Yes, a short, sweet and direct question. He's either stupid, ignorant or a liar. In my opinion, all 3. Sadly, though, I think he'll wriggle out of it, again. xx
Boris is a proven liar, and is totally out of order with the way he and his cronies behaved during lockdown. However, it's not in any way as bad as inciting people to riot at the Capitol Building! Boris is full of himself, whereas Trump is certifiably insane!
They both belong in jail forever with their estates given to the repay and repair all they ruined. Hope the countries can recover from their mishandling.
He was a known liar before he became the PM having lost jobs because of it. However, it seems that it might be easier to nail jelly to the wall than get rid of him....I live in hope though. Arilx
Theresa May, who wasn't up to the job, has been sharpening her stiletto for Johnson for some time. Whilst servings of cake and garden parties are all 'a Twitter', it seems to have escaped people's notice that Vladimir Putin is about to attempt a reordering of the post-Cold War world. The West lacks credible leaders and Putin must be laughing his socks off at the cake-fest in Westminster. Johnson, who seems to think he is somehow Churchillian, will leave before his due time, but who is there to replace him? Sunak or Truss? One a billionaire and the other who thinks she's Maggie T reincarnate. And on the Labour side you can forget lightweight Kier Starmer who would be making the case for a rerun of the Brexit referendum as soon as he could. The North knows this. Dan Jarvis is a good northern MP who would make a credible Labour PM, but until then I fear we are left with poor choices on both sides of the House. 'The world is going to hell in a handcart' is the expression that seems to be more than apt at this moment. Hey ho...
I don't trust anyone in Parliament, it doesn't matter what colour of their tie. Fittingly it was the anniversary today of Guy Fawkes execution and also Oliver Cromwell's 'execution'. I have compassion for both of them and hope that we finally get some proper politicians.
A "smooth talker"? You could have fooled me. Never have I heard a person say so little with so much stutter, bluster, hot air. It's an affectation. Alas not an effective one, and for the listener an exhausting. If I were Rachel (his sister) I'd die a little death every time my brother opens his mouth in Parliament.
Ursula, Do you have a blog? A blog devoted to debate would provide stimulating exchanges and as administrator/moderator you'd oversee/guide the dialog. It would be key to attract diverse thinkers. Let us know your thinking on a specialized blog.
I did exactly as he said I should and have become more neurotic than I was previously-my dogs have suffered too-even so I am ashamed to say I still find him charming x
Yes, Rome is burning. However, where is the fire brigade? The fire brigade that only Johnson's own party (and, of course, voters) can provide this minute? Credit where it's due - nothing to do with one's political leanings. Starmer was stellar yesterday. One man, plus Lucas, Theresa May, Davis, indeed the admirable Ian Blackburn, can't extinguish the fire when everyone else is just pissing in the wind.
MrsL, yes, I do. Still, with all the fire mentioned, I may be forgiven to rename Blackford as Blackburn. He most certainly will have singed a few feathers. Bit disappointing that the press hasn't made more of his stand and its consequences. Well, the press that I read.
Rachel, re May: There is lying and there is lying. Sure, at times we all bend the truth here and there - often not even for our benefit but to save someone else's skin.
Johnson reminds me of one of my sisters. She was only little. In the face of obvious fact (literally, as my mother's lipstick was smeared all over her face) she looked my mother in the eye and denied all. It was as astonishing as it was tragic. Obviously, in a child you wouldn't call that "lying" exactly. What would you call it? Denial? What my sister learnt that day, a lesson clearly having by-passed Johnson, that denial doesn't fly.
"Taken over", Rachel? And what do you mean by "delay"?
Anyway, appears we are back to the old conversation what purpose a blog serves. As John said a day or so ago, for him his blog is part journal. But he also, clearly, seeks interaction with others. So I communicate - with him, with some of his readers if what they say piques my interest.
Is there a word count? If so - what is it? And even if there is, am I to abide to the "rules"? Ask Johnson, role model that he is. I don't get you on this one, Rachel. You are a one liner, not to say, occasionally, a hardliner. I am expansive, giving freely, not least my time and thought. Surely, there is enough space (even in a comment box) for both.
My point to John was that Theresa May did not know the meaning of integrity when she was in office, I have mot read what you wrote except your first sentence when it was obvious to most I guess that I meant day.
Time traveller, UK Musing, boris. She was indeed and many in the country named her too but really all I looked at was John's heading and the post and I thought his choice of wording rather ironic.
I’ve always felt that Theresa May is a politician with integrity . Ok I did not always agree with her when she was Home Secretary But I think her heart has always been in the Country’s best interest
If ever there was a case of 'Sorry' meaning "Sorry I've been found out!' this was it. And after that initial cursory first sentence, from then on it was all about 'WE' will take corrective action, WE will do what we have to, WE will look in the mirror - no more acknowledgment that HE was the one more at fault than anyone else. The man's a fool, and if HE can't change that no one can!
I am commenting again on John's invitation. We made our peace. Something that can't be said of the Middle East. And swathes of blogland.
That you want to imprison me (on what grounds? Free speech? Verbosity? Getting on your nerves?) speaks not so much volumes as of limitation (yours). I'll keep it "nice" as I know John prefers to keep the peace. However, and that goes to Anon too (and don't think I don't know your identity; not to worry, I'll keep it to myself), if I said how I really see both your comments it would make much much more amusing reading.
A Smaller Life, Forum - "a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged". That's great, isn't it? Please do read it again ". . . can be exchanged."
What better compliment to pay a blogger than to be interested in what they (and their readers) have to say. There are blogs out there which are so uninspiring, so dead end, so vapid, even I find it difficult to say anything - of any interest.
In the end, as has so often been pointed out, it's John's blog. And trust me, ASL, he'll tell me when to put a sock in.
Oh lord….a whole 15 hours away and such a lot has happened here… I haven’t read all. The comments as yet but will do so later after I write today’s blog I think May had her faults but , for me, she had and has integrity and that’s what Boris Johnson has not. Hey ho
I think the person who comments under a whole series of new names and pseudonyms should review why they comment anonymously It’s cowardly and unfair to do so You should be ashamed of yourself
Am I a bit thick that I don't grasp that one person is commenting multiple times??? I obviously don't get the nuances that point to it being the same person. All I can say is they must lead an exhausting life... jeez why bother ... I love your blog John but sometimes I cannot reply... my life is too busy with other things, generally shift based work, but I always always read the blog and the comments.
Yes, a short, sweet and direct question. He's either stupid, ignorant or a liar. In my opinion, all 3. Sadly, though, I think he'll wriggle out of it, again. xx
ReplyDeleteYes! I think she said what we all think. I believe Mr. Johnson's actions are indefensible.
ReplyDeleteShe kept it simple
DeleteYes, she kept it simple and that was what made it all the more powerful.
Deletei hope that boris is at least in more trouble than trump. i don't get how this jerk is still walking a free man.
ReplyDeleteBoris is a proven liar, and is totally out of order with the way he and his cronies behaved during lockdown.

