Bluebell,Ghosts and the Mysterious disappearance of a nurse’s watch

I was up early this morning.
Bluebell has her MOT today
I’ve had her two years now
And she’s been a good friend to me all told .

Strange as it may seem I used to be a rather bad driver, but now with my lengthy daily commutes I have become a more confident and practiced one.
Another positive to come out of divorce.

I tell you this in way of a bit of local colour, for the main gist of the story centres upon me leaving the house early, early enough to bump into the new village leaders Ian & Helen who live down the lane
They were out walking their jaunty beagle.
Ian asked me if I had found my nurses Watch which he had in turn found in the lane and had placed it through Bluebell’s open window onto my passenger seat

I told him that I didn’t have such a watch and went off to search for it.
Dorothy had been there first.
The only thing left of the watch was it’s plastic case.
Like Captain Hook’s Crocodile she had swallowed the watch whole!
I’ve left a message to the watch’s owner on the village what’s app group saying that if anyone has lost it to please have a look on my garden lawn Later today
Dorothy is regular as clockwork and may deposit it after lunch!

The affable despot known as Jason has just phoned with a somewhat worrying tale of ghosts and ghouls
Now he is not know for tales of fancy but last night as he was putting out the bins on the side of his house on chapel Street he saw a stranger walking along the road.
The man was elderly and walked with the gait of a very old man. He was short , perhaps five foot five with a shock of bright white hair and although not frightened in any way , Jason stopped to watch the man as he had never seen him before.
As Jason stopped the man vanished

Now this is spooky

The area between Jason’s house and the chapel next door ( one of the oldest buildings in the village) seems to be a hotspot for the strange sightings of what is thought to be John Wynne the founder of Trelawnyd and village shepherd Graham as well as Auntie Gladys and several village schoolgirls  have reported strange sightings of a man in a long coat standing near to the village hall which sits on Chapel Street .
See this piece from the Trelawnyd History Blog

I’m convinced I’ve seen a ghost  the despot said on the phone to me this morning
And he wasn’t laughing

  2. I'm sure he's right. There is much more to life and the hereafter than we understand. A friend and I were once pushing our bikes over the old corpse road from Threlkeld to Keswick in the Lake District. It's a grassy track over a bleak and featureless bit of moorland. Somewhere in the middle, we saw an old man in a long black coat and top hat walking towards us. He passed us on our right, and when we said 'hello', he touched the brim of his hat. We then realised how bizarre this was and turned to look at him...There was no-one there and nowhere for anyone to hide. This was in broad daylight and there were two witnesses. I'm not laughing Jason.

  3. Oh how very scary.

I think I have seen a ghost, but I can't be sure. There was one other person with me. We could both swear that this being was holding a red candle and standing at the end of the hallway. When my friend screamed in horror, I turned to look at her, when I turned back, the candle and person was gone. There was no where for this person to have gone without us seeing their escape.

When I was a teenager I was shepherding a group of younger children along a path when I became aware of a strange man walking in front of us. I turned my head to speak to one of the kids and when I looked back the man had disappeared. There was nowhere for him to hide, as it was open parkland on one side and a river with well-mown banks on the other, plus it was a bright sunny day, so visibility was excellent. Many years later my father, who was cynical about all things paranormal, had the same encounter in exactly the same place...

When we first moved in the house was empty for 6 months. The door would slam shut and we would be locked out. Lol She saw we loved the house and it was being taken care of. Eventually she stopped locking the door and slamming it when were in there.

  23. We had a ghost in the farmhouse where I grew up. My brother told me the other day that the current occupiers have had an exorcism carried out, or however it is that such a thing is described. I felt rather sorry for the ghost although we had never known who it was. My brother is epileptic and I had always seen a connection between him and the ghost but now I think not as the new occupants have experienced the ghost without any prior knowledge of it and without him.

