Horse post repair!!!
My first day of holiday was today
At 9am I sat at the kitchen table and made my list for the week
A to do list
The first hour, I sipped at my bucket of coffee and made four list headings which I added words to when they entered my head. This took two hours, three cups of coffee ,one play for today, downloaded from radio 4 and a nasty moment when Albert knocked the hind leg off my pottery horse!!!
I was pleased as punch with my lists when finished even though it wasn't comprehensive
Finance. Home. People. Misc.
Registration. Clear drive. Nando. Mary haircut
Bills. Back Garden. Polly. Strim Field
(Numerous. Car brakes. Gorgeous Dave. Daily bike rides
Lines re Paint Hall. Eleanor Paint bookcase
different bills). Lino in bathrm. Ben/Ruth. Start making Chess set
Sell old bike. Clear shed. Colin Box set BroadChurch and Killing Eve
Clean garden shed. Sell unwanted crap
Paint back of cottage Get Grandfather clock working
Repair gutter. Flowers
Each line has a box drawn after it and by the end of the morning I had already ticked six off, which included selling my ex husband's bike which he had left unclaimed in the kitchen shed for the past two years!
The money paid for my nursing reregistration, Mary's Haircut and a new pair of shoes for me!!!!
Result!!!
I met my Uruguay friend Nando and had tea and long chats in the grounds of the hotel he runs.
Spanish speakers swear in a musical way , especially when they say fuck .....( which is pronounced Fook)
It makes me giggle
I bought flowers for the cottage and was home by seven
I ticked off three more boxes after I'd got through the door
I love ticking those boxes !!!
As a late spring cleaning project, that takes some beating! And the bike project rewarding in every WayNe's broom new you. Corner well and truly turned, my friebd. Thrilled for you. X
ReplyDeleteI got my already programmed and blanked ATM card to withdraw the maximum of $1,000 daily for a maximum of 20 days. I am so happy about this because i got mine last week and I have used it to get $20,000. Mike Fisher Hackers is giving out the card just to help the poor and needy though it is illegal but it is something nice and he is not like other scam pretending to have the blank ATM cards. And no one gets caught when using the card. get yours from Mike Fisher Hackers today! *email cyberhackingcompany@gmail.com
DeleteI love lists too. Especially crossing things off when done. Nice variety of chores and fun too.
ReplyDeleteYay!!!!
ReplyDeleteThats a busy week off you have planned enjoy.
ReplyDeleteSometimes ships "list" - often after they have hit a bloody great rock. How come "Killing Eve" is listed in the Finance column?
ReplyDeleteMy lists when tits up
DeleteSo ... it's you who funds the assassinations ;-)
DeleteOne can only assume Killing Eve is in the finance column because it is a job that John needs to pay to get done. Anyone called Eve in the village should take note (as should the local constabulary, of course).
DeleteEve could very well be code for someone else.
DeleteI have never made a list. To me it seems like creating a monster.
ReplyDeleteIs Killing Eve to watch John?-My dad's Italian girlfriend said to me "pass the fook n knife and I thought she was swearing at me-I told my mum and she said "she's a foul mouth" and another time "I've put the sh*ts on the line"x
ReplyDeleteKilling Eve is a must see if you don't mind a bit of comedic gore.
DeleteYes I watched it Mavis and loved it x

ReplyDeletemy spouse's blog post about "to do" lists. I never make a list; I am too damn lazy and I just don't care.
Your 'ticking' comments reminded me of a line used in one of my favourite shows, The Good Life, when Tom would say "tick, VG". Getting so many items checked off must have been very satisfying!
ReplyDeleteShoes were not on the list, creating disorder in an orderly mind
ReplyDeleteI'm a list creator, usually my husband's not mine :)
ReplyDeleteWhat about the grandfather clock, I thought it was already yours, or has it been to the mender ?
So lovely to see you are filling your days, with "to-do's" and have-dones'.....
Enjoy your well-deserved break.
Hugs,
~Jo
I had a colleague who made a list every morning, before starting work. His number one task every day was 'make list'.
ReplyDeleteI print my lists on my desk pad. It gets messy, but is orderly because I line out every accomplishment. When the pad holds no more, I tear off the top sheet. Done, done and done.
ReplyDeleteI, too, am a list maker. Each morning (also over coffee) I make a list for the day. I check off the ones that have been done and have been known to write in something I did that wasn't on the list and then check it off. Yep! :)
ReplyDeleteYou may certainly add "get new shoes" to your list and check that off as done. Hope the new shoes are marvelously comfy and that your feet thank you each time you put them on and take them off.
Hugs!
Just said to Rachel how lovely and satisfying it is when all of those jobs are done ..... that’s when the flowers go in the vase ..... the final flourish ! XXXX
ReplyDeleteNice to get things paid for by selling that bike! My free time lists are sometimes mental, sometimes written. If it's important stuff I do write it down, often not getting it all done as scheduled, yet eventually I get it done.
ReplyDeleteWill you post a picture of your new shoes? Unless they are just for your job,it would interest me.- Mary
I was going to say it's an ambitious list but you've ticked off 9 boxes just on the first day -- you're a whirlwind!
