London II

Slightly hungover this morning.
So after an extra long hot shower, I ambled in the rain and the deserted London streets across Chinatown, down to Piccadilly.
Fortum&Mason’s restaurant 45 Jermyn Street is a very elegant place indeed and Nu was sitting waiting for me when I got there.
It was lovely to catch up in person and I felt very decadent eating kedgeree and sipping very strong coffee in one of the red leather booths.

Following breakfast, I left Nu to go to Pilates and did some book shopping, before hiding in from the rain in a coffee shop before meeting Steve from https://shadowsteve.blogspot.com/
Who was charming and funny and allowed me to monopolise the conversation with typical Southern politeness.

On the way home x
( I treated myself to two F&M scotch eggs for tea………bloody nectar truffle scotch eggs 19£ for four)

    1. That figures. I once spent £5 on 100 gms of very ordinary jelly babies there. The bag was worth more than the contents.

  2. Fortnum and Mason is my favourite shop. We visit once a year in the autumn and it's always a treat. You didn't pop in for their scotch eggs?

  6. Sounds like great fun! I am happy to hear that you got to meet up with Steve! For some reason, I love it when my blogging friends can get together. Then I get to read about it twice! Glad you enjoyed your getaway!

How marvelous to see Nu and to meet Steve! The short time in London was certainly well spent, the memorial service, meeting several friends, good food, and two bookshops. Bliss!
Hope the trip home is pleasant and that you find a message waiting for you that your chimney will be fixed this week. Fingers crossed!

    Hugs!

  13. I got a short e-mail from Steve today telling me that he'd met you. The words "warm, engaging and genuine" were thrown about. It made my heart so happy to think of you two having a chat! I feel like Steve is my brother.

  18. It's been a long time since I popped in so Happy New Year to you. I'm hoping to get back into a regular habit of keeping up with my favourite blogs now that I and my husband are almost fully recovered from the after affects of Covid at last. Your kedgeree breakfast sounds delicious and the restaurant looks lovely. Many years ago, when my children were little and we lived in Wembley, we visited F&N as a treat when we had to go into town. They're in their 50s now and don't remember it at all. Enjoy your time in London. x

  27. What a super break. Makes the hard work worthwhile. How did Dorothy cope with you away? Kedgeree at a posh restaurant and then decadent Scotch eggs will see the hangover off with no trouble! There's a restaurant in Wellington that does The Most Divine fish Kedgeree that I have every time I go there (once a year!!) glad you had a catch up with Nu, and met a new friend.

  28. Surprisingly, neither you nor Steve have posted a picture of this famous meeting. As the explorer Stanley might have said, " Dr Reed I presume?" Did you know he had a pack of "Name that Bumhole" cards about his person?

  29. The eggs look delightful. Here in Columbus there is an Irish pub that serves that type of appetizer. I always get them when I am there.

  30. Great that you were able to meet up with Steve. And if Scotch eggs were purchased soon after...well, a banner day.
