Moody Cow

I wasn't going to blog today as I've started a run of night shifts
However my new postman ( who seems more cheerful and who is wonderfully bearded unlike my previous bad tempered old duffer) delivered a cushion in yesterday's post.
The cushion was handmade by Scarlett who thought it was apt for Winifred who, as you all may remember ,has a healthy dislike for all scatter cushions.
Thank you again Scarlett, I have written to you yesterday.
I was thrilled by it.

I have no other news. Save for the gut wrenching disappointment I have for my new frying pan which seems to encourage everything I try to cook to stick to it.
I know I need to get out more
Well I am trying xx

  1. I take it your new frypan doesn't have a non-stick coating? I wish I knew some tricks for you but I haven't used a regular frypan in decades.

That is a most excellent cushion! What a wonderful gift.

  4. Don't feel alone. We have a new toaster oven air fryer that was a dismal failure when I tried two recipes tonight.

    2. There's nothing wrong with blogging about a frying pan, we've all dealt with the frustration of a sticky one and I like reading stuff I relate to

  9. What a thoughtful gift! Wait, are you saying Winnie is a "Moody Cow"?! Not sweet little Winnie!

The new fry pan sticks? How awful. I hate to get a new pan and then discover it sticks. It's a letdown when that happens. (especially since they are so pricy)

  11. Rubbish pans are a bugbear of mine! I love a good saucepan, sad I know!

  12. Is it cast iron? Maybe it needs curing. Cast iron is the best but when I bought mine 25 years ago I had to burn off this yukky coating and cure it with oil and tings. Such a faff!

    1. That was my guess, as well!
Or, perhaps, John is trying to cook things too fast with too high of heat! Too often the fault lies with the cook and not the pan. Sorry, John!

  15. Like MrsC I was going to suggest that your pan might need seasoning. Link follows:

  16. I hope that you didn't spend too much on your new pan? I normally buy fairly cheap ( Tefal) non stick pans......they last a couple of years and then I buy another. Once upon a time I saw a beautiful red frying pan in J Lewis.......quite expensive, but I thought it would surely last. Did it heck! It lost it's non stick much sooner than the cheapo ones!

  17. Yup! You must get out more even if it is to buy an all singing, all dancing top of the range NON stick frying pan. Love the cushion, you are spoilt rotten Mr Gray... and rightly so!

  18. Forget coronavirus! There's nowt worse than a frying pan that causes food to stick to the surface of it! (Have you tried putting some oil in the pan before cooking something?)

    ReplyDelete
  19. John - whatever you intend to cook always put some rape seed (or similar) oil on a piece of kitchen paper and gently rub all over the bottom and up the sides of the pan before you start.

  20. if food is sticking, you are using it the wrong way. if food sticks to a non stick, the heat is too high. if food sticks to a stainless or iron pan, the heat is too low. you need high heat and fat for a steel or iron pan.oh, and one more thing. if you are cooking meat, don't move it around for a few minutes. let it form a crust and then it un-sticks on it's own.

Boy, can I commiserate over a ruined frying pan. When I finally found a good one, I was so sure my newly retired husband would do it in, it went to work with me every day.

  22. Don't feel bad about blogging about a frying pan. I read the few blogs I read because they are real. Within the last week I tossed one of my pans that had lived a good life of almost 10 years and I was pissed it was sticking. So I'd be really pissed if a new one did - bring that thing back! If the won't return your money tell them you shall post a poor review of the item and their service on your internationally read blog!!

What a perfect pillow for Winnie and well done, Charlotte!

Sorry for the pan surface that is causing food to stick. I was also going to suggest seasoning the pan and/or cooking at a lower temperature. Interesting to read the information in Jaz's comment.

    Hugs!

  28. Love the cushion … although I have a sneaking suspicious a certain Little Miss Winifred may trample it to death!!

My best ever frying pan, took a while to be properly non-stick, my secret was NEVER to wash it. I just wiped it out with kitchen roll while it was still hot after every use, and this was at a time when I ate copious amounts of bacon butties. It lasted me for years until I met Alan … and he washed it :-(

  29. I just got rid of three frying pans as food kept sticking. Now if I find my husband using metal utensils in the replacements and scratches the coating, there will be hell to pay!