  24. I haven't seen a ghost in my house but I think there are some strange goings on.I have lived here 36 years and it's 100 years old now.I've always been a bit spooked walking around the bend on the landing towards the bathroom and back bedroom especially at night and even in the daytime really.I almost run back along and around the corner sometimes.I don't know what it is but it gives me the willies.I remember when viewing the house there was a photograph of a nun on the wall there.Downstairs several times pictures have not just fallen from the wall but seem to throw themselves-but then again it could be bendy nails.Horseshoes clattered on the floor too the week to the day and time my darling top dog passed.Stopped clock run by battery corrected itself when I was reluctantly going to visit my deceased mum at the funeral parlour(she always bought the batteries for it when it stopped)A couple of years ago I bumped into the nephew of the lady who previously lived here and his wife said " have you seen the ghost yet?"x

I was newly married and we were renting two rooms at the top of an old house in Northampton. We hadn't been engaged long and didn't have essential things like a vaccum cleaner, so I used a carpet sweeper in the two rooms and a dustpan and hard hand brush on the stairs leading up to our rooms.

This is difficult to describe, because I didn't actually see a ghost, but felt and had a visual image of this man crawling up from the bottom of the stairs behind me as I was going down with the dustpan and brush. He was dressed in old seafarers clothes, striped top, a black reefer type jacket and a black seafarers hat. I can still see his face which was full of malice and hatred and he was laid flat out on the stairs with his arms outstretched pulling himself up. I didn't look behind me, but I ran up the few stairs I'd done pretty dam quick and locked myself in to a room. It really shook me up and I don't think I ever cleaned those stairs again.

I can't understand the clothes as Northampton isn't anywhere near the sea, but I believe that the house had been used for lodgings in the past.

Ghosts won't hurt you - they are merely re-living an episode of their life and we have the privilege to witness it.
Poltergeists exist but that is a different story.

  33. Forgive me, but all these ghost stories were fun reading. Here's mine. When I worked the overnight shift caring for developmentally disabled adults, my shift mate enjoyed watching these reality programs about ghost hunters. To be honest, those things spook me, because I do believe that there are mysteries in this world that cannot be explained, so I tried extra hard to logic my way through these programs. The following night, as I got ready for work, roaming between the bathroom and the livingroom to chat with my husband as I got ready to go, I was telling him about one very stupid program. Toothbrush in hand, I said, "...and then he got a newspaper clipping that showed that someone died in the house and the owner exclaimed, "I KNEW it. I felt a presence!" and that was the end of the show. I said, "We know that at least four people have died in house (it is 100+ years old). Based on that program, OUR house should be haunted." And I shit you not (no offense to your watch dog, Dorothy), there was a house shaking thud. It was loud. I stood there clutching my toothbrush, and my husband leapt off the couch. He rushed to the stairs and I said, "Where are you going?" and he said, "It came from the second floor." I said, "It didn't. It came from the basement. I felt the floor vibrate." He headed downstairs. I did not, because I'd seen enough silly movies to know that one NEVER goes into the basement to investigate a strange noise. I felt a bit like the cowardly lion standing in the hall holding my toothbrush and chanting to myself "I DO believe in spooks, I DO, I DO, I DO!" We have never had anything like that happen before or since then.

  37. A few years after Dad died I was visiting Mum and was in the kitchen on my own when I heard a loud man's voice very close, saying a sort of "Ow ow ow" as if in pain. No radio or TV on and Mum was sitting quietly in the lounge where I had left her. I couldn't remember afterwards where the dog was ( with Mum I think) but don't remember him barking or being worried. (Mum did have a " lifeline" button and the device was in the room next to the kitchen but if they ever called through to Mum if she had pressed the button there was always a lot of clicking and whirring before anyone got to speak.)I thought afterwards that it was a bit like Dad's voice but maybe that was me being fanciful!

  40. I often sensed a presence in our house after we first moved in and still get a bit spooked going in our loft room. I saw what could only be a ghost years ago, one very foggy day. There was a woman, wearing a long dress just standing at the bottom of our garden. She suddenly moved away....and disappeared through the fence! Our youngest son, as a child, often talked about the man in the garden. He used to wave through the window to him
