Theatre Again

I haven’t much spare cash.
This is merely an observation rather than a moan.
Fuck me if it was a moan the trolls out there would wet their knickers in the scrum to message what a truly awful person I am .
No, it’s a truism. I have to watch my money.
True I treat myself to the odd desk and very trendy sofa .
But generally I have to be frugal, and generally I am
I have a tv the size of large cornflakes packet, I never buy new clothes and my main extravagance is never on expensive cars, men and liquor!
But I have just bought a couple of tickets to the outside production of Pride and Prejudice in Grovensor Park in Chester.
How lovely to be sat watching a play again

    1. You're an extremely pathetic person Anonymous but then I expect you know that which is why you put up such lovely comments, it's the only way you get any attention. How sad!

    4. I think John's regular unpleasant Anonymous may be making a cry for help, perhaps unconsciously, or perhaps releasing deep seated bitterness that may even have a valid distant origin. Maybe they should try visiting my place to abuse me and leave John alone, for I have a long history of befriending troubled people, ever since I made friends, but not easily, with the boy everybody hated at primary school. He turned out well in the end. Seriously. I soon learned to accept abuse because of the friends I kept. Some people just need an alternative response to what they are expecting to turn things around. I await to be told that I am a patronising git...

  7. My hubby’s sister used to harp on him because he spent what she considered too much money. Once he took his bills to her and said, ‘you pay my bills and I’ll do things your way. Otherwise, don’t mention my spending habits again.’ She didn’t.

  19. I suspect you take care of ALL the necessities first ... house payment, utilities, groceries, various bills you might have and whatever is left over is yours to do with as you see fit!
By God ... you earned it and it is your right to spend it however you want and if you end up with empty pockets ... the only one you can blame is yourself!! Frugality is a gift!!!

  28. It is sad that you have to explain yourself and your budgeting! Due to trolls and critics.
i think it was Sue in Suffolk who made the point recently that by being frugal in some things, one can afford the things that matter and are fun. [She said it better].

You work very hard! A play sounds delightful. [what if it rains? Or is very cold tho?]

  36. P&P - oooh! One of my favourites! Anticipating a treat is half of the pleasure of it, isn’t it! Does the production include a halftime break when people have a picnic meal? A local opera group did operas in a garden like that and they were very successful.
As for how you spend your surplus cash... it’s no one’s business but yours. Mind you, some of us will make rude noises if it’s on too many speeding tickets!

  37. The big celebration here in Scotland today seems to be because hairdressers/barbers shops have reopened. Woohoo! The only significance of this for a baldy like me is I can restart enjoying all the money I save by not having any hair that needs cut, other than a self-inflicted Number 1 all over with the shaver to keep the growing remnants neat.

  38. Nothing wrong with being frugal in a world where people rush to buy the latest fashionable product. I've always been frugal, even though I'm far from being skint. I take after my parents, who took frugality to absurd extremes.

  39. Being able to make your own choices with surplus money is being rich to me.I live frugally and spending is considered and prioritised, that way I always have money left to enjoy any way I choose...out for lunch, week away at the beach, some nice knitting yarn, movie, special gifts for grandchildren.
Most of my furniture is second hand, also a lot of my clothes and I'm vegetarian by animal welfare choice, love my food and eat well from local Farmers market.
It's just personal choice and priorities.

I wouldn't call you frugal. Being frugal is shopping in the cut price discount supermarkets like Aldi and Lidl for the yellow sticker cut priced stuff as a way of life and not setting foot in any other supermarkets. Being frugal is doing without however much you might want it. Being frugal is definitely not buying art or pottery ornaments and you've shown us rather a lot of that stuff over the past year.
Of course it's to you how you spend your money but to call yourself frugal is wrong and an insult to those who genuinely have to be truly frugal because they have no choice.

    1. I think that the definition of 'frugal' is based on your lifestyle before. As a person who had to be very careful with money while I had five children in the house and a husband who was watching his machinist jobs move out of country, we both worked very hard to keep things going. And we did it by living very frugally. Now, all these years later, the children are grown and it is just us. Our frugality has paid off, and we are very, very blessed. We still consider ourselves to be frugal though. In my mind, frugal means, simply, living beneath your means. Perhaps John's means and your means are two different 'means', but that doesn't mean he's not frugal.
