“My good opinion once lost, is lost forever.”

Another night
Another weepy film in the dark.
This time it’s Pride and Prejudice with Mathew Macfadyen’s tree trunk thighs
Oh be still my beating heart!
In a dark living room, I’ve watched a very careful Albert  walk slowly to the blue trendy sofa where Dorothy is sleeping.
She is snoring as loud as Winnie used to do  and strangely Albert has just joined her, padding carefully like a panther. his big eyes golden.
I held my breath as he curled up behind her, his head tucked tight against his tail and her side and briefly she stopped snoring ,lifted her head and  sniffed him just once with sleepy interest. Then she laid her fat head back down next to his as I let out a sigh

A little thing, but it kind of broke my heart.

'You have bewitched me body and soul and I ..love..love

  4. Sounds like the pieces of your household puzzle are coming back together and the hole that Winnie left is beginning to fill in. Which is as it should be.

  6. I held my breath as I read and then ... as you did ... I let out a sigh! Way to go Albert ... come on Dotty, show the boys your inner bull-girl! I have so much hope for that girl! Albert may be the answer!
I am a cat lover but that Dotty tugs at me! ❤

  9. Lovely. I hope they can buddy up together more often. As for sad films - not for me, as I am too prone to melancholy without their help.

  12. Excellent news, although I was apprehensive as I read it! Albert might help little Dorothy let go some of her anxiety. Fingers crossed. We're watching cricket on this side of the world. But it's FREEZING cold - by gum we've had a dreadful summer so far. Central heating on and winter woolies layering again. 12 degrees, that's 53 to you up there. I'm glad we're not tenting!

  17. New alliances are forming. Albert sent Dorothy a strong message: I'm here for you, you are okay. It seems Dorothy took note and gave a nod. New beginnings for 2021. This all seems very good.

How marvelous of Albert to extend the paw of friendship to dear Dorothy. May he help her feel calmer, safe, sheltered, and one of the pack.
No wonder your felt choked up at Albert's stealthy action and Dorothy's sleepy acceptance.

Hugs to you, Leader of the Pack!

  26. Our Billy had a visit yesterday from two other Border Collies. We have no idea who owns them, or where they came from. They stayed for a short while, said their hellos, then disappeared. It was all rather surreal.

  27. I know Albert misses Winnie. It is hard to see animals grieving. I hope this is the beginning of a special friendship between Albert and Dorothy. They could help one another. I'll be hoping you will one day be able to tell us that Albert was giving Dorothy the cat head rub of love.

  35. A friendship formed. 💕

I have always loved watching our animals as they arrive here, taking their place in the family. Finding their role and their niche. When a void is left the pack shuffles and new friendships form with tighter bonds and more loving support for each other. This has been the only thing stopping us getting a new animal, with Bella's death our little trio are so tightly knit we are loathe to change the status quo.

Albert is a remarkable cat, he is very like my Toby was.

  36. A poignant moment.

I was watching a film, too - Billy Elliot. Well, trying to. It just chokes me up, all the way through. I kept having to go out and come back in.

  37. I know what you mean John - animals adapt to the death of a friend just as we do - they have feelings - if only everyone realised it. Your animals are so lucky to have you.

    ReplyDelete
  38. That was lovely. Made me cry, though. And yes, we all need a Darcy.

Albert seems to have a weakness for sensitive bulldogs. It's nice to hear he is looking after Dorothy in the same way that he looked out for Winnie. May their friendship blossom!
