Painting

I’m painting my bedroom……It hasn’t been touched for 15 years
I fucking hate painting…..but it has to be done.
Sailor John and Mandy from next door have had the right idea. They have gone off  with their canoe,
It’s hot, humid and sunny despite the forecasts.
Every time I spy a local, I’m finding myself making an excuse to go and talk.
Animal Helper Pat has not long stopped.
It’s amazing just how much you can cram into a conversation when you are stopping yourself from doing something you hate.

  1. I'm looking forward to seeing how it looks once it's done. The exterior of our house was just painted professionally- 250 man hours. High bill. The interior needs painting but we simply cannot face moving all the furniture around in order for painters to come in. At least you can handle yours and it will look great.

  2. I am not a fan of painting either, but I always do it myself. If I was there, I would help you!

  3. Did you mean that John & Mandy have gone off with their canoe? You wrote that YOU had! I guess you wouldn't have got a lot of painting done.

  5. You‘re like SG when it comes to painting. 10 minutes in and he says he’s bored and needs a snack. Sometimes he doesn’t last 10 minutes. I look forward to seeing the results... maybe next week some time?

Always better to stop for a chat before the paint is open or poured into the pan! I, too, look forward to seeing the paint color on the walls. Oh, you, too! Wink, wink, nudge, nudge

    Hugs!

  7. Painting is OK, it's the preparation you have to do first that I hate...and the cleaning up afterwards. My kitchen ceiling is going to be replastered. First I have to strip the woodchip paper. Really not looking forward to it, and desperately finding any other job which could possibly be considered more urgent!

  8. It does seem to be that you decorate one room and the whole house is a mess, because you've got to shift stuff out of the way. Just keep reminding yourself how good it'll look once it's done (and it'll be another 15 years before you need to do it again!) xx

  9. I can busy myself so much that there is somehow very little time for actual cleaning-the dogs need continual attention you see and it would be rude not to chat to other dog walkers when out who seem to want to chat more than ever x

  10. I used to do all my own painting and enjoyed it, but can't anymore with a torn right rotator cuff, plus I really am too old to be on ladders and such! So now I pay Bruce, a professional painter whom I can trust.
So my dear, stop the chattering and just get on with it - we want to see those blue walls soon please!
    Mary -
P.S. Canoeing sounds awesome on a hot day - perhaps you should go with them after the painting is done.
Don't leave the can of paint where your 4-legged 'kids' can tip it over!

  12. Really, it doesn't HAVE to be done. You have chosen to do it (or not, if you keep putting it off)! It is up to you, John.

  15. Good luck. Nothing worst than painting in the throws of humid summer. Just watch the humidity. In design schoolwe learned there is a reason many paint in winter and spring. If it's too humid and hot, when the paint dries, it can cause bubbling of the paint.

  17. I love painting! Always have. Find it therapeutic and relaxing. Go figure eh?
Remember to wait till paint dries before applying another coat especially in humid weather.
Very hot and humid here as well. Seems like the whole Northern Hemisphere is ablaze!

  23. I love your color scheme and can't wait to see it. I know painting is a pain but when you are all done and have the room back in order you will be very happy! It is the kind of work that rewards you in the end.

  24. Ha! My hubby and I own a house painting company and make a very nice living because most people hate painting! We commonly hear how the last time the homeowner painted, it was so God awful and took so long they swore next time they would hire it out. Sorry to say painting a small bedroom ceiling takes a pro less than an hour. :) BTW, here in beautiful Seattle, we are hitting over 110 degrees today! The same temp as Phoenix AZ! We are not painting today!
