Slightly hungover this morning.
So after an extra long hot shower, I ambled in the rain and the deserted London streets across Chinatown, down to Piccadilly.
Fortum&Mason’s restaurant 45 Jermyn Street is a very elegant place indeed and Nu was sitting waiting for me when I got there.
It was lovely to catch up in person and I felt very decadent eating kedgeree and sipping very strong coffee in one of the red leather booths.
Following breakfast, I left Nu to go to Pilates and did some book shopping, before hiding in from the rain in a coffee shop before meeting Steve from https://shadowsteve.blogspot.com/
Who was charming and funny and allowed me to monopolise the conversation with typical Southern politeness.
On the way home x
( I treated myself to two F&M scotch eggs for tea………bloody nectar truffle scotch eggs 19£ for four)
How much does kedgeree cost at F&M?
ReplyDelete15£
DeleteThat figures. I once spent £5 on 100 gms of very ordinary jelly babies there. The bag was worth more than the contents.
DeleteFortnum and Mason is my favourite shop. We visit once a year in the autumn and it's always a treat. You didn't pop in for their scotch eggs?
ReplyDeleteI bought two
DeleteI like Steve-I've now just visited his blog which I'm sure he will be delighted to know!-Nice dog-my previous was a Staffordshire(cross lurcher Queenie)-notice on front of cage at dogs home said" not to go to a house with men? x
ReplyDeleteHuh ?lol
DeleteAs I was looking at her slumped in her plastic bed they saw me and said"is there a man in the house?"-I replied there was-they asked to have a look at the man-luckily they said"it's ok he doesn't look like the men"? x
DeleteHow posh, breakfast at F and M! xx
ReplyDeleteIt was incredibly posh
DeleteI loved it
Sounds like a dream... except the hangover.
ReplyDeleteIt was minor
DeleteSounds like great fun! I am happy to hear that you got to meet up with Steve! For some reason, I love it when my blogging friends can get together. Then I get to read about it twice! Glad you enjoyed your getaway!
ReplyDeleteWe had a right old gossip
DeleteYou didn't monopolize the conversation! And you hid your hangover well. :)
ReplyDeleteLol , it was great to meet u
DeleteWhat a posh breakfast, you deserve a treat. I'm glad you picked up a couple of Scotch Eggs to take home ... or were they scoffed on the train?
ReplyDeleteI’ve never eaten it before, and I liked it
DeleteSounds like a wonderful getaway!
ReplyDeleteA nice break and one that underlines that you have to make nice things happen
DeleteThat sounds a lovely treat. I love kedgeree, but have never tasted a 'posh' restaurant version.
ReplyDeleteProbably tastes the same As homemade
DeleteHow marvelous to see Nu and to meet Steve! The short time in London was certainly well spent, the memorial service, meeting several friends, good food, and two bookshops. Bliss!
ReplyDeleteHope the trip home is pleasant and that you find a message waiting for you that your chimney will be fixed this week. Fingers crossed!
Hugs!
Train delayed ,,,,,hey ho
DeleteBother! Hope you've got a good book to read unless you prefer people watching like my mother did.
DeleteHugs!
I watched tictoc vids x
DeleteYou've had a very enjoyable London holiday!
ReplyDeleteA busy 26 hours indeed lol
DeleteI got a short e-mail from Steve today telling me that he'd met you. The words "warm, engaging and genuine" were thrown about. It made my heart so happy to think of you two having a chat! I feel like Steve is my brother.
ReplyDeleteWe talked about you in the same vein xx
DeleteSounds as though you are living up to the gay stereotype of being a bit of a slag
ReplyDeleteYou sound better for that mini holiday.
ReplyDeleteYes, I do feel better for the change of scene
ReplyDeleteI've been good and I've been bad-and it's the latter I never regret x
ReplyDeleteIt's been a long time since I popped in so Happy New Year to you. I'm hoping to get back into a regular habit of keeping up with my favourite blogs now that I and my husband are almost fully recovered from the after affects of Covid at last. Your kedgeree breakfast sounds delicious and the restaurant looks lovely. Many years ago, when my children were little and we lived in Wembley, we visited F&N as a treat when we had to go into town. They're in their 50s now and don't remember it at all. Enjoy your time in London. x
ReplyDeleteWelcome back Elizabeth x
DeleteSounds like you had a blast. I am so glad for you.
ReplyDeleteJo in Auckland

ReplyDeleteI’m back down in March to see Cabaret with Nu

Ratty - weren't you in "The Wind in the Willows"?
DeleteBreakfast at Selfridges is very good for another visit.
ReplyDeleteOh, lucky you. I wish I could meet up with Steve. And you seem to have an extra-affinity for eggs!
ReplyDeleteIt definitely underlines that sometimes you just" have to make nice things happen." A great break with friends and a change from routines.
ReplyDeleteWhat a super break. Makes the hard work worthwhile. How did Dorothy cope with you away? Kedgeree at a posh restaurant and then decadent Scotch eggs will see the hangover off with no trouble! There's a restaurant in Wellington that does The Most Divine fish Kedgeree that I have every time I go there (once a year!!) glad you had a catch up with Nu, and met a new friend.
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly, neither you nor Steve have posted a picture of this famous meeting. As the explorer Stanley might have said, " Dr Reed I presume?" Did you know he had a pack of "Name that Bumhole" cards about his person?
ReplyDeleteThe eggs look delightful. Here in Columbus there is an Irish pub that serves that type of appetizer. I always get them when I am there.
ReplyDeleteGreat that you were able to meet up with Steve. And if Scotch eggs were purchased soon after...well, a banner day.
ReplyDeleteI really appreciate your professional approach. These are pieces of very useful information that will be of great use for me in future.
