We walked the dogs on Colwyn Bay Promenade and ate sausage baps thick with brown sauce, followed by large plastic cups of strong hot tea at one of the little kiosks at the Rhos On Sea end.
A woman waiting for her tea fell into conversation with us about the dogs and presumed we were a couple.
We played along because it felt nice to do so
Small pleasures now rank as high ones in this new world.
The film wonderbar 1934
That's really fun to play along that way.
ReplyDeleteA very long time ago, before I was out, my cousin and I were babysitting his sister's son. We were at the Gap and this lady said "I think it's brave what you two are doing". I replied, "oh no, I'm not with him. Oh not at all. Oh never". My cousin was so offended. He goes "why couldn't we be together". I replied "A...we are cousins and B...just no".
Lol , I love this tale x
DeleteI was with a friend during my holiday in a market whilst she was buying some vinyl to make aprons and bags-the man with a wooden ruler said "how much would you like sir" to my female friend and smiled at me then soon after my friend asked where the iron on tape was in a shop-the lady assistant said"this way sir"and smiled at me again x
ReplyDeleteLol
DeleteMy mum's 2 brothers were on a cruise after their wives had passed and a group of people they made friends with presumed they were a couple.Whilst queuing one day there for something a man took quite a fancy to one of my uncle's apparently x
ReplyDeleteIt a,ways happens to other people
DeleteI'm glad you played along John, not just because it felt good to you (but mostly that), but also because the woman may have been terribly embarrassed if you'd made it clear she'd got it wrong. I hope the tea was good - I hate 'stewed' tea - or coffee, as kiosk drinks often are.
ReplyDeleteThe tea was bloody lovely , made with care by the little Asian man who ran the kiosk ..I loved just how careful he was
DeleteJust think, and now they wouldn't even get an eyeroll.
ReplyDeleteI love how progressive that 1934 film was in some respects
DeleteWhat charming stories!
ReplyDeleteI love that you and your friend kindly "played along" with the woman's assumption. Who knows if that might lead somewhere, if not with him, then perhaps with someone who observed your actions from afar?
Nice, too, to actually be with a friend in these times and in such a lovely setting. Good tea make by a careful vendor was the cherry on top!
Hugs!
Yes small things are now incredibly important ...
DeleteThe walk and tea , once almost overlooked, is now incredibly enjoyed
Practice makes perfect!
ReplyDeleteSmall pleasures have always ranking high for me. My family said 'small things for small minds'. I stick my tongue out at them.
ReplyDeleteI’ve learned a great deal this year about small things ,
DeleteSmall pleasures indeed!
ReplyDeleteIsn’t it funny how these little things sometimes count so much? Especially now...
XoXo
Amen
DeleteJust being in the company of another person is meaningful today. The pandemic has put a mirror in front of us and we are all learning a great deal about ourselves and society in general.
ReplyDeleteSo right susan,
DeleteAs a single man, I now miss the immediacy of human contact
Walking along the seafront with a friend and your dogs, eating a sausage bap sounds like a WONDERFUL day out, not a small thing at all! I am tempted. A quick look at Google tells me I could drive Kidderminster to Colwyn Bay in 2 hrs 14 mins (going some, I think, for 113 miles, cross country!); but by train it would take 8 hrs 44 mins! And the Government wonder why people outside London don't use public transport!
ReplyDeleteCharlotte please do
DeleteI’m happy to meet you. X
When I'm allowed into Wales, we'll do it! x
DeleteToo right
DeleteA long time ago a girlfriend (girl and friend) and I went to stay at a little beach motel down in a community called Pass-A-Grille near St. Pete, FL. We knew that Pass-A-Grille was well known as a very popular place for same-sex couples to stay and to play and when we checked in to our room, we discovered that they had given us one double bed instead of the two singles we were expecting. When we went to the desk, the lady was a bit embarrassed. We just giggled. We could have played along but I was the mother of four and one of my main goals for the little vacation was to sleep in a bed by myself!
ReplyDeleteA lovely memory
DeleteYou are a delightful blogger x
You have no idea how much I appreciate that.
DeleteI LOVE that scene!
ReplyDeleteLove that scene. Marvelous. Thanks for sharing. Glad you had a lovely walk. Good for the soul.
ReplyDeleteXx
Deletegetting outside is good. my spouse has a friend who lives in wallasey; they e-mail each other every sunday. she is a former school teacher, now retired.
ReplyDeleteJust over the coast
DeleteMy best friend's aunt (lesbian) took us one night to Greenwich Village to a bar/dance place. We were about 18 yrs. young. Of course, because we were there, a few gals tried "hitting" on us thinking we were not straight. We always enjoyed going to Greenwich Village to listen to live jazz, dance and meet interesting people. Your movie reminded me of the fun we had. I went to the Club 80-something where drag queens put on a gorgeous show & was thrilled to sit next to Salvadore Dali. Hugs, and Happy 2021. Wishing all the best for you, John.
ReplyDeleteWhat a marvelous film clip!
ReplyDeleteThat clip was funny. Rather risqué at the time, I expect.
ReplyDeleteVery Happy 2021 dear friend. Envy you that sausage bap. Rhos on Sea brings back memories of bringing less able children there on holidays in the sixties
ReplyDeleteRhos is one doggy walk we've not done yet over Christmas. We've done West Shore, the Prom a few times, Trefiw and then yesterday it was Deganwy ... where Suky met up with some other Pugs her own age, one of whom was a left-hander ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely to think of you there with human and four-legged company enjoying sausage baps together and fresh air.
Oh and I meant to say ... I love that clip. Boys will be boys :-)
DeleteHow fun, keep doing things like that, and who knows what will happen,
ReplyDeleteThat was a good clip. Very ahead of its time.
ReplyDeleteWith a few tweaks, that would make a very pleasant poem, in couplets.
ReplyDeleteSmall pleasures have become so important this year. I hope we all continue to appreciate them once all the madness is over. xx
ReplyDeleteSounds like a nice day out!
ReplyDeleteIt was Steve , simple and lovely
