It makes my heart ache. I felt something similar and I imagine you can somewhat relate. Thankfully the past but the songs brings it forward in a tangible way.
She will always be one of my admired actresses for this scene alone. The end, where she rejoins her family with a smile plastered on her sniffling face, breaks my heart every time I watch it.
I nearly mentioned this clip, to tie in with my picture.... But couldnt,. gulp.... another knot in the heart that weaves beautifully with the blog hwyl Suz x
Antidote: Remember him as Professor Snape (in all but the last one). AND Liam Neeson recently said he wanted to go out and beat up a black man once because his friend was mugged by a dark-skinned person. Happy Christmas Mr Lawrence.
I remember this scene like it was yesterday how easily the husband was trapped by a younger woman who knew what she was doing, stupid old fool to let it happen, unfortunately it so often does. I'm sorry John that this song has stuck a cord and I feel where you are coming from, melancholy hits us at different times a song can make us sad or happy, belt out those African songs from the choir and let the music take you to another place.
Emma Thompson says that of all the films she's made, that's the moment fans mention when they meet her. Heartbreaking moment. I wouldn't have behaved so classy.
Ohh this is one of the few xmas films I really like. Not too cloying and very... human? This scene wrecks me, though. Funny you posted this and I was mentioning you and exes in my post today. Haha. Oh, life.
This scene breaks my heart every. single. time and reminds me of a very similar moment in my life. Truly outstanding actress and beautiful but heartbreaking song

It's become my 'must see' Christmas film. It comes from a great era of British film making.
