The Scent Of Honeysuckle

Yesterday one  of the sisters on our local intensive care unit sent me a photo of the staff accepting Mrs Trellis' sponsored walk monies.
She asked me to forward it on which I will do
I will probably frame it for her also.
A nice momento for the kitchen wall.

Siri? What day is it today?
Sunday! Crikey ...it's the last day of May today !!!
It's June 1st tomorrow ....

I'm making a tomato, papaya, salmon and mozzarella salad for lunch
The ones I used to love in Sitges
But I've forgotton the fucking basil !
Bollocks

I wasn't going to blog today but my sister in law just video messaged me worried that I had not blogged for a few days .( she had not refreshed her Going Gently page )
At least if I ever succumb to a serious illness , I will always be found by a worried relative or friend before the dogs start eating my face off!

That's the down side of blogging sometimes.
Everyone seems to know  your news but you don't always know theirs
A one way mirror of sorts.

Lockdown changes here tomorrow and I will go and see my sister  to give her my birthday gifts.
I think it's going to be as hot as it is here today so we shall sit in her garden and I shall drink tea out of my own cup and saucer, and made by me in my sturdy thermos!

How different we do things?

I can't tell you how glorious it is here
Right in this one small moment of time
I have the front door of the cottage open and the sun is heating the honeysuckle flowers that adorns the front of Bwthyn y llan so that the whole house is filled with the scent of a June birthday!

The intensity of the fragrance cannot be described, it's so strong and heady
The carpet needs a hoover, Winnie has kicked around three of the fifteen scatter cushions in temper as she waits for her lunch and Albert needs a feeding .
I haven't made my bed yet
And there are dishes to wash up
Oh and all of the plants on the patio need watering after which underpants need fetching from their sunning places on the garden shrubs

But the cottage is full of honeysuckle , and I'm not moving for a few more moments yet!!

  1. Oh to have an idyllic cottage like yours John. I love Rambling old fashioned Roses and Honeysuckle especially the scent wafting in making life seem somehow still and special and oh to breathe. So glad to see your joy in your home and personal space where you breathe and simply be. Animals will be animals but they give you so much unconditional love. Enjoy the moment xx

  3. It really is so hot here in North wales today isn't it, beautiful but far too hot to sit in for long.

We both worked for an hour in the Net Tunnel weeding the last of the beds and refilling with new compost and then that's it for the outside work today. We sat enjoying cold drinks for a few minutes and then Mavis appeared, covered head to toe in thick sandy soil from inside a rabbit hole.

So then it was bath time for doggies, how quickly plans of doing nothing for half an hour vanish.

Enjoy seeing your sister tomorrow, how brilliant that our lockdown rules changed just in time for you to spend time together on your birthdays.

    Happy Birthday for tomorrow. xx

  5. Isn't it funny how we work so hard to make beautiful places to live and then hardly ever take the time to just sit and relax and enjoy what we have created?

  10. That sounds so peaceful. Yesterday I sat outside and the air was full of the scent of lilac. It was late this year, as winter went on and on, just like this virus. Finally it has warmed up and my irises have started to get buds. We have had a great deal of family drama this spring, and I feel exhausted and ready for a break of some kind. Very best wishes for a great birthday and a wonderful year to come. Take care

Our honeysuckle is blooming and the fragrance is blissfully lovely. It is the perfume of my childhood's early days of summer vacation from school.

Hurray for the check given to the hospice from Mrs. T's stellar efforts!

Happy Birthday to you and your sister! Hope you enjoyed the envelope the card I send arrived in. :)

    Hugs!

"...how glorious it is here. Right in this small moment of time."

You once again impress me with how beautifully and accurately you use language,John.

A moment that could be described the same way was one here minutes ago.

Feeling poorly I wasn't surprised to become suddenly too warm for comfort. So I stepped out to feel the cool breeze blowing across my back deck. Just then a magnificent golden eagle soared overhead, slowly riding the wind's currents. I was mesmerized, and that simple experience turned my low mood into feeling profoundly grateful. - Mary

  14. I tend not to write on the weekends. I spend enough time behind the computer during the week but sometimes I get a bit curious and check in on others too. It is a one way mirror but the writing is therapeutic.

  18. There's a "Korean" (maybe) lilac by our back step that has a powerful, overwhelmingly glorious scent that knocks me back in awe every spring. Hasn't bloomed yet ... we just got our poplar leaves last week.

I loved your description of your moment and have added it to my file of favourites for Blondi's Side Order. Like you, I have a lot of details to tend to but I guard my beautiful moments with great care.-Kate

  25. Oh, god, the fragrance of honeysuckle! We tried growing it on our terrace, but it just wasn't happy. Don't know why, but we didn't enjoy the high maintenance. Maybe too hot. Maybe too sunny. So, we just have to appreciate it when it blooms around the neighborhood.

  27. Those moments happen oftener than we think, but it's hard to notice them at times and harder still to savour them without moving on to the next thing to do. Being in the moment takes awareness and effort, ironically! When you record these moments they are a pleasure to read.

  28. Be so careful visiting relatives. Just watched an unintentional incident. Park next to my house my neighbours met her mum. Adults in front precious little girl in the middle n grandma at the rear. Little Sarah fell over instinct clicked in grandma scooped her up. All I could hear was mum put her down, old lady said no turned her back and for a minute by her body language held the little one so tight n contemplated running with her opposite direction. Ye god's how hard to watch and be that grandma, bairn mum n dad. Sob.

My honeysuckle is by the front gate - I will have to get up close and personal tomorrow - I have had far too much pollen today considering the effect it has on my asthma.

  39. Happy birthday, John! The honeysuckle is just starting here, should be at peak in a few days. The lilacs have the centre stage now, and the lupine are on deck. Their scent is very light, but we've got a bunch in the farther back yard, so if you stand just right, you get their delightful scent wafting on the breeze.
