I had just settled down with Eurovision when there was a knock on the back door.
It was a girl from London road with a laundry basket.
" Have you got a black cat with a bit of white on him?" She asked seriously
A small still figure in the basket was covered with a towel
"He was just hit by a car!"
The dogs started to crowd around
I took a deep breath
It wasn't Albert, it was an older cat with more white on him than Albert's tiny white chest star, he looked peaceful
I told the girl I would post her find on the village website forum and she left still sad.

I was watching the Netherlands' melancholic entry when finally Albert walked into the living room after a day who knows where.......he sideswiped Mary purely out of devilment and she fell from the couch with a bang
He head rubbed each of the dogs in turn then grazed my cheek with his forehead in an awkward hello
And for a moment I found myself shedding the briefest of tears.
These animals will be the death of me
bless albert.
ReplyDeleteDammit John, I hate rollercoasters! But glad Albert managed to stay out of trouble for one more night.
ReplyDeleteOh John, I'm glad it wasn't Albert, but sad for the owner, whoever it is.
ReplyDeleteAww, thank goodness he came home unscathed, but someone in the village will be very sad nevertheless.
ReplyDeleteOur cats are in and out also, our neighbor let us know, she had spotted a coyote running though the yard last night, and now I'm faced with a dilemma :(

I never let my cats out. I live in coyote , mountain lion, bobcat and fox country. Coyotes can jump any fence and are gone before you know it.
DeleteI understand that Albert lives out in the country but too many friends have lost cats by car, dogs too. Good luck

Oh they don't half pull at the heart strings! Sad for the little cat and its owner.
ReplyDeleteThe visitor we cat owners all dread. Happened to us. Glad it wasnt Albert but once it was our Mabel.
ReplyDeleteWe are having a spate of moggies being run over at the moment. We are constantly having a count up of our respective felines make sure none are missing. Must admit I shared a tear or two with you. Hugs.xxx
ReplyDeleteGlad that the girl was out looking for the owners of the older cat. I love a black cat. Your Albert looks lovely.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fright that must have been. And what a kind person to pick the cat up and go looking for the owner.
ReplyDeleteYes bless her

ReplyDeleteI'm sîck of them

ReplyDeleteOh, John!

ReplyDeleteThere are cats who absolutely will not live indoors. I died a thousand deaths there with you, John. May your dear Albert live to a ripe old age. Here I am, in my ripe old age, finally having an indoors cat. She won't even try to go outside. She's Albert's twin except for that!
ReplyDeletePhew! What a relief that Albert is hale and hearty! I'm sorry for whoever lost their cat and am glad for the kindness of that little girl who was trying to find the cat's owner. How sweet to have it cradled in the laundry basket, too.
ReplyDeleteWe have coyotes here in Virginia and can hear them howling in the night.
Hugs!

ReplyDeleteThe photo and the start of the post gave me some trepidation.
ReplyDeleteI thought your kitty was an indoor kitty?
That should have been stressful!
XoXo
I lose as much sleep over my animals as I do kids and grandkids with worrying.
ReplyDeleteThey can quite easily bring the tears on.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! So grateful it was not Albert but sad for whoever it was.
ReplyDeleteAnd the worst part is that even if it turns out okay, the stress and adrenaline that comes with a scare still affects a person, and it's cumulative when it happens over and over in a relatively short time frame. Glad Albert is okay, bless his stinkin' little heart. And bless that girl for trying to find the owner of the kitty who wasn't as lucky.
ReplyDeleteWhat a kind thing for the girl to do. I'm glad Albert is okay, but how sad for the other cat's family.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you John.
On my early morning walk yesterday, I found a beautiful big Tabby dead on the road. I asked around a bit, but no-one seemed to know who it had belonged to. I moved it to the side of the road; there wasn't much else I could do. RIP.
ReplyDeleteMuch sadder to hear about the unlucky pussycat than all those (to me) undeserving Eurovision entries getting through to the final while (to me) more worthy ones like Ireland and Latvia failed. A different kind of tears. However, both Denmark and San Marino are through so all is not lost - yet.
ReplyDeleteA heart in throat moment glad Albert is ok but sad for the other cat Lovely of the young girl to be so gentle and wrap it up in a basket.
ReplyDeleteSo sad for the other cat but at the same time such a relief that it wasn't Albert. Glad he came in and put your mind at rest. Our animals give us such rewards but also such worry.
ReplyDeleteI guess the residents of Trelawnyd often bring injured creatures to Dr Doolittle's corner cottage. As they walk past, they might hear you singing:-
ReplyDeleteIf I could talk to the animals, just imagine it
Chatting to a chimp in Chimpanzee
Imagine talking to a tiger, chatting to a cheetah
What a neat achievement that would be!
That is why I don't have a cat John (well that and the sheer fact that cats are top of Tess's hate list).
ReplyDeleteLast year our neighbour phoned and asked us to go and check the road for her, driving along she had spotted what she thought was a black cat completely squashed and thought it to be hers as he had been missing for a couple of days. Me and Alan walked along the road but on closer inspection it turned out to be one of our large Black Maran hens ... how she fell through he hedge we'll never know. But it's always a worry living near a road.
ReplyDeleteI hope the cat's owner is found, it's better to know it's dead than worry for weeks over it being missing I guess.
Thank goodness it wasn't Albert! But my heart goes out to whoever the cat belongs to.
ReplyDeleteLove Albert's devilment, bet Mary doesn't though!
I'm glad I knew the outcome ahead of time, but this post still made me catch my breath.
ReplyDeletePHEW! Too close for comfort!!
