God it’s hot
I’ve just joined all of UK social media by mentioning this
I can complain a bit because I’ve just done 12.5 hours in PPE
I SMELL like a sumo’s nappy.
Thank you to manager Emma who arranged for some Italian ice cream to be dropped off for staff and patients xx it was bliss
It was 9.30 pm when I sat down after work, the dogs are panting in the 21 degree evening heat
The house is ready for Ruth to take over tomorrow when I’m off to London
This is my friend Ruth
A lifesaver, my dog baby sitter , hospice nurse extraordinaire, mindfulness advocate and loyal friend
I love this photo of her and mary
Good grief - 12.5 hours in PPE in tbis sticky heat! I gave up acute care a while ago - I cannot imagine wearing a mask for 12 hours, let alone full PPE. You all deserved medals with your ice cream. Good that Ruth is dogsitting for you - enjoy your London jaunt. Humid there - weather due to break at w/e, so hopefully a return to 'normal' temperatures!
ReplyDeleteThanks P xx
DeleteThank heavens for good people like Ruth. I hope you will bring her a souvenir from London - perhaps a beefeater money box or a a Queen Elizabeth II mug.
ReplyDeleteI bought her a bottle of red wine ( vintage) and a sticky toffee pudding
DeleteIt's nice to be appreciated.
DeleteMary loves her Aunty Ruth doesn't she John-and you'll soon be as fresh as a daisy for your jaunt to London-I use cold wet towels on my lily who seems to be affected most-and my thatch is coping fairly well thankfully x
ReplyDeleteYou have some wonderful friends. There is mutual love in that photo. I honestly don't know how you cope in this heat with full PPE. I'm wilting in shorts and sleeveless top! I was going to say you all deserve a medal, but I think recognition via a decent pay rise would be more in order. Enjoy your trip to London. xx
ReplyDeleteI’m lucky with my friends
DeleteI surround myself with nice people
Nice people are drawn to you because you are nice and kind. God, that sounds so sickly, but well meant! xx
Deleteyou are so lucky to have a friend like ruth. thee are few people i would trust to watch my bebe's. have a fun weekend!
ReplyDeleteAmen x
DeleteAwww, to have someone to love your fur kids while you're gone, is priceless. It's how you can leave and enjoy yourself knowing that they are well loved and well cared for! We, too, have a dear friend who cat sits for us. She was sitting for us a few years ago when a tornado roared through our subdivision at 10 at night, and she walked over in the total dark, through water and debris (she lives close) to check on our cats. We can never repay her for this.
ReplyDeleteAm I missing something about your part of the world? Do most of you not have air conditioning at home and/or your work places? And, or, it doesn't get this hot usually? Lordy. It seems that this type of heat in places where it usually isn't that hot will be the norm from here on out. We are so accustomed to WILD swings of weather here in Illinois. It can mean 50 degrees and heat on in the morning, and in the 90's and the AC on in the afternoon, and all night! It is 87 here, feels like 99 (according to the weather thingie) and is 78 percent humidity. I feel for anyone who doesn't have AC. I am so appreciative that we do. Perhaps I am spoiled as well.
Welsh homes as Uk Homes never usually need AC
DeleteYou are to be envied for having so many good friends.
ReplyDeleteShe has kind eyes.
ReplyDeleteThe sweltering heat is oppressive and in full PPE it has to be close to unbearable. With heatwaves more common everywhere, consider a Mitsubishi heat pump for cooling in the hot weather and heating in the winter. In the US, these are very popular as well as energy efficient. I recently had a few installed in my house and the cooling is excellent. The hospice building could install these too adding comfort for everyone.
ReplyDeleteMary- Awe dad you see me. Sheeesh. I don't mean it though.;)
ReplyDeleteI read Karla's comment about the heat they are having in Illinois right now, I live in Missouri, the state next door to hers, and we have the same kind of heat here. A normal pattern is for it to go into the low
ReplyDelete90's F to the mid 90's F and then we hit 99 to 100 degrees F and all hell breaks loose with thunderstorms and often tornadoes in Missouri or one of the neighboring states. It doesn't cool off at night and the humidity is miserable. For several days now our skies have been a light gray color, even though the sun is out. The smoke from all of the terrible forest fires is making it here to Missouri and I believe one day the smoke was all of the way to Boston.
I hope you don't start having heat like this in Wales where you live. It kind of wears a person down when the heat drags on too long. On the positive side, I never have very much of an appetite in the hot summer, even though we have air conditioning.
How nice to have a sweet, trusted friend to come and house and dog sit/walk/play for you. Enjoy your visit to London.
Hi, Ruth! It's lovely to meet you at last. We've heard such wonderful things about you and appreciate the kind and helpful friend you are to John, Mary, Albert, and Dorothy.
ReplyDeleteJohn, my sympathy that you had to endure that PPE for so long in such heat. Have you had your bathroom revamped yet? A cool shower would be delightful.
Have a joyous time with Nu and friends!
Hugs!
I love your odoriferous comparison to a sumo's nappy.
ReplyDeleteLove,
Janie
It's a great photo. Have a good time in the big city.
ReplyDeleteI bought Billy some dog ice cream (a tub of cheap vanilla). He absolutely loves it, and no longer pesters us for our Magnums.
ReplyDeleteYay, Ruth! It looks like she loves dogs!
ReplyDeleteHow nice to have a friend like Ruth to stay with your wonderful, furry family when you are gone. I love the picture of her and Mary. Mary always seems to be such a sweet, cuddly girl!
ReplyDeleteBlessings upon Ruth! She does look a composed, caring, competent and genuine person. I'll bet the animals adore her.
ReplyDeleteNow my suggestion for you is a long, cool bath. With a glass of something on the side., and perhaps a good book - if you're a Read In The Bath man?
Ruth is a wonderful friend.
ReplyDeleteI am not too good with this heat! A bit much if I actually want to get anything done. That image of the sumo's nappy has lodged itself in my brain for the day I fear :)
Have the best time in London!
Why do you guys still have to wear full PPE? We're down to just masks now.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time.
A friend to treasure.
ReplyDeleteLovely to meet you here on John's blog Ruth any friend of John is a good friend of all who visit here.
ReplyDeleteMary looks like she adores you, your so kind.
