Another night
Another weepy film in the dark.
This time it’s Pride and Prejudice with Mathew Macfadyen’s tree trunk thighs
Oh be still my beating heart!
In a dark living room, I’ve watched a very careful Albert walk slowly to the blue trendy sofa where Dorothy is sleeping.
She is snoring as loud as Winnie used to do and strangely Albert has just joined her, padding carefully like a panther. his big eyes golden.
I held my breath as he curled up behind her, his head tucked tight against his tail and her side and briefly she stopped snoring ,lifted her head and sniffed him just once with sleepy interest. Then she laid her fat head back down next to his as I let out a sigh
A little thing, but it kind of broke my heart.
Excellent news!!
ReplyDeleteLovely but very poignant. xx
ReplyDeleteYes I was a bit choked
DeletePerhaps she'll calm down now Albert has decided she's worthy as a replacement. X
ReplyDeleteIt was Albert’s doing not hers
DeleteWonderment without words.....beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for Pride and Prejudice..
'You have bewitched me body and soul and I ..love..love
...love you...' oh that line gets me everytime...my daughter and I sat and watched it again and drank some gin and both had a few tears at the end..as usual..I want a Darcy! xx
Yes I loved that line too Libby
DeleteYou just want someone, sometime to say it to you don’t you
Sounds like the pieces of your household puzzle are coming back together and the hole that Winnie left is beginning to fill in. Which is as it should be.
ReplyDeleteI hope the peace will continue but I’m not banking on it
DeleteThat was very good. Albert relaxes with Dorothy. Maybe a new order is emerging.
ReplyDeleteFingers crossed
DeleteI held my breath as I read and then ... as you did ... I let out a sigh! Way to go Albert ... come on Dotty, show the boys your inner bull-girl! I have so much hope for that girl! Albert may be the answer!
ReplyDeleteI am a cat lover but that Dotty tugs at me! ❤
I hope I ts more than a one-off x
DeleteOh, I was in need of a Xmas miracle! So happy for you all. P.S. Light a candle, dear. The glow will do you good.
ReplyDeleteIt made my day too.....the first time I’ve seen then sit together
DeleteOh Albert. I so miss not having a cat.
ReplyDeleteHe’s an old star
DeleteLovely. I hope they can buddy up together more often. As for sad films - not for me, as I am too prone to melancholy without their help.
ReplyDeleteThe films I mentioned have more uplifting bits than down
DeleteI get the impression that Albert hides his wisdom, but will bring it out when needed.
ReplyDeleteHe’s been with me the longest ........I’ve only just realised that
DeleteWOW! albert has found a new friend. and so has dorothy.
ReplyDeleteI hope so x
DeleteExcellent news, although I was apprehensive as I read it! Albert might help little Dorothy let go some of her anxiety. Fingers crossed. We're watching cricket on this side of the world. But it's FREEZING cold - by gum we've had a dreadful summer so far. Central heating on and winter woolies layering again. 12 degrees, that's 53 to you up there. I'm glad we're not tenting!
ReplyDeleteAlbert ha s been with. Me for the longest of times , he’s 12
DeleteI hope 2021 goes well for the lot of you !
ReplyDeleteI hope so too...I deserve some happy days
DeleteIt seems Albert has adopted a new bulldog buddy now that his beloved Winnie is gone. I hope they have a good, long friendship together.
ReplyDeleteI doubt that, but it’s a start
DeleteHere is to hoping that Albert gives Dorothy a sense of belonging, security. A sweet family. Thighs!
ReplyDeleteShe’s dreadfully damaged David ......we will see
DeleteAlbert seems to be such a sensitive boy-I hope he took some comfort from snuggling up to Dorothy too xx
ReplyDeleteNew alliances are forming. Albert sent Dorothy a strong message: I'm here for you, you are okay. It seems Dorothy took note and gave a nod. New beginnings for 2021. This all seems very good.
ReplyDeletePossibly not a little thing at all.
ReplyDeleteI
How marvelous of Albert to extend the paw of friendship to dear Dorothy. May he help her feel calmer, safe, sheltered, and one of the pack.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder your felt choked up at Albert's stealthy action and Dorothy's sleepy acceptance.
Hugs to you, Leader of the Pack!
Good ol' Albert has been with you through thick and thin, what a touching scene of him with Dorothy you described. - Mary
ReplyDeleteTears here ...reading this . Comfort found , comfort shared, they need each other.
ReplyDeleteSo many have hope for new beginnings for Albert and Dorothy, here's to a new Darcy for you.
ReplyDeleteBet those thunder thighs could do some damage. My Darcy fantasy!
