A Midsummer Night's Dream

The finale was somewhat unexpected but proved to be rather lively
I enjoyed the bawdy youthful exuberance of the Off The Ground Theatre Company in Prestatyn tonight
Shakespeare,in my mind is at its best when comic and light

I can't be arsed with the heavy stuff
Happy Yorkshire Day btw xx

  1. I did not recognize that as Shakespeare, but it was upbeat.

    1. Shakespear wouldn't have recognised it either

  2. I quickly found from experience that on these evening outdoor entertainments one soon wishes for a blanket, unless it was especially warm (which it may well have been for you) - as well as something soft and bouncy to sit on.

Midsummer N.D., of which I've seen more than a few productions, can stand or fall on the strength of its Bottom. The best Bottom I ever saw was that of the late Richard Griffiths. Trust you too had a good one.

And btw: 'Yorkshire Day'? As someone who also grew up in that thar splendid county I fail to recognise the term.

  3. I have never understood a word of Shakespeare. I managed an O level in English Lit without even knowing what the plot of Henry IV Part 2 was about, our set work. I doubt if it was comic and light whatever.

  4. I'm not so keen on the historical plays, but it's dry and there are no midges even they are bearable!

  5. That looks fun. That's the great thing about Shakespeare's plays - they're so versatile.

    1. 'Versatile' was precisely the word I WAS going to use in my comment, above, too.

  6. Definitely unlike any Shakespeare I've ever seen. Love the Bollywood atmosphere!

  7. I still remember the tv programme about Shakespeare, with a well known director working with local groups from a huge housing estate in Birmingham...each taking a different short excerpt of Shakespeare's writing to work on. Because they all were using the local, Black Country dialect, accent, speech patterns...Shakespeare's writing came alive and scanned perfectly.

  8. Great! I haven’t seen a Shakespeare production in years. The last was at Sane Diego’s Old Globe Theatre, a bizarre production where characters all wear costumes from different eras... like the 1990s. As if the dialog isn’t hard enough to follow.