Thank you!! Trump is totally nuts!!
DeleteYes he is, and it is frightening how so many simply do not see that.
DeleteThey both belong in jail forever with their estates given to the repay and repair all they ruined. Hope the countries can recover from their mishandling.
DeleteBoris is a blustery liar but I do think he's at least intelligent. Trump is just a manipulative, cheating blowhard, and not very smart to boot.
DeleteYes, we all have Trumps number. Boris is just a buffoon, Trump is a dangerous megalomaniac.
DeleteHe was a known liar before he became the PM having lost jobs because of it. However, it seems that it might be easier to nail jelly to the wall than get rid of him....I live in hope though. Arilx
ReplyDeleteWe saw that..and agreed with her.
ReplyDeleteIain Blackford said what everyone is thinking, knowing that he would have to leave the room.
But will it be enough to give BoJo a bounce?

ReplyDeleteYes, there is a certain amount of Schadenfreude going on
DeleteShe spoke with dignity and said what most of us are thinking.
ReplyDeleteI think you have captured things for me pat
DeleteMay for all of her faults has dignity
I don't trust anyone in Parliament, it doesn't matter what colour of their tie. Fittingly it was the anniversary today of Guy Fawkes execution and also Oliver Cromwell's 'execution'. I have compassion for both of them and hope that we finally get some proper politicians.
ReplyDeleteProper politicians yes, Fawkes yes. Cromwell no. He turned out to be zealot and a butcher. His posthumous execution was a little bizarre.
DeleteJohnson and his sycophants must go
DeleteIntegrity needs to be brought back into politics
She was a poor prime-minister but she had dignity and she did her homework - unlike the egotistical buffoon who now sits on the hot seat.
ReplyDeleteI don’t think she was poor , everything was ill timed for me me thinks
DeleteBJ is a smooth talker, even under fire. His demands are: "Do as I state, not as I do." The old double standard lives on.
ReplyDeleteA "smooth talker"? You could have fooled me. Never have I heard a person say so little with so much stutter, bluster, hot air. It's an affectation. I think his slurs against starmer relating to Jimmy saville was unforgivable

ReplyDeleteStill clinging on

ReplyDeleteWhen is the next election?
ReplyDeletegood for her!
ReplyDeleteI will be interested if honor/integrity and truth win out.
Well crafted, succinct, made the point and sat down. She wasn't my cup of tea, but that was impressive.
ReplyDeleteI fear Starmer whistles, whilst Rome is burning.
ReplyDeleteYes, Rome is burning. However, where is the fire brigade? The fire brigade that only Johnson's own party (and, of course, voters) can provide this minute? I doubt David Davis agrees and many others. May was considered a liar by the Party.

Late to the party …this is why I keep blogs to the mundane nature of my life
DeleteI think John Major was probably the one with the most integrity.
DeleteFir my shame I don’t know much about his time as PM
DeleteTony Blair was a liar too, but his lies had much more of an impact on the country. Boris will be remembered for his schoolboy's lies.

DeleteAt least everyone can speak or write all the above without fear of imprisonment.

I think May had her faults but , for me, she had and has integrity and that’s what Boris Johnson has not.
Hey ho
I think May got completely overwhelmed and overtaken with Brexit, who knows without that she might have done a better stint as our leader.
DeleteShe definintely had integrity and could lead her party.
I think the person who comments under a whole series of new names and pseudonyms should review why they comment anonymously
