Nominations & Big Ups ( village social media)

Today’s blog feels very community and social media based....

Our Hattie has reached the final of a National Heroes competition !
So the news shared our local paper! How lovely is that ? She sooo deserves to win

The villagers have been busy voting the pub The Crown one of the top businesses in Flintshire too, a business that is facing a bloody hard time due to the covid restrictions . The new landlady and hubby chef just reopened the pub to much adulation a short while ago, only to be forced to shut , days after the successful re launch, and both have battled hard to come up with a takeaway service to keep the wolves from the door.
The takeaway menu is wonderful and eclectic

Storm Christophè has caused some local flooding here. Pippa from the rectory  posted this photo on the wardens social media page yesterday and messages bounced around from village leaders ian and Helen’s home which is called y felin which means Mill in welsh . Their house lies down the valley from me and was the position of an old water mill.
It is surrounded by water.
Sandbags may need to be moved there in the morning ......watch this space...

The lane just around from my cottage

More social media news. I got a tag from liv Randa yesterday evening who finished and loved the book I bought for her
It was Little Women
The family  Sent me a photo of happy baby sitting days ....well with old William doing the babysitting

Liv and the book

Covid has increased community spirit here...as it has done globally

  2. I think we have had live large in tiny groups. Also we've all had to grow things locally. So, you're right. It's not been all bad. I do not miss many things. Life is always good if you do good. Have a lovely.

  5. The flooding seems to be a repeat of last year's. I can imagine few things worse than finding one's house under water.

What a heartening and positive post all about heart and positivity from all sides. What a terrific and old fashioned - in the best sense of the word - community your village is. And goodness from all directions. Love it! More of it, please!

Hattie has great cheek bones and is very attractive. I watched some videos on YT today of a US man who when local streets flood and he goes around cleaning out street drains. He enjoys it and gets tens of thousands of views of his videos. It was quite mesmerising. I've been known to clear a street with my foot of general rubbish and it is quite satisfying to see the banked up water flow away.

Are those takeaway prices on the pub's menu? If so there must be some wealthy people living in your village if they can afford to get takeaways at those prices. £11.50 for a chicken breast? Blimey! That would rule out me eating from there as a pensioner. I can only imagine what they charge for eating in the pub in normal times. I know how much a whole chicken costs and those pub prices are steep.

    1. Of all the positivity in this post all you can do is to bang on about the cost of what is a proper restaurant meal and not a bag of chips
My mother had a saying of someone who looks so negatively at something
“ she could suck the Juice out of a lemon

  12. What a lovely photo of Hattie I hope she wins, so nice to see the photos of the girls I love the stories of you in the kitchen baking with them making happy memories as you go along. I wonder how they are doing during the covid it's hard for young people not to be able to go and visit friends. Hope it stops raining John.

  14. I am sure you are right John - the present crisis has definitely increased community spirit - good to think that some good might have come out of it.

  15. It takes a village to handle challenges, and you have one. For anyone tired of their own cooking, order take out of delivery from a local place. We did last night, and had them add a generous tip, if we want them to be for us when the doors reopen, we need to be there for them today (and it was nice to not cook when neither of really felt like it.)

  16. Looks like Trelawnyd got off lightly with flooding. I see there's serious flooding in some parts of England. Luckily our house isn't at risk of floods as we're a long way from the River Lagan.

  17. My heart aches for small businesses affected by this pandemic. I promised to support local businesses as my finances will allow (at least as far as restaurants go, I can afford to do the take-out). And there is also a local bookstore that I buy my books from despite the sales from the bigger chains.

  18. I'm glad there's a small positive side of this pandemic. Community spirit is a good thing. We didn't get much rain here at all -- just a lot of wind.

Hattie is lovely, fingers crossed for her to win.
When we get back to normal l have vowed to shop, or at least look to shop, in all the small shops in our local town.
That won't include the Vape Shop, Betting Office, Nail and Spray Tan Studio and Tattoo Parlour.
Everything else is fair game though
Let's all do it, save the small people!
    Tess xx
P.S. that menu looks good and cheaper than Domino's etc takeaway pizzas

What a delightful post! I feel as if I've had a visit and that's a welcome feeling.
Hattie is truly beautiful and I, too, hope she wins!
Hope the floods recede without causing too much damage.
I love the photo of your neighbor girls with William (I miss him, too) and it's wonderful that Liv enjoys reading. Do you know if she's read "The Secret Garden"? It's been my favorite book since I was about Liv's age.

    Hugs!

  28. As I know from our village here, where you see the word 'Mill' in a street or house name, you can bet they have to get the sandbags out these days - unless the mill was a windmill.

  29. I loved Little Women as a child. It was in a bookcase of red bound books and the only ones that had creased spines were Little Women and Black Beauty!! My daughter gave me a new hardback copy this Christmas so I am reading it now.