ReplyDeletePatty
I watched the Guernsey Literary... movie again today. I am glad you reminded me about it yesterday. It was lovely to see it again. Thanks, John.
ReplyDeleteThis made me so happy.
ReplyDeletecheers xx
Our Billy had a visit yesterday from two other Border Collies. We have no idea who owns them, or where they came from. They stayed for a short while, said their hellos, then disappeared. It was all rather surreal.
ReplyDeleteI know Albert misses Winnie. It is hard to see animals grieving. I hope this is the beginning of a special friendship between Albert and Dorothy. They could help one another. I'll be hoping you will one day be able to tell us that Albert was giving Dorothy the cat head rub of love.
ReplyDeleteIt is lovely news - but made my eyes mist a little too.
ReplyDeleteThings starting to become the new norm then? Hopefully.
ReplyDeleteA truly moving and heartening development which we desperately hope will last.
ReplyDeleteSuch good news so sweet of Albert to make the first move lets hope that Dorothy feels comforted by Alberts presence.
ReplyDeleteAaawh so sweet. We were watching TV. Our sleeping cat twitched lifted his head said meaow and went back to sleep. Priceless
ReplyDeleteOh gosh that made my eyes leak.
ReplyDeleteAlbert is a remarkable cat, I hope is calming influence soothes Dorothy x
ReplyDeleteA friendship formed. 💕
ReplyDeleteI have always loved watching our animals as they arrive here, taking their place in the family. Finding their role and their niche. When a void is left the pack shuffles and new friendships form with tighter bonds and more loving support for each other. This has been the only thing stopping us getting a new animal, with Bella's death our little trio are so tightly knit we are loathe to change the status quo.
Albert is a remarkable cat, he is very like my Toby was.
A poignant moment.
ReplyDeleteI was watching a film, too - Billy Elliot. Well, trying to. It just chokes me up, all the way through. I kept having to go out and come back in.
I know what you mean John - animals adapt to the death of a friend just as we do - they have feelings - if only everyone realised it. Your animals are so lucky to have you.
ReplyDeleteThat was lovely. Made me cry, though. And yes, we all need a Darcy.
ReplyDeleteEven in death there is much love....
ReplyDeleteI've never watched Pride and Prejudice. But now I think I need to.
ReplyDeletesadness and lost often brings beings together. i hope this continues.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely to witness that interaction between Albert and Dorothy. I do hope this emerging friendship continues and gives Dorothy a bit more confidence.
ReplyDeleteThe Knightley/MacFadden version of Pride and Prejudice is my favourite ..... I have watched it dozens of times !
ReplyDeleteIt seems that, maybe, just maybe, Albert and Dorothy have found each other ♥ XXXX
The casting in that film was surpurb
DeleteComing to terms. Lets hope for a strong friendship to build to help Dorothy cope with life a bit easier. A sad but happy moment. xx
ReplyDeleteI actually held my breath as you described the encounter. And got a lump in my throat. x
ReplyDeleteAlbert seems to have a weakness for sensitive bulldogs. It's nice to hear he is looking after Dorothy in the same way that he looked out for Winnie. May their friendship blossom!
ReplyDeleteHe’s not a cuddle cat
DeleteInfact he hates being picked up
So friendly contact with the dogs have to be on his terms
Those sweet little moments sometimes get missed in all the big stuff of life. I'm glad you didn't miss this one.
ReplyDeleteMe too Debby
DeleteI watched P and P this weekend too. I will be watching it again probably before the 1st because Netflix has told me it is only available until then. Sweet animals tug at my heart.
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet news.
ReplyDeleteYou mention how damaged Dorothy is quite often. What is her history?
ReplyDeleteGood on Albert.
I don’t know full details of Dorothy’s early days
DeleteAdorable.
ReplyDeleteIt was
DeleteLovely! May their tentative friendship blossom. Sounds like they both need the comfort each gives the other. Hoping for Darcy to find you in 2021. xx
ReplyDeleteI doubt they will be ever as friendly as Winnie and Albert was but an occasional snuggle will do me
DeleteIf you ever manage to get a photo of Albert & Dorothy snuggling up together I am sure it would warm a few hearts out here in Readerland.
ReplyDeleteI will ...I did photograph them but it was far too dark , the photo is on my Facebook page
DeleteI had to scroll down on your sidebar to work out the characters in this mini play of yours.
ReplyDeleteCaught you from Neil’s [ Yorkshire Pudding] blog
Nice to finally have you comment here welcome ....anyone who got the best of a certain troll is a friend of mine
DeleteI loved what you said Soupspoone x
DeleteI hope they continue to take some comfort in each other.
ReplyDeleteI don’t think Dorothy is capable of such intimacy ( except with me)
