The Rainbow Hospital

The hospice rang me at home this afternoon with the offer of a first Covid Vaccine.
I jumped at the chance and managed to get the 590 th slot at the newly converted Rainbow ( Enfys in Welsh) Hospital in Llandudno .
From the get-go I was impressed.
I was ushered to a parking space at Venue Cymru and a huge man in RAF uniform made it clear in no uncertain terms when the queuing “patients” could go in.
The Airforce had taken control of the whole kaboodle and boy did it show.
Within seconds I was ushered through the theatre foyer and was given an information sheet to fill in, seconds later uniformed airmen moved us through to the former conference centre which is the hospital proper where we waited, supported by volunteers, until the vaccinators were ready.
I have not seen inside a Rainbow Hospital before but I was totally blown away by it.
I could have walked into any district hospital of note rather than what was essentially a field hospital , knocked up by the army in just a few months.
Behind me was a Nigerian Doctor and in front was a community care worker, both caught my eye with the same impressed expression.
And as we waited the doctor admitted graciously that he felt rather “ humbled and emotional “ by the whole experience and I agreed.
We were seeing the Best of British organisation , military style.
I was shown into a bed space were a clerk completed my paperwork and a nurse gave me the jab and moments later I was led for a sit down before being let out for home
The whole thing from start to finish lasted 30 minutes.
An attractive and cheerful airman bid me goodbye and as I walked to my car, I suddenly felt rather emotional just as the Nigerian doctor admitted to feeling when he and I realised the enormity of the project in front of us

  2. Good to hear, you've had your first shot. It sounds like a very impressive set-up. There were complaints about the vaccination centre in Newcastle as elderly people were having to queue up outside in freezing temperatures for up to an hour when it first opened, but I'm sure they have remedied that now

What symptoms do you have. I hear so many people seem to have a plethora of symptoms

    2. Well, most obvious is what I believe they call peripheral neuropathy, in my case really extreme numbness and pins and needles in both feet and hands (which my wife is scaring me about by talking of Guillain Barre syndrome), and this does at times spread up my legs; then I have weird loss of some control over my leg and arm movements making walking rather difficult, often causing me to lose balance; then everything I eat or drink tastes horrible (bitter and metallic), except for camembert cheese and, thankfully, red wine; a bit of pain on breathing deeply, but thankfully that is lessening and I have been lucky to avoid breathing problems so far; and finally just extreme exhaustion at times, that just wipes me out and removes all motivation to do anything at all; oh and my vision is a bit weird. Apart from that I am great :) But, compared to some I am getting off lightly (so far). I have a telephone appt. with GP to discuss all this on Tuesday, but expect to be told to just cope with it unless I can't breath (which will be fair enough).

There is always an assumption things are long covid and that may not always be the case.

    4. My wife, who had Covid at the same time as me, has very similar symptoms but milder, which makes me think Long Covid, although I am also awaiting a hospital appointment re other weird nerve issues I had months ago, but heavens knows when that will arrive with most such things shut down due to Covid. We shall see.

My wife was a physiological measurement technician for years, doing EEGs (including direct on brain during brain surgery), nerve conduction tests and ECGs etc. She keeps me aware of various possibilities.

We have just registered with a G.P.Surgery locally, after living here a year! as we want to be informed when it is our turn. They said it would be quite a while till our turn as although over 60, we are well, heyho!
I do keep coming across people who say things like 'oh l don't like injections' or 'l don't know it is safe', let alone the New World Order conspiracy shit idiots etc. I say they should have gone to my Primary school with the boy in leg irons who had Polio, which has now been eradicated in the U.K. due to vaccinations.

  28. The vaccinations are completely disorganized in the U.S. but would probably have gone well with Obama or Hillary Clinton in charge. The federal government has left the states to figure it out, and they aren't figuring it out. We need a cohesive plan. I'm sure Joe Biden will do better, but he has to clean up the mess before we can move on. Our military is also a bit busy guarding Washington, D.C., from the fucking domestic terrorists.

  31. Here in the US, Covid vaccinations are not going smoothly from what I have heard and seen on tv. Maybe when Donald Dunk is out of office, President Biden can get someone busy organizing the vaccinations on a national level. State by state level is not working. It would be nice if some of our military people could be available to help organize and herd us along. I want to be sure and get the required two vaccinations of the same vaccine, no mix and match experiments for me. The system that your country, or community did, sounds positively elegant to what is going on here in the USA.

I was on a Zoom meeting today with some volunteers and one woman got her first shot yesterday (she is a nurse) - she said her arm was a bit sore but no other problems. Our issue hasn't been organizing things as much as it is a lack of vaccine - we have to get our supply from Europe and it is coming in slowly but steadily.

Nice too to see the Venue Cymru Rainbow Hospital finally being used for something, we have walked past so many times and wondered if it would ever get used, sad that it has in some ways and brilliant that it was ready to ... although we did miss the panto at the end of last year ;-)
