Hygge.......definition
“ Hygge is a Danish and Norwegian word for a mood of coziness and comfortable conviviality with feelings of wellness and contentment. ”
I needed some hygge tonight
And in the guise of Jason the affable despot’s “Botha” I found it in spadefulls
It was lovely .
I haven’t seen much of Jason and his wife Claire during lockdown but tonight I met them in “The Bothy”
Which is their adapted washouse which has been converted into a mini pub, complete with tv, karaoke, fairly lights , bar, seating and roasting open fire
Think Little Hoise On The Prarie with gin and good company and you will get my gist
A roaring fire and bar stools
I only managed three very large gins before turning for home but it was lovely to meet up again with two dear friends and experience Hygge when it was needed the most
Hey ho
Cozy nights close to home are the best.
ReplyDeleteIt was lovely , I am gifting my light up flamingo to the Bothy
DeleteGood idea. It never went with your hair anyway.
DeleteThat looks and sounds perfect.
ReplyDeleteIt was
DeleteThere's nowt like a gin with yer crocks on JG, CHEERS xxxx
ReplyDeleteMiss norm , they go everywhere with me
DeleteONLY 3 large gins? Good grief ... how many do you usually slog down? Hopefully you were close enough to home you could have crawled home! LOL
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a cozy, comfy evening with friends.
I was walking very straight you lightweight xx
DeleteLOL ... anymore I am a lightweight when it comes to booze ... in my younger day I could put the ole bourbon and water away with the best of'em!
DeleteWhat do you mean - 'only?'
ReplyDeleteI was tired
DeleteLooks very cozy indeed. If I drink Gin I get maudlin. I prefer a few bloody marys.
ReplyDeleteJo in Auckland
I’ve only drunk bloody Mary’s on the way to New York
DeleteI like bloody Marys in the winter also hot buttered rum. Lovely!
DeleteI have a Hygge book and the ideas for creating a cozy home are wonderful.
ReplyDeleteSo glad that you were able to relax and enjoy time with these friends and the warm and welcoming atmosphere in their Bothy. Good, too, that it's close to your home for both getting home after your G&Ts but also to return for another visit no too long from now.
Sweet dreams!
Hugs!
I will sleep tonightbx
Deletelooks like a lovely place to hang out. I hope their girls are well; they must be getting quite grown up now.
ReplyDeleteThey are ..I saw liv who is approaching 11 . I promised her my copy of LITTLE WOMEN she is so like Jo March v
DeleteWhy havent I got friends like that? Lovely John.
ReplyDeleteI bet you have
DeleteWhat a great idea, it looks the perfect cozy place...if your guests get totally sozzled and can't walk home, you can just leave them there til tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI think this has happened a few times
DeleteHygge is a new word for me. I think I'm going to be using it a lot!
ReplyDeleteI think u pronounce it HOOOOG
DeleteHygge is so yesterday. (It is pronounced hoogah like nougat).
ReplyDeleteEven if it was so “yesterday” it was rather nice
DeleteVery inventive, creating a pub atmosphere for friends to meet up, eat, drink and relax. Happy times. You will be a weekly regular.
ReplyDeleteI think I may
DeleteLooks comfy, and rustic. Crocks!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLovely.
ReplyDeleteIt was,
DeleteA Hygge bothy sounds perfect John and with your Pink Flamingo even better.I too have a hygge book like Barbara Anne but unfortunately it's hiding somewhere in my chaos x
ReplyDeleteOnly three very large gins? You disappoint me.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice relaxing evening! Are you off work for a stretch now?
ReplyDeleteOoh that sounds good. I am so happy that you were able to spend such a pleasant evening, John. And you even had a nice looking doggie for company!
ReplyDeleteI have always associated 'Bothies' with Scotland, but I had a friend in N London who's house was called 'The Bothy', and I now find there's another in Wales. The Bothy goes international!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like it was 'just what the doctor ordered' - hasn't Covid taught us how important good friends are! If you were tired three very large gins were probably about your max! I hope you had a really good sleep afterwards.
ReplyDeleteWas Jason being a bar-steward as usual?
ReplyDeleteMust be the equivalent of the German word 'gemuetlich' ['e' standing in for untype-able umlaut] 'cos that's what it looks like.
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful. How lovely to be invited for gin and company.
ReplyDeleteThe sort of evening we could all do with John.
ReplyDeleteOh that looks lovely and cosy ... I bet you slept well when you got home 😄
ReplyDeleteOh and you were the inspiration for my latest blog post 🤣🤣.
It looks and sounds wonderful. It's good that you got to spend time with friends and unwind a bit x
ReplyDeleteThat sounds perfect x
ReplyDeleteThat really does look welcoming. :)
ReplyDeleteIf that was a gin in your hand it was a very large one indeed!
ReplyDelete...or a large glass only partly filled... or plenty of tonic...
DeleteSounds, looks like my kind of moment . . .
ReplyDeleteRating high on the hygge . . .
What a charming spot and good company.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely John. Glad you got out to see them
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of a pub in your own garden
ReplyDeleteThe "only" in "I only managed three very large gins," when coupled with the "very", amused me. Sounds like you did ok.
ReplyDelete...and now that is two locations I need to try to bag an invite to if I ever make it to Trelawnyd. I can bring Edinburgh Gin.
DeleteLooks to me like the Hygge (or the gin) did you good.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! It has been so long since I experienced something like that I cannot remember
ReplyDeleteSounds perfect x
