Sunday Morning

Finally, the laburnum in the Churchyard has started to bud a hardly detectable green.
I have been worried about it not doing so.
It’s the most magnificent tree in the village.
The sun is shining but it remains cooler than you might expect and when you look at the gorse on the Gop the blooms  that looked so golden only week ago , now look more muted in their radiance.
The bachelor cockerel is crowing incessantly this morning but the breeze alters the volume of his calls from faint to bearable.
There is the noise of a tractor coming from one of the fields in the valley towards Gentleman Ralph’s farm
It’s as irritating as a lawnmower on this Sunday morning, the breeze can’t change that.
The bluebells are out, in my garden and in the corner of the churchyard where I planted them two years ago.
They are luminous.
As if powered by tiny batteries
The girls have been walking in the woods, they haven’t visited in an age.
They scampered like mice

  1. You paint a wonderful picture, John. Spring is definitely springing, just need a bit more warmth! xx

  3. I actually like the sound of a 4-stroke lawnmower (Suffolk Punch preferred) on a Sunday afternoon. It reminds me of leafy Surrey neighbourhoods in my youth.

  4. powered by little batteries is a perfect way to describe spring. it's as if someone flips a switch and everything gets a little jolt, an earthy wake up call.

  6. It seems to be a good year for Bluebells this year, and if the Laburnum is out in the church yard I think it's time you booked a slot and took Mary for a walk around Bodnant, the arch will be magnificent ... and this year I won't be able to see it :-(

  8. That trail through the woods looks like a wonderful tranquil place to walk. The bluebells are beautiful, not a flower that you see here. I wonder if we can grow them? My tulips are blooming now. Do you have those in your garden? -Jenn

What a serene word picture you've painting - aside from the lawnmower noise! Our quiet area is often disturbed by very noisy traffic and nothing can be done about that either.
I planted Bluebell seeds several years ago and not a one came up. Perhaps I should start with plants instead. Your bluebells are luminous, indeed!

    Hugs!

  12. Just had a pleasant half-hour in the greenhouse, partly potting up some marigold seedlings, partly waiting for a hail shower to pass. Sunny apart from that! That woodland walk looks nice.

  16. It would seem Spring is popping up all around the world where it's the "normal" thing to do right now! Beautiful flowers, trees greening up, warm days and warm nights, too! Don't much care for too warm nights! It's heading up to 81° F. in S. Colorado, today!
The trail in the woods looks so peaceful & quiet ... and just love seeing Dorothy's little bulldoggy butt! So cute!!!

  19. I'm encouraged that your laburnum is just now coming out. Maybe the crabapple down the street from us will similarly put out more and better leaves a bit later than usual.

  20. What a lovely description of your day! That trail in the woods looks like a wonderful place to walk. I bet the girls picked up all kinds of interesting scents there.

  21. Your bluebells are lovely but look different the ones that grow along the river in the south part of my city. Ours are Virginia bluebells.
Nice spring walk for your dogs!

  23. Love the picture of your girls walking shoulder to shoulder..rare solidarity. I love bluebells. When I lived in Hampshire in the 80's we used to regularly go to Harewood Forest to see the bluebell woods. They were magnificent.
