My sisters and I went to our first pottery class today and we started off with my request at potting my own little fat horse
So here is my very first little fat horse
not bad for a first attempt
Next week we are being taught how to throw and centre our clay on the potting wheel!
My sisters in full concentration mode
When I was busy potting , Winnie was opening up her wound with her strong back claws so I's missing choir in order to watch her after bandaging her back foot in a boxing glove
The horse is wonderful. I would love to care for Winnie, but I live in California.
ReplyDeletePromising! Do you know that the Great Pottery Throwdown is back on TV? One of my favourite progs.
ReplyDeleteI just want to sigh - Winnieeee
ReplyDeleteHe's got a very good head.
ReplyDeleteAnd the body?
DeleteMore of a Shetland pony.
DeleteThat was the look i was going for
DeleteYou got it spot on x
DeleteIt's a fierce head!
DeleteJust like a Przewalski! Well done. I did a brilliant horse in pottery class at school, but didn't get all the air bubbles out and it blew its head off in the kiln . . .
ReplyDeleteI hope you have mastered Winnie's clawing tendencies now!
Thank you for that visual - I needed a smile tonight :)
DeleteThe horse is fab...I used to love pottery when I was a child and have worked several times with potters during my working life. I cannot, however, throw a pot. The skill is beyond me. The most I can manage are coil pots. Exciting that you have found another string to your bow! Great idea about the boxing glove for Winnie; poor old girl, why is she scratching so badly??
ReplyDeleteJo in Auckland
That is lovely; you're a man of many talents!
ReplyDeleteYes, your horse has real personality. You may indeed have found a hidden talent. And I'm told that working with clay is very therapeutic. A good start to the New Year!
ReplyDeleteShe can't do that again-perhaps the foot covered will be enough and if not I think there are new donut shaped neck protectors. You really do have a talent there-you're a natural John x
ReplyDeleteSorry-what I have said may make wound worse,as I've googled it.A e collar one size up and back to front as a skirt and a t shirt is advised x
DeleteThat's a daring outfit for a wedding 😜
DeleteThis is an recovery aid for little Winnie Mavis, but it could possibly look quite fetching on a lady with heels and a facinator x
DeleteAnd no knickers for real fascination
DeleteMavis-"You are awful but I like you" x
DeleteThat's bloody good, especially since you have never modelled before. Make the next one a little fat arse?
ReplyDeleteP.S. Has it got an armature? I am guessing yes from the thinness of the legs.
Deleteno its self standing
Deletethe body is hollow and we hardened the legs with a hairdryer
praise from you is praise indeed x
Delete'My Little Pony'!
DeletePPS I used to deal in 1000 year-old Tang Horses. I made a bit of money from them with my Chinese friend. Yours reminds me of those stout little fellows.
DeleteA bit like Monet paintings, there are hundreds of genuine Tang horses around; several thousand of which are in England alone!
DeleteLove the horse - a hidden talent indeed.
ReplyDeleteits going to be blue
DeleteThat horse is wonderful... as are those sisters. Ohhhh Winnie!
ReplyDeleteLove the horse!!
ReplyDeleteHope Winnie gets better soon.
That horse is impressive. Well done! Will it be glazed and fired?
ReplyDeleteyes a blue glaze after drying out for a week
DeleteNice horse.. keep going!
ReplyDeleteThrowing on the wheel isn't everything, don't be disheartened if that doesn't 'click'... keep on with the horses
I want to continue with the sculptures
DeleteThat looks like fun! Well done on the horse. How wonderful that you and your sisters can do this together!
ReplyDeleteDo you think you will paint your horse? x
ReplyDeleteit will be glazed with a blue green glaze
DeleteI am thinking Terra Cotta Warriors and how many more horses you need to make for your grand send off decades from now.
ReplyDeleteYes! Those wonderful Terra Cotta warriors and horses!
DeleteYou have talent John~ I love them...