ReplyDeleteThat list makes me exhausted. I make them but never seem to succeed in doing everything.
ReplyDeleteI discovered when cleaning my son's room while he was off at college that instead of throwing away his completed lists he put them in a drawer. I asked, and he said when he was feeling bad and like he couldn't do anything he could look and see the stack of things he had accomplished. I thought that was very wise for a 19 year old with challenges.
I love making a list and then I really love checking things off the list. I have been known to put something on a list that I have already done just so I could check it off! Silly? yes, Satisfying? oh yes!
ReplyDeleteWhy do you have to pay to register as a Nurse? Is this a Union fee, or simply allowing you to work? Sounds odd.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was working in the USA as a nurse, we had to pay to renew our nursing licenses every year or two, depending on where you were working. Each state has its own rules about that. In return, the state would send back a wallet size card to prove you were licensed in that state for that time period and your employers had to see that card to note it in your personnel record.
DeleteHugs!
I have to pay 120£ a year just to work
DeleteMany jobs require professional fees to be paid to work. I used to have to pay £250 for my annual registration with the Stock Exchange. Professional fees are eligible for tax relief.
Delete$350 a year due by December 1, every year. Then union dues every payday.
DeleteIn total it costs around $1,000 a year just to work, and then I still have to buy uniforms and shoes
What Rachel said. Accountants, doctors and lawyers are all required to pay as well.
DeleteLove the horse, small red coaster and the pitcher with small bird.
ReplyDeleteHappiness today !
You sound happy that is lovely.
I am happy today as the wildfire missed my home !
parsnip
Such good news, parsnip. I have been anxiously checking your blog to see if you were OK.
DeleteThank You ! xx
DeleteI will post either late today or tomorrow.
PS ... John - I don't recall the damaging of a horse? Part of a temper tantrum, perhaps?
ReplyDeleteI live by lists, John!!! It is very satisfying to tick those boxes - but for each one ticked I seem to add a new task on. It's also nice to have a reward when those tasks are finished, after all, chocolate never asks questions, chocolate never judges and chocolate always understands!

Poor Eve... Is it expensive to hire a Hit Man?
ReplyDeleteSounds a bit too busy for a holiday!
ReplyDeleteYou achieve so much! maybe I would do more if I made more lists?
ReplyDeleteWhat is Killing Eve doing in finance? Do you have shares in the production?
ReplyDeleteYou have a shed in the kitchen??
ReplyDeleteI like a good list , and like Bonnie I have been known to add something already done to give the satisfaction of ticking it off. Enjoy your holiday and just do the nice things on your list! It is going to be too hot to clear out a shed....probably even in N Wales!
Be careful not to mix up Mary's haircut with strimming the field...
ReplyDeleteWhen things I have to do start going round and round in my head, that's when I write a list. It helps just to get things down on paper - clarifies priorities. We also have a weekly food shopping list, added to as we use something. Sad perhaps, but it works!
ReplyDeleteI used to have a to-do list everyday for work but now I just rely on my memory. So many things never get done now!
ReplyDeleteI only like a list if there is every chance I can tick everything off in a reasonable amount of time. Once a list is up and running I have been known to add new things that I have just done that weren't on the list to it ... just so I can cross them off immediately.
ReplyDeleteIt is satisfying isn't it :-)
I love to-do lists and, especially, checking things off. I'll be it felt good to get some useful money for that bike! Have you ever heard a Spaniard say "focus"? The next time you're with Nando, write it down and ask him to say it. (I'm sure he's got plenty of Spanish words he could ask YOU to pronounce in return.)
ReplyDeleteIt's the best feeling to have everything under control in the house. It makes for a solid base to launch yourself into the world at a moments notice.
ReplyDeleteI prefer heavily crossing out rather than ticking John - if I get a good thick pencil I can press hard and get a real feeling of success.
ReplyDeleteNothing better than a true sense of accomplishment, I say.
ReplyDeleteI am a 'list man' as well......couldn't get through a day without one. Check/tick!!
A quick read down your list to 'get grandfather' my first thought was , I need a grandfather too just now. Then I saw the 'clock working.'
ReplyDeleteI make a list for myself everyday. If I don't, I get sidetracked.
ReplyDeleteThe only list I ever make is my grocery list and, most of the time, I remember to take it with me to the grocery store! However, I have been known to forget it atop the microwave in the kitchen and then try to remember what the hell I wrote down while cruising the aisles of the store! I always end up with things NOT on the list! LOL
ReplyDeleteExhausting! All that painting, ugh. Where is "Sit in the shade on a a comfy lounger, with a tall glass of Long Island Iced tea/ heavy on the ice---a good book, and doggy naps nearby. "???
ReplyDeleteOh no - what are you going to do about the pottery horse??!! x
ReplyDeleteI've fixed him
DeleteI love a list! Good job on getting so many things ticked!
ReplyDeleteWhat shall you do with all your SPARE time?
ReplyDeleteI like Lizzy D's idea of the shade and a drink and doggy snores.
WOW! We are all proud of you.
ReplyDeleteI stopped making lists when I became obsessed with lists. But I understand the need to compartmentalise everything so you can get through it. Well done on selling the bike...extra money for you!
