Hattie & Mary

Animals have friendships just as humans do
Mary and Hattie are a perfect example of this
Hattie, as you may remember is the young nurse who used to live in the village by the old post office.
She energetically threw herself into every social activity going. Singing in the community choir, supporting the Women’s Institute and being one of the street wardens during covid as well as being my Church bell co ringer when people used to clap for nurses and every week she used to take Mary out for a long walk and a cuddle.

Hattie and I at the Folk Weekend in the Hall

During lockdown she and her boyfriend moved to the next village in a new build where they’ve had Baby Freya and her absence and cheerfulness has been greatly missed .
Mary hasn’t seen her friend for a year now and went absolutely mental when Hattie leant over the kitchen wall yesterday afternoon to say hello.
Very gently she sniffed at Freya and joyfully joined the family for a long walk, her tale whirling like a helicopter as they made their way down the lanes to the West.

  6. The comings and goings of people must be confusing to pets.

  7. Hattie's Baby Freya looks a lot like her Mama I think. She's a real cutie! I wish I could have seen Mary when she first saw Hattie. It's wonderful they could get together again!

So happy that Mary and Hattie reconnected for a lovely walk and Freya is adorable! As a dog person, I can imagine Mary's joy when Hattie appeared. Warm heart cockles all around.

    Hugs!

  9. Dogs usually have a nose for recognizing a good 'un.

  10. How sweet little Freya looks - bundled up on her mother's front. Sorry Mary - you have moved down Hattie's pecking order but just by one.

  13. Oh good dog Mary! Sniffing Freya... that instant understanding for the missing Hattie and the joy to have your wonderful walking friend back with her plus one. I sniffed at the helicopter tail of happiness whilst the walk down the lane. All's well that ends well and may that be a new beginning for all concerned in the helicopter fraternity.

  14. Sounds like a nice afternoon out for both of them, I bumped into a co-worker in the office on Friday, I asked what was new, he said, since we last met he is the father of 1.5 sons - the second one is due later summer.

  15. Baby Freya was an extra bonus for Mary.

My little Fuzzy used to love babies so much. He used to lay by our grandson's playpen and watch over him as he slept. I never allowed Fuzzy to lick faces, mine or my grandson's. I am weird that way. Last year, eleven years after our first grand child, Fuzzy was so happy and excited to meet our second grandchild, a sweet baby girl. He sniffed and sniffed her tiny feet and even licked those little toes when he thought no one was looking. His fluffy curled up Pomeranian tail was wagging so fast. Our grand daughter looked at him wondering what kind of toy he was that licked toes.

  17. Cats love too. Had an orange & white tabby who adored my pal K. We moved to Indiana. About 3 years later K. came to visit. The front door was open, just the screen door door was closed, so instead of knocking, she just called "Anybody home?" Fafhrd was in the bedroom with me. I will put my hand on my heart and swear when that cat launched himself off the bed, his feet did not hit the ground until he was down the hall and in front of the door. That whole weekend he kept K. in his sight.
