Last night I watched Kramer vs Kramer after realising that I’ve never seen it.
It was one of those films you think you have seen then ten minutes into it, you realise that it was just a thought.
I enjoyed it so much.
Streep was amazing.
This morning I’ve been walking with Chic Eleanor and now I’m cooking Spiced Turkey and Bean Soup for supper.
I’ve no news except that another Art Deco inspired print arrived today. I will hang it in my study a bit later. It arrived alongside Michelle Obama’s Becoming and a dvd of To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar which my bubble friend Ruth and I will watch on Saturday.
Tonight it is My Hitchcock lecture
And the cottage is filled with the vague scent of woodsmoke and soup
And the music from the album Ancient Heart by Tinika Tikaram
the aroma of woodsmoke, soup, lovely music, and nice plans .... sounds awfully good, John. Great movie Kramer vs. Kramer. Agreed - Meryl Streep was incredible in it. I could appreciate it even more post my own divorce. Enjoy your lovely time to relax. Hugs from the base of the mini-mountain in Maine where the wind is ferocious today.
ReplyDeleteIt’s a great example of intelligent acting
DeleteSounds like a lovely day, and pleasures to look forward to. Savour the moments.xx
ReplyDeleteThe film studies was lively
DeleteIt IS an amazing film...life in your cottage sounds pretty good too.
ReplyDeleteIt’s also a camp fairy tale and we all need a camp fairy tale
DeleteIt's a long time since I saw it; I'll watch it again to see the camp fairy tale aspect. The wonderful Vivaldi theme tune is all I remember.
DeleteTo Wong Foo is the fairy tale
DeleteIntriguing...
DeleteYour poster is lovely! The cottage sounds inviting.
ReplyDeleteIt’s nicely deco which I like
Delete"Kramer" is an EXCELLENT film. I hadn't seen it myself until about ten years ago and I was blown away. I'll be interested to hear what you think about "Wong Foo" -- I've always considered it a rather pale imitation of "Priscilla."
ReplyDeleteI love Wong Foo and I agree with you in part, Priscilla was more arty and had a depth to it . Something Wong lacks . But the American film has Three wonderful leads and a simple joyous romp
DeleteThat soup sounds really tasty. Are you doing a course leading to a qualification, or a 'leisure learning' type? Either way it sounds fascinating. Good luck - hope you get lots of enjoyment from it.
ReplyDeleteNo I’ve enrolled myself in several short film courses at the city lit in London.
DeleteI suspect I shall continue if I can afford to
I've always loved that song by Tanita Tikaram, but the video bears no relation to the lyrics. I hate when that happens.
ReplyDeleteI’d love to know what was in her head when she wrote it
DeleteOMG John! THAT song! Yes, please!
ReplyDeleteAnd KvsK is a great movie. To Wong Foo is a fun rump. LIke one of the commenters, I think it's a derivation (copy, let's call it copy) of Priscilla, QOTD. But like you, I think the leads kill it.
I have that Michelle Obama book. So good.
XOXO
Someone tell me what the song means
DeleteWoodsmoke and soup - conjures up lovely thoughts John. Enjoy
ReplyDeleteSmoky soup x
DeleteInspired from our last quiz appearance? Turkey and bean soup = a study of more wind in film. X
ReplyDeleteYes.......I wanted to revisit mz tikaram
DeleteAh, what can be nicer than new art, a new book, a movie, homemade soup along with it's aroma, a warm cottage, a friend to spend time with, and something interesting to learn tonight? Enjoy it all!
ReplyDeleteHugs!
It’s been a productive day off
DeleteIt looks like everything is set for a nice evening. I have read (Audio) Becoming and like it very much. She is a great lady.
ReplyDeleteShe comes across as a warm and naturally confident women who has plenty to say
DeleteI watched Michelle Obama dancing on YouTube x
ReplyDeleteSend me the link
DeleteMichelle Obama dancing uptown funk at The Whitehouse x
DeleteI really enjoyed Michelle's book...she's a much easier read than her husband!
ReplyDeleteI thought as much
DeleteYour Spiced Turkey and Bean Soup sounds good. I wonder if it is similar to a White Chili Soup that I make? I use chicken or turkey and the broth and add several different white beans. I use a stick blender on part of the beans to make a thicker soup and of course add green chilis, onions and spices.
ReplyDeleteI hope your Hitchcock lecture was good tonight. That sounds like a fun class!
Very similar ...lots of ,Spanish paprika
DeleteI saw Kramer vs. Kramer when it first came out and loved it. Thanks for reminding me of it. And thanks for turning me on to Tanika Tikaram. That song is great. And that's what great about the Internet. All the people with different tastes and experiences that can lead you to something great.
ReplyDeleteAnd that's an overuse of the word great! :D
ReplyDeleteThat’s great xx
DeleteLove the song and new to me singer will check out more of her songs later thanks for the introduction. I remember Kramer v Kramer so well, glad you saw it John. I love the lake Garda print I spent two weeks there in 1966 with seven girlfriends I was 22 and to young to fully appreciate it you just brougth back so many memories, Looks like you had a good day and more to look forward to with your friend Ruth.
ReplyDeleteTikaram is a serious lesbian who is striking to look at
DeleteWhen she smiles, her face glows
Life is good.
ReplyDeleteMostly xxx
DeleteKramer vs. Kramer is one of my favorite movies. And Meryl Streep was fantastic in it. I may have to watch it again!
ReplyDeleteI saw Kramer vs Kramer when it first came out and not since. Might be interesting to see again. So long ago I didn't even know who Meryl Streep was. Good to know you're experiencing only the VAGUE scent of woodsmoke. A nice change.
ReplyDeleteI really need to watch Kramer vs Kramer again, I remember it being absolutely brilliant, but strangely for me I remember none of the details.
ReplyDeleteI've just cottoned on to why you have now got a study to write in ... it's not the lure of writing a book that has called you to the spare bedroom but the vast expanse of potential in the wall space to carry on your art collecting!! After all the kitchen art wall is pretty full to capacity now isn't it. I see lots of happy art collecting ahead for you.
