Connery

Today’s film treat was a largely unknown but rather entertaining Space Western called OUTLAND.
Made in 1980 it was a kind of remake of the classic High Noon with a mining space station on  Jupiter a Moon standing in for the town of Hadleyville.
The film has Sean Connery in the famous Gary Cooper role with Frances Sternhagen playing his surprising ally in the altered Katy Jurado role, and the whole film is a refreshing twist on the “ sheriff with no friends storyline.
I liked the late Connery in this homage. He underplayed the quiet hero type very well and his scenes with Sternhagen as the foul mouthed over-the-hill station doctor in need of redemption have a rather moving power about them

  3. I could never get past his comments about how women should be slapped if they were this or that, and that that's what they wanted. Just couldn't. It was a loss because before I heard him say that in a documentary, he was a handsome man, to me. After that, he was ugly. I read today that he later "evolved" and changed his attitude, but for me the damage had already been done -- you know, like what has been seen cannot be unseen. -Kate

The movies Outland and A Fine Madness are new to me. Anyone remember Darby O'Gill and the Little People?

I quite liked Sir Sean and am glad those who wrote his obituary referred to those comments of his from the 1960s as "of that time" as he did learn better as he aged. I worked with many doctors in the late 1960s and early to mid 1970s who thought they could kiss any nurse they wanted to as well as undo bras and pinch bottoms as those are things the other nurses and I experienced. I'm not saying it was acceptable then, but a life shouldn't be judged on comments made more than 40 years ago.
Sir Sean was nothing akin to the horror and criminal behavior of Trump.
    Just saying.

    Hugs!

The best Bond until the arrival of Daniel Craig who absolutely nails it, the darkness in his soul true to the original books of Ian Fleming.
I didn't like many of his films though The Man Who Would Be King was ok.

  8. My husband and I had recorded Outland and we watched it. It was a very good movie. As soon as we finished the movie and put some news on tv, we heard the news that Sean Connery had passed away. So sad. He had lived a long good life. What a year it has been.

  12. My 'records' show that [surprise, surprise!] I did indeed see 'Outland' way back in 1981, though I've long since had no memory of it. Clearly didn't make much of an impression. Yet even further back, in 1974 he made another sci-fi romp, 'Zardoz', which was critically dismissed as being risible, and that I DO remember.

THE James Bond, in my book.

  14. Hi all, I have seen comments from people who have already received a loan from Anderson Loan Finance. I really thought it was a scam and applied for a loan based on their recommendations because I really needed a loan. A few days ago, I confirmed on my personal bank account the amount of $12,000.00 USD that I had requested for a personal loan with a rental percentage of 2%. This is really good news that I am satisfied with and I advise anyone who needs a real loan and is sure to repay the loan to contact them by e-mail.

They can lend you a loan!