I was also thinking of the Terra Cotta Warriors.
DeleteThat amazing fat horse (or Shetland!) is actually your first effort. Well done!! Applause!
ReplyDeleteYesterday I nearly suggested you wrap Winnie's foot so she couldn't scratch her wound. In hospital before babies were old enough to have their fingernails trimmed, we put soft mittens on their hands so they couldn't scratch themselves.
Sorry you had to miss choir practice as that's a joy.
Hugs!
I needed to watch her shes removed the bandages twice now despite a ton of tape
DeleteThat is a wonderful first attempt - you've got its profile perfectly. The second photo with the piece of clay lying beneath your horse brought to mind my cousin when she was in first grade, many moons ago. They were to draw "what's missing" from pictures on a worksheet paper. There was a horse with three legs - but as a farm girl, she saw something else missing and drew it! And got a big red check mark.
ReplyDeleteI hope dear Winnie heals quickly.
lol many thanks
DeleteLove your horse. And the fun and the pride you so obviously found in it.
ReplyDeleteAnd hope you have foiled Winnie's self destructive endeavours.
well fingers crossed with winnie!
Deletehow clever and creative of you! and winnie is being naughty.
ReplyDeleteYour horse is impressive for a first attempt, I love the hogged mane too.
ReplyDeleteYou have talent!
ReplyDeleteThose animals will be the death of you
OH I love that little fat horse! You're very good! -Jenn
ReplyDeleteNot too bad an effort with the horse at all. Throwing clay on a wheel is great fun. Mastering it, not so much.
ReplyDeleteI truly love that little fat horse. What next? I have never given pottery a go but would love to.
ReplyDeleteBriony
x
Impressive! Looks very realistic.
ReplyDeleteSorry about Winnie. Good idea to disable her scratching apparatus. Poor girl.
That wee horse is adorbz. I dig the zebra as well. Looks like a ton of fun. x
ReplyDeleteI would totally display that horse because it has that certain artistic look to it. The sister with the glasses resembles you I think.
ReplyDeleteYou obviously have a flair for clay and sculpting! Looking forward to seeing your progress through the class!
ReplyDeleteFantastic first attempt John.
ReplyDeleteYour horse is delightful! It will be stunning with its blue green glaze. Hidden talent!
ReplyDeleteOK I love the Little Fat Horse ! ! ! and painted blue, even better ! I can['t wait to see what else you create.
ReplyDeleteI use to have my own klim and love pottery but I can not throw pots anymore. I only do slab work.
What a great first attempt. Next do a Winnie that would be adorable.
parsnip
And now for the moment of truth: one throws one's pot. Onto the very epicenter of one's wheel. --Margo Leadbetter.
ReplyDeleteI love little fat horse too ! Would one of those horrid cone of shame lampshade collars help Winnie leave her wound ? She would HATE it though x
ReplyDeleteSo talented. You should make more and you could sell the to all of your online friends. You could put the funds towards your holiday or all of the vets bills?
ReplyDeleteLimited editions of course. Numbered and signed by the potter. I'd buy one
DeleteWow! Excellent horse. It would defo make that chap on Pottery Throwdown cry (in a good way!) I can see a profitable hobby emerging, John - I’d buy one 😊
ReplyDeleteI love the horse. It reminds me, like TS said, of the Chinese Tang horses, something that I have always hankered after. (Is hanker actually a word?)
ReplyDeleteWas the music from Ghost playing in the background? maybe Winnie needs a cone?
ReplyDeleteThat looks great; well done!
ReplyDeleteHad to o giggle a this one. I am a saggitarian and short and fat. I can recall modelling for you😂
ReplyDeleteCannot not can
DeleteI truly loved your fat little horse.
ReplyDeleteI love it … a little horse that's eaten 10 too many Scotch eggs :-)
ReplyDeleteThat horse is lovely. I think you have an unsuspected talent!
