hot!

My first kiss was beautiful, soft and gentle, with someone I thought would be the love of my life. It was in the 60's and with no mobiles or house telephones and living some miles away from each other we lost touch. I can't remember his last name now so there's no way in finding out how he fared in life. But I do hope he's had a happy life with someone who adored him
As I'm now in my 70's and haven't kissed anyone for a long time I do sometimes wonder if I'd even know how to do it - can someone tell me how people kiss these days? In my youth it was with closed lips, no tongues or french kissing as we called it - much too racy for "good girls"
