Dune was an unexpected gem yesterday.
Usually I’m not a syfy fan, but this incredibly authentic, almost medieval romp is a feast for the senses as everything about it impressive and incredibly entertaining.
Rebecca Ferguson
Jason Momoa
The lovely Oscar Isaac
The casting of sexy, hirsute DILFs in the supporting roles was ( for me) a stroke of genius as I loved Oscar Isaac, jason Momoa, Josh Brolin and Javier Bardem just to look at, but they and the likes of Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Rampling and Zendaya gave the whole film a gravitas already outlined by the quality cinematography and beautiful design.
Timothée Chalamet ( not an actor I’ve rated before ) has incredible presence and charisma in the lead
role and although, sometimes I didn’t quite know who was who, I loved this romp with its old fashioned adventure feel.
After the movie, I just had time to walk the dogs before I went out again
This time to choir, which has returned to Tuesday nights in my world.
I last sang indoors just before the first lockdown and it was lovely to be back
We sang a new song called This Winter
I shed a small tear behind my mask as we “got” the harmonies
It was like coming home
Just got home from seeing Dune. I was impressed.
ReplyDeleteWe watched it this past weekend when we got back from the farm. It was just beautiful in every possible way. The sets, the actors, the costumes, the makeup, the score, the cinematography. It's everything a movie should be.
ReplyDeleteI should say that they hooked me as someone who never finished the book because I got lost. Someone who thought the 1984 film was too frenetic and I didn't understand it. Someone who never made it past the first episode of the 2000 miniseries because it was just plain bad.
This someone was invested in every moment of this version and I can't WAIT for more.
Side note, breaking news from stateside here, a few hours ago they announced that Part 2 has been green lit by the studio, coming October 2023.
Listened to "May we come in?" - lovely harmonies just right for starting back together - no wonder you teared-up!
ReplyDeleteI like the song. A good choice for your band of merry men and women. Perhaps you'll put-up a video of your version!
ReplyDeleteI have read many of the books and saw the Dune movies.
ReplyDeleteThis does look wonderful from the photos.
Am looking forward to seeing "Dune" even more after reading your review. So often the films of books like this can disappoint.
ReplyDeleteChoir sounds a welcome return for your wellbeing.
Sounds like life is returning to normal. I'm glad you enjoyed the film. So did I.
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm getting so old - had to Google DILF. Have to agree, there's something about a man with a beard! I'm glad you've finally got back to choir. I expect yours weren't the only teary eyes there. xx
ReplyDeleteWoW what a haunting song.
ReplyDeleteEnchantingly beautiful song John.
ReplyDeleteI know it's a very unfashionable thing to say, but I actually like David Lynch's original version of Dune.
ReplyDeleteYou liked Dune? I am not saying I hated it. I just don't feel like I needed to go to the theatre to see it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a terrific song! And so appropriate for the times!
ReplyDeleteDune was a surprise for me, too. The photography, art direction and costumes are outstanding. And the storytelling is great. Loved all the DILFS, too! Yum, Momoa. And Isaac naked at the end of that table? Even about to die those men are hot.
ReplyDeleteChalamet was a surprise, even though I liked him in CBYN. Can't wait for the next installment.
XOXO
Glad you had such an enjoyable day!
ReplyDeleteYou've made me want to see the new Dune - ta!
ReplyDeleteWhat a glorious song and the harmonies are ethereal. Am glad the choir has started off with this song. I imagine yours wasn't the only tear shed at choir. As my Grandma Hall used to say, "Tears show clear what the heart holds dear."
Hope today is a delight.
Hugs!
I read all the Dune books ... oh, so many years ago! I haven't seen the movies and probably won't!!
ReplyDeleteThat song really is beautiful!!
I'm looking forward to an outing at the theatre to see Dune. I haven't been to a movie theatre in a long time. Dune seems like the perfect movie to watch on the big screen.
ReplyDeleteSlowly the new normal arrives
ReplyDeletePerfect song for your choir! It gave me a little tear, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful song. Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteYou brought tears to my eyes.
ReplyDeleteLovely song for the times would love to hear your choir sing it, I'm hoping some of our local choirs will perform this Christmas always a highlight for me each year.
ReplyDelete"The Winter" is a song with lots of shared yearnings and hopes. The choir did a heartfelt performance and the harmonizing was outstanding. Dune sounds excellent. I'll look for it here.
