Before the cinema, I met a friend for lunch.
On the Promenade, I photographed some of the public art work that is dotted around and mused just how much these little pieces enhance the spaces we inhabit.
We often take them for granted which is sad
The relaxing bowmen in Rhuddlan
The giant otter, in the flooded River Elwy in St Asaph
The metal holiday makers Colwyn Bay
Beautiful blog

DeleteI agree, public art is a bright spot in any city!
ReplyDeleteI do miss the sculpture park near Wakefield , used to go all of the time
Deletewonderful! i love the otter.
ReplyDeleteYes it shows how high the water was at that time ,usually you can see the whole animal
DeleteLovely and wonderfully varied!
ReplyDeleteHugs!
Different x
DeleteI love public art. Little visual surprises definitely enliven our lives.
ReplyDeleteI like that , surprises…yes
DeleteI love the otter too-as a teenager I was bitten by one -my own fault-Today I happened to spot a little toad(perhaps a frog)who had looked lifeless-I couldn't leave it there so took it to the stream-I do hope it will be just fine x
ReplyDeleteLol, trust you
DeleteWish we had more of that around here. I’ll trade you our holiday makers for the ones in Colwyn Bay.
ReplyDeleteThey don’t create much noise
DeleteHahaha, I see Rahana Ratana Rajana is commenting. On the art, I like the bowman.
ReplyDeleteThey overlook a medieval castle
DeleteThere's something about coming across art work in odd places. Puts a smile on my face. I live not too far from Anthony Gormley's "Another Place". I wonder if anyone has dressed one of the men in a Santa suit yet? xx
ReplyDeleteHe is one of my favourites
DeleteHis terracotta people
Field is my favourite

Love the birds at the start of the post. What are they made of? Least liked, the creepy people on the beach...
ReplyDeleteRecycled plastic i think
DeleteSimilar sheet metal silhouette figures can be seen all over the kingdom - often at war memorials. Personally, I am not fond of them. I prefer the giant otter in the River Elway.
ReplyDeleteThe birds are recycled plastic I think YP
DeleteYes, it's art.
ReplyDeleteXx
DeleteI like the metal holiday makers. I agree, public art works are fun and usually taken for granted (unless they're enormous and unmissable).
ReplyDeleteI love murals too , wish we had more of them
DeleteYes, it is art with a laugh.
ReplyDeleteThe best kind
DeleteI prefer public art to be in sympathy with its surroundings. Your examples fit the bill.
ReplyDeleteYes I think they do
DeleteI like the giant otter and the bowmen, the rest will soon hopefully rust away...well art is subjective after all I am told..
ReplyDeleteBut you are a woodsman as I remember
DeleteThe relaxing Bowman fascinates me. My favorite is the otter!
ReplyDeleteThey are overlooking a medieval castle JM
DeleteI love the artwork you have photograohed? Did you watch the Grayson Perry Art programme about the art exhibition he has put on in Liverpool?
ReplyDeleteNo but a few years ago I saw his exhibition in Margate’s Turner gallery and loved it
DeleteIt's definitely art and I couldn't choose a favourite
ReplyDeleteOh go on x
DeleteYes, it is art and I love to find public art! Thanks for sharing these, John. xx
ReplyDeleteWelcome xx
DeleteI like public art and feel it enhances outdoor spaces. I actually prefer this to graffiti. Near me, the DeCordova Museum, Lincoln, MA has art in the park. Large pieces are set around the grounds of the museum which overlooks a pond. The pieces change regularly so you never know what you are going to see. It would be even better if this was a public park and free of charge.
ReplyDeletePs please-my man came today-he shoved a huge rod up my chimney-popped out the top-I do hope your Chimney sweep will soon visit your cottage too John-I shall sleep well tonight-it has been of concern to me x
ReplyDeleteHi, I really enjoyed reading your post, and hope to read more. thank you so much for sharing this informative blog.

ReplyDeleteI particularly like the 'holiday makers', I have neighbours in France who make similar wild animals; they are superb.
ReplyDeleteI love public art.
ReplyDeleteSomething to make you think, something to make you smile!
I love the kind of art that just lives with us, outside the gallery or museum. Thanks for posting these!
