The Movie In My Mind - Miss Saigon

In the early 1990s I went to see Miss Saigon
I saw it several times
Tonight I revisited it and was reminded of this song, which is one that affected me the most from the production
Lea Selonga was a revelation in the lead role but I loved the slightly shopworn character of Gigi played by Isay Alvarez. Her voice perfect for the words she sang

I saw Miss Saigon like ten years ago!
    Funny how time flies.

  2. I am not really a Musical fan John - love Opera and Ballet but have never seen shows. Maybe if I had seen one I would have changed my mind. Too late now.

  3. Oh the memories, my daughter and I had flown down to Sydney for my son's wedding week and had most of the day free before a train. She had never seen a live production and it was the only stage show that had available tickets, she loved it.

  4. Miss Saigon is the only West end show I have been to see, funnily enough in the early 90s. Three hours in a cramped seat made for dwarves put me off for life. Thank you and goodnight.

  5. This was not one of my favorite songs from the show although I did love the lyrics. Saw this on Broadway in '91 as part of our 10th anniversary weekend in NYC. Holy crap, but that was a long time ago.!

  6. I've seen quite a few of the more popular musicals (Les Mis etc) but not Miss Saigon. There is something special about Live Theatre, isn't there. Some of my favourite memories are of going to a London theatre that had been running Cats for about 20 years. The theatre itself was really run down, but must have been magnificent in its heyday. That's got to be 30 years ago - I'm getting ancient!!

  7. I saw the show back in 1989 in the initial pre-critics run, and was most impressed. Then, luckily managed to see it again a few months later, still with the original cast, incl. Jonathan Pryce and Lea Salonga. Even an unfortunate stage-equipment malfunction couldn't dent my high opinion of it, and now would love go see it again.

  8. I saw it in London in 94. They double booked out tickets but let us sit in the Royal box. Nice and roomy but not a good view of the stage.

  9. That's the one blockbuster stage musical of that era that I did NOT see, unfortunately. Saw Les Miz and Phantom though. Missed Cats too, now that I think of it.

  10. This has nothing to do with this post, but I found out that Hippo posts every once in a while again. It was nice to know he's hanging in there!
