Mini Drama

The girls tonight

I took the younger dogs out for a walk this morning
We walked up to Chic Eleanor's house
Leaving Winnie asleep on the lawn
We were gone perhaps half an hour
On returning to the cottage I turned the corner by Trevor's bungalow  to see a British Telicon van  stopped in the middle of road with its driver standing in the lane by the open van door.
I could see a large brown bulldog shape lying in the road

" oh god!"  I shouted out and galloped forward dragging the dogs with me and the driver suddenly grinned when he saw me
" He won't move !" He said pointing forward
Winnie was sunbathing in the middle of the lane, right on the corner
She was grinning at both of us

Damn these animals sometimes! I think they do this kind of thing just to get a rise out of us. Like we enjoy having our heart both stop and crash out of our chests. I did the OMG dash the other day. Saw a flattened out animal in the pasture. Turned out that the goat was just taking a sun bath like Winnie. The goat just raised his head and scowled at me then lay back down. Sigh.

You galloped, I would be mighty impressed to see that.
Thank goodness Winnie was only casually lying in the sun in the road and all was well.
We had a Jack Russell and a cade lamb who were best friends and escaped one day; they were brought back not too far from home by a lovely elderly lady in a Morris Minor and she seemed pleased to be rewarded with a bottle of raspberry wine and a jar of chutney.

OMG! What a relief that Winnie was acting as a friendly speed bump and wasn't injured. You know she has a "thing" for delivery people and uniforms ...

    Yes, must always close gate.

Hope Mary has room to lie down on the couch so she can sleep comfortably.

    Hugs!

And I'm glad the story turned out okay - thank you for the title which did reassure me. Yay for that driver being able to stop in time and for having a sense of humour about it all.

  31. Good for her; she knows her rights!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hell's bells! Made me freeze all over it did. What makes it worse is that we all know she did it deliberately - and had a good laugh at you up her sleeve, the li'l old devil!

    ReplyDelete
  33. thank goodness you live in a quiet rural place where postmen are prepared for dogs in the road and able to stop or drive round them :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ha! Ha! Is there a road sign that warns of bulldogs lying in the road? With her pretty little face and fluttering eyelashes, how on earth could the Telecom man not tell that she is a bitch?

  35. It's an absolute heart-stopping moment isn't it. When we first moved here and before we had the gates we drummed it into the dogs to never go near the road and they obeyed.

Until one day as we were working on the hillside, the traffic slowed right down and then stopped in both directions and then finally someone beeped their horn and we walked over to see what was going on. There was Suky sat in the dead centre of the road just watching everything. No doubt a bit scared, but fascinated by her new found power.

Sensible in someway as she wasn't going to get hit by anything if she didn't cross in either direction, but my heart stopped and then did a flip. She never did it again, it was a lesson learned a scary way for all of us I think.

I'm glad Winnie was safe, you'll never leave the gate unlocked again will you!!

Yes John will probably leave the gate open, it's not the first time his dogs have escaped.

    2. Anyone can make a mistake, there's no need to be so bloody negative. Some dogs just escape!!

If someone wants to leave an anonymous comment they wouldn't be signing their name!

In this instance John had left the garden gate open. Which you can read for yourself if you read the comments above. The dog didn't 'escape' it was free to wander out of an open gate onto a road. As the cottage is on a sharp bend there could have been a disastrous accident, not only the dog could have died but the driver too.

So keep your stupid "some dogs just escape" comments to yourself.

    4. Well a disasterous accident would be pushing it as the speed limit around the corner is around 5 miles an hour
I find these comments interesting as they oooze bile and nastiness
I suspect this says more about anon than it does about the subject matter
Gleefully pointing things out !! Yeap it says a great deal

    5. A neighbour had a dog that was an escape artist-a malamute. One evening in the dark it was just standing there on a busy road looking at the car lights heading towards it.As I went out to help the young chap ran out too and called it safely away x

    6. Anonymous2:23 pm

flis - Winnie doesn't need to be an escape artist, the gate was open for her to just walk out onto the road.

    7. No-I'm quite sure it was closed as at a house here there was a similar situation-there was a doggy day care lady whose dogs got out and were all trotting off-I spotted them on my cctv and myself and several other people helped catch them and put them back in their garden-it was a dodgy faulty catch on their garden gate x

Irresponsible is the word that comes to mind. It's not the first time is it? Didn't you have a similar happening not long ago when one was out when you were coming home from work?
