Feather Boas, Welsh Terrier Sex and Trefor’s Two Mile Hike

It’s been a funny old day all told.
I went to a funeral this afternoon where all the pall bearers ( male and female ) were wearing fluffy pink boas
The coffin was carried out of the church to the graveside to the tune of  Big Spender By Shirley Bassey
It really suited the character of the guy who had died so that was cool .
During the service my colleague , who must have thought I needed a tissue delved into her handbag and offered me a sanitary pad, which flummoxed me just a little.
What would Thora Hird do in such a situation ? I thought quickly
And didn’t burst into my usual go to of schoolboy chuckling

Yes it’s been a funny afternoon all told.

I’ve just been talking to my neighbour old Trefor , who was out for his daily walk.
He’s 97 so “ old” seems somewhat of an understatement , but he’s still going strong and had just walked 2 miles up and around the Gop without stopping.
As we chatted over the garden gate another villager passed and stopped his car. He has a welsh terrier and after the hellos were done and on the spur of the moment I asked if he would be interested in introducing his young male to Mary next time she was in season . He said he would especially as your average Welsh terrier now costs up to and beyond two grand.

I’m quite giddy at the thought of puppies in the cottage.

  1. How old is Mary? From what you've said before I thought she wasn't a youngster now.

    1. I wonder if you've asked your vet for advice John? He could advise on what would be best for your dog at this time of her life.
We breed and train Labradors (gun dogs) and wouldn't use a bitch older than four and a half, five would be the absolute limit and then definitely not if a first litter, the risks are just not worth it. Even without problems a birth for a healthy bitch can be very taxing and leave her run down afterwards. You would also run the risk of Mary needing a C section. I honestly wouldn't want to risk losing one of my girls.
But I'm sure your vet will give good advice.

I've just retired two of my girls both aged 4.

    1. If she has just three puppies I will keep one, the dog’s owner will take one and I will give Trendy Carol one
But I’m not counting on anything

  3. Love the idea of the pink feather boas. I'm guessing the pallbearers weren't doing chorus line kicks...
Good for Trefor. I should be more like that 97 year old.
Puppies? Too much work but a lot of fun.

  4. Welsh terrier pups must be so cute John-my thatch has been done and the lady who worked at a vets still thinks he may be one-he was a year old when he moved in so I never saw him as a baby puppy-apparently he lived outside with a lot of other dogs-possibly a puppy farm x

    1. They are a delight….but the most cute puppies are Scottish terriers which act like wind up toys on acid

What a funny day, indeed! Do you have a pink boa if another occasion arises?
I take my hat off to Trevor and, I, too, hope to be in such good shape 27 years from now.
You'll certainly have to take leave from work to handle a houseful of puppies. Won't you have a ton of photos to post then?!!

    Hugs!

  6. A good way to celebrate the deceased! A fun funeral sounds better than a drab one! I won't have any funeral as I don't want the bother or the cost for my kids. I will just be gone!
Puppies! I don't know how you would manage all of that with your work schedule! But have a good try if you want! (or if Mary wants)!

  7. A strange day indeed. Did you wipe your eyes on said sanitary towel? 2 miles up and down a hill at 97, that's going some. I hope, if I get to that age, I can still manage to walk at all. Go Trefor! xx

  9. Pink feather boas, Shirley Bassey, puppies, sanitary pads being given instead of tissues and 97 year olds still going strong.... Bloody Marvelous ! X

  10. I love irreverent funerals like that. And as for the sanitary pad . . . well, that just kind of fit right in, didn't it? I hoped you mopped your eyes with it conspicuously!

And puppies! That will be exciting!

  12. Pink feather boas are a lovely idea for a funeral. All of the attendees could have worn them, too. Mary might not like that fellow or could have a headache every time he wants to have sex.

    Love,

Puppies!!!! Do it DO it DO IT! I have 4 rescues and the last one was a puppy that I got at 6 weeks old. The first 2 months were tiring but now he is a total joy both to me 2 of my other dogs... the old guy is kind of "meh" about him. But you will not regret it.
My dogs save my life every day. They bring joy and you can always do with more joy John. DO IT!!

  23. It seems strange to say a fun funeral but I think that was the intent one for the memory book for sure. I hope Mary has a litter she would make a great mum.

  24. The funeral sounds like a very upbeat gathering. The boas must have surprised people and made everyone smile. When can you expect Mary's puppies to arrive? Placing each puppy nearby sounds perfect. Adding a puppy to your family will be great.

  26. Christ! Two thousand pounds for a Welsh terrier puppy! The sooner you get Mary churning them out the better.

  27. Plan ahead, the vet will cost quite a lot, prenatal care, delivery, care for the puppies, vaccines and worming. And I suppose to get the big bucks for these puppies they will need UK Kennel Club papers from both parents, plus fees to register the puppies.
I don't think dogs have some strong maternal instinct to be fulfilled---plus Mary is not a young dog anymore, is she? 5?
I know you are a responsible dog owner, I am sure you have considered all the details.

    1. Our dachshund, who was never spayed and never bred, every so often would go into a false pregnancy/parenting mode and decide that the hot water bottle was her baby. Defended it with growls and nips. It probably depends on the dog/breed.

  35. Mary would make a wonderful Mum, and 6 years old is a good age for her to have a litter. Our Border Collie was still desperate to have pups at 12, she was a brazen hussy every time she came into season as she had a maternal instinct that had never been fulfilled. Thank goodness we lived in the middle of nowhere!!
