War
Disaster movies are few and far between, and it's been too long since my last " good" one despite my recent injection of the undead on fox
Thank goodness for Auntie BEEB who is presently screening its first " handsomely" made version of The War Of The Worlds. I've worked all weekend
So, it's time for a gin, a chicken sandwich and some good old fashioned alien disaster special effects
I hope you enjoy your well deserved gin, chicken and film. As I sit with my father in a hospice I am humbled and somewhat teary at the care all the hospice staff are giving us.
I was hoping this would replace my following of 'His Dark Materials' which I gave up on halfway through yesterday's episode, finding it too distressing to watch. (I've read twice the trilogy of books - and the Daniel Craig/Nicole Kidman film of the first book wasn't as dark as this version). But as to 'War', some of the above opinions seem to confirm my fears that this too will fall short of my hopes, so perhaps not, alas.
Ohhh love me some sci-fi disaster movies. So War of the Worlds in installments, huh? And I would like to watch the His Dark Materials series. I love those books!!
We gave up on His Dark Materials because we couldn't fathom what was going on. Sad but true. We enjoyed War of the Worlds, we don't normally watch stuff like that. I thought the exploding people part was cool. Could do with some of that in the government right now - I can think of several potential victims.

ohhh hoping to see this
ReplyDeleteWhat time was that on?
ReplyDeleteBBC1 9pm
DeleteA gentle rain falls softly on my weary eyes as if to hide a lonely tear.
ReplyDeleteGeorge could comfort any loneliness. That is until time morphs him into his father.
He's a looker
DeleteUntil he morphs into his father - ooh Mavis that was cruel!
DeleteCruelty is my bed mate 😉
DeleteJust watched it. It had the same meaningless fires dotted around with people aimlessly digging holes as Poldark. His Dark Materials is so much better.
ReplyDeleteI was slightly dissapointed
DeleteI watched it because it is set in the area I grew up in.
DeleteI was disappointed too and won't watch the rest of it.
DeleteI must say, that looks entertaining.
ReplyDeleteI like the monkey in his dark materials- it's all very weird x
ReplyDeleteEnjoy it all! The chicken, the gin and the TV show!
ReplyDeleteI remember the first film with Gene Barry (?) terrified me for months but I couldn't come at watching the Tom Cruise version. Did anyone watch that?
ReplyDeleteI found the Cruise film forgettably mediocre despite its illustrious director, and thought the 1953 version better.
DeleteI really liked the soundtrack in the Tom Cruise one x
DeleteI remember the Gene Berry movie just the best. Tom Cruise ruined every movie he is in for me. This one was just a train wreck.

ReplyDeleteWhat sort of gin?
ReplyDeleteCheap
DeleteIf it's the same one that's been on here in France, I watched two episodes and couldn't take it any more. Very disappointed.

ReplyDeleteI didn't know what was going on in his dark materials either Jean but it was a bit different from my usual and is very atmospheric x
ReplyDeleteYou should watch The Golden Compass which gives insight into the Darker Materials series.
DeleteThanks Mavis-think I've got the book somewhere x

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the series, as it played here last month and I just sat down this weekend to watch it. Well done BBC.
