Chairs and Carpets

I was late home tonight.
I witnessed a road accident in Colwyn Bay and stopped to help.
The girl was ok in the bashed mini but I had quite a lot of blood on my hands from a laceration on her knuckles
She told me I looked like her dad as we waited for the police
She was in shock

I needed the last of my Christmas gin when I got home.
The bats were out in force in the lane as the dogs returned
My friend Nigel sent an email about his birthday gift to me
We have the same birthday
Under his message was one from a furniture company
I bought a chair from them  a few months ago and they cheerfully told me that it should be delivered tomorrow
A friend had a similar one and I loved the way it felt when I sat in it
I’m a sucker for nice chairs

Just the living room carpet to change,
I’ve toyed with a hardwood floor
But you bloody well  can’t have slippy floors with bulldogs around……

They just can’t fucking corner

I can imagine a bulldog doing handbrake turns on a hardwood floor...it would probably be even more spectacular than the corgi we had when I was a teenager!!

Gorgeous chair, where's it from? I've been looking for something like that for our reading corner. Maxine

  7. Love the chair... I'm also a sucker for a nice chair. I don't take my credit card if I go to a furniture store these days . Glad the girl was ok despite the blood!

One dark rainy evening on the way home from my birthday meal with relatives I noticed a person laying at the bottom of a steep hill in the road -He had fallen off his bike I think-We called for an ambulance-I knelt alongside him and we spoke of his partner until they arrived-One of my relatives said they had thought I wound talk him to death but my nurse friends told me previously you must not let anyone drift away x

Thankfully, medics are never 'off duty' in an emergency. Twice I have been stuck in the queue behind serious accidents. Each time there were either nurses or doctors in their cars who ran forward to see if they could help. One injured man lost part of his leg, but lived thanks to a junior doctor going on holiday.

    6. Well I just learned something new. I'm more familiar with the term "pissed" as meaning very angry. Though in case of a car accident, either meaning would suit.

Flis please do look at how you spend the precious hours of your life, the hours you spend on returning and commenting on the same posts on John's blog show that you may benefit from pursuing other interests. It isn't healthy to be so obsessed with his blog and returning to posts from days ago, just to make a retort to an anonymous reader. Obsession can become addiction.

  11. Caring never really ends. Would stone or slate floors work? Something with some texture, but still easy to clean. One of the hotels in Ireland had heated floors, heavenly.

A medic is never off duty and you deserved the gin. Your new chair is just the kind I like and the pattern is lovely. We have some carpets and some wooden floors but the rooms with carpets are definitely cosier.

  14. I once had a chair like that when I had my first baby, every time I sat in it with her, I managed to bang her head on the wooden arms! She's 58 now and teaching Literature so couldn't have done her much harm.

  16. Just today sent my large sectional off to my niece's new family home. Loved that piece, but it really overpowered the room, so I'm glad to say farewell. Ordered a loveseat and a recliner. I'll be dozing in front of the TV soon!

  20. Love the new chair. Consider wood floor with tile inlay. My dog has no trouble with tile.

  21. This discussion about the floor made me laugh. When I was a kid, we had carpeting in the livingroom, tile in the kitchen. When it was time to feed the dog, he tear through the livingroom, hit the tile in the kitchen and skid into the cupboards. Thanks for the smile.

  26. What a way to end the day. Hope the girl is already recovered well. I never thought about bulldog-safe flooring. I just looked at a bunch of comical images of bulldogs doing splits on wood and tile floors. Now I get it.

  27. I have a lovely comfy armchair in the living room, which Jenny has wanted to get rid of for years because she doesn't like the colour. So far I've successfully resisted her.

  28. Love the chair. As for the floors, we have found, as our dogs got old and less sure on their feet, that wooden floors caused some distressing falls, so I'd stick with carpet.

  29. Rubber booties for the bulldog?

    ReplyDelete
  30. I toy with laminate flooring John - it seems to be in fashion but frankly there is no comfort in it that I can see and I would not be able to walk around without slippers for fear of slipping over. Aded to that I now have this enduring image of a non cornering bulldog to cope with.

  31. There have been times when I've had trouble just keeping straight never mind cornering :)

  32. Ooh, I do understand about slippery floors! I have a friend who has those little rubber nails applied to her doggo's feet so he doesn't slip and slide! He is rather incontinent so they wanted floors that were easier to clean, and the little rubber things were the answer! We have "luxury vinyl planking" which is really linoleum on planks. It's less expensive than real wood and nearly waterproof. We had carpet before, but with our legions of cats, good God, it suffered, and so did I with all the cleaning!

I’m voting for wood floors you can put rugs down

  35. I wish I would have known about the rubber toenail grips that glue on for dogs while Fuzzy was still alive. It would have made it safer for him to do his Pomeranian spins and maybe it would have muffled the loud tapping of his nails on the floor. (Oh, how I wish I could hear that tapping sound again).
We were constantly having to grind his nails down because of his loud claw tapping. He could make it even louder if he wanted something from us.
The hardwood floors are wonderful for cleanup and sanitizing if you have dogs or cats or both, and in our house the wood floor seems to reflect the light and make it brighter in here without glare.

  38. I'm glad that you were there to help ... and that you had some of that Christmas gin left at home to settle your nerves afterwards.

Pugs don't corner well either hence me having so many rugs on my tiled floors. That chair looks comfy, you will have to try and get on it first before the dogs discover that!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Are there any dogs that corner well on hard floors? Or cats for that matter. I like the chair, though for myself, I like a chair with a high back to lean my head on. Which probably explains my propensity to fall asleep watching TV at night.

At our new house, we have tiles and wooden floors. the 2 cats do not corner well when playing chase! It's hilarious but slightly concerning on the stairs. Bev
