Letters after Your Name

 I slept from 9 until 1.
Then a combination of bright sunshine through a chink in the curtains and bulldog restlessness woke me up, forcing me to take the dogs into the garden.
I spoke to Heulwen and Derek , Wendy and Mr B all enjoying the sun in the Lane
I could tell Mr B was reading the words on my T shirt.
It was a Christmas gift from my nephew

The Queen’s New Year honours list was out last night.with Chris Whitty,Dame Jenny Harris, Joanna Lumley, Daniel Craig
Film director Paul Greengrass, Vanessa Redgrave and bloody Tony Blair amongst the recipients.
For those who scoured the list of awardees, you may of overlooked one name Tim Walkden Williams who as it turns out is my brother in law.
He is now an M.B.E !
How good is that ?

Back to bed xx

  2. Congratulations to your Brother in law-thought I recognised him-possibly on a previous photo of yours-that is a great t shirt from your Nephew-spot on-And you never guess what but a couple of years ago I called across a hillside to another dog walker that even though my lily was muzzled it was only to stop her eating poo-she walked up to me with her 2 and we chatted-After parting I searched my brain as I thought her familiar-I then was pleased to realise it was Vannesa Redgrave and she was Lovely x

When you read of someone being awarded an MBE for opening a clothes shop and organising a car rally it makes you realise just why so many people turn down the awards.

    1. Do not assume anything. It is very sad that you cannot be happy for other people's success. Something wanting in you maybe!

    2. Tim organised a car show that brought thousands of people to a town centre that was failing. The car show grew each year, shutting down the roads and boosting every small buisbess in the town. He was also responsible for two of the most popular bespoke shops in town, for supporting every other buisness by being an active member of the buisness association for decades and for helping run the towns flower show which also transformed the morale and buisness successes of the town and which earned my sister a British Empire medal.
I hope this counters the snide comment which is aimed at me.

You are a sad excuse of a human being for being so cheaply snide, once again you show your true colors
      I detest you

  6. What a nice tradition of recognizing people for accomplishments and contributions to their community. The classic car shows not only provide a community event, they are often a major charity fundraiser, making a difference for members of the community.

    1. I like the New Years honours as the ordinary nominees are nominated by the community from which they live.
I guess there is always some nepotism between govt and some aware recipients

  7. Love the T-shirt! How nice it is that people are getting awarded for actually achieving something, rather than knowing someone. Congratulations to BIL Timothy. Will you have to tug your forelock when you meet him? lol xx

Well, how about that! Congratulations to your BIL and to you, by extension. :)
Your nephew did well in choosing such a splendid tee shirt.
You've inspired me by your comment of 'starting the year as you mean to go on.' For me, that will mean more sewing time and, sadly, no trips to London.

    Hugs!

    1. Several people refuse their award for various reasons, believing that they don't justify such an award is one reason. For instance an actor who says they are just doing their job and that awards should go to those who actually did worthwhile things. Some have refused the British Empire award as "Empire" is an outdated term that smacks of slavery.

    2. Liz, many people receive their awards for acts that they do not make public. Sometimes you don't see the bigger picture.
The Empire is long gone, having abolished slavery along the way.

    3. Now, now, Cro. Far be it from me to offer any view on British politics. Not least because I don't have one. However, you appear to be falling into the same trap with Blair as a lot of people did, and do, with Thatcher. Both had their merits - of that there is no doubt.

As it happens, oh the coincidence, I watched "The Queen" (with Helen Mirren) only yesterday. It largely revolves around Philip's little cabbage (chou) and her Prime Minister at the time of the death of the People's Princess. No need to groan, Cro. I know your views on Diana. Remember, she was human too. Anyway, one thing the film reminded me of was how Blair so perfectly gauged the public mood; admittedly, ably assisted by Alastair Campbell - my god if ever you want a PR genius (arch manipulator) on your team do look no further. Essentially Blair helped the Queen out of a hole she hadn't dug herself just sat in.

    4. The awards are a recognition of a force for good.
Refusing one , with Grace , is up to the recipient
Receiving one in my view is a great honour for you are nominated by people in your own community

    5. My late Father-in-Law received his gong for hard work, less than generous salary, and having to deal with the likes of Stalin. He was never responsible for the deaths of millions; as was Blair. It makes a mockery of it all.

It's lovely when a friend or relative is rewarded in this way. My next-door neighbour of 20 or so years ago was given an MBE for her considerable, and very individual efforts, in her scientific specialism. She was dead chuffed!

  21. Wow! That's amazing! To say you even KNOW an MBE, much less are related to one, is pretty remarkable.

I was happy about Joanna Lumley and Vanessa Redgrave. Tony Blair, not so much, although I do believe George W. Bush and Dick Cheney are largely to blame for arm-twisting him into the Iraq war.

  22. That T-shirt is super! Clever nephew! And your BIL's MBE is a perfect example of why Honours should not be abolished. What a huge contributor to his community he's made - helping keep a village vibrant is an amazing achievement. "anon" clearly needs to get some therapy - and in the meantime keep their vitriol to themselves.

    1. There’s been too much criticism here. At the moment , not so much with me ( that’s par for the course) but for each others’ comments. That upsetting and sad

    2. Congratulations to your brother in law, it's good to see an award going to someone who truly deserves it.
Regarding the criticism for others' comments it's very noticeable there is one named commenter who leaves several comments on every post and who is quick to criticise others. Perhaps there would be less unwanted comments if they weren't goaded by the prolific commenter.
I saw that someone admiring your BIL's hair was criticised by that prolific commenter which of course prompted a critical reply. (comments now deleted)
Reading the comments on a blog is enjoyable until you get someone spoiling it for everybody. Hats off to you for writing a blog and coping with the comments!
Happy New Year, we'll all hope for a better year.
