That film ,and others, makes one wonder about what if we had pursued a different path in life...success ,perhaps without deep personal happiness, is it worth it? Never mind,I am in a pensive mood, you are right, a lovely piece of cinema.-Mary
This film came out during a very low point in my life, my dad was dying and I was visiting him daily in hospital. I was feeling very depressed when I went to see it in the cinema and came out with a huge smile on my face - that music! I bought the cd as soon as I could and played it very loudly in the car on my journey to the hospital and sang the words very loudly too - what a sight I must have been to other drivers on the motorway! It got me through a hard time - I love the music and of course the film too, but the music is magical if now a bit poignant. x
Sometimes we all need to escape we need relief from what is going on around us. I love watching TV or DVDs on a Sunday afternoon especially in the winter months where you can snuggle under a blanket and just escape. It is a fantastic film and there are so many other musicals out there that for me do the same thing. It is a break we all need. Perhaps that is why I read so much as well. It is a form of escape too. My Dad always maintained that if you had a book you always had a good friend. I think the books also give us a visual release. I think my most favourite musical yet is My Fair Lady. I was four years old when I was taken to the cinema for the first time to see this at night. I absolutely loved it. Movies, books and films/DVDs are very necessary in my view, particularly now. So glad you enjoyed John. Take care Tricia
