The weather has been wet today
I'm on nights.
I watched a couple of films this afternoon.
A so-so Australian zombie movie Plague and a worthy civil rights flick Hidden Figures
I'm listening to David Sedaris
I found his rather moving comments about his husband rather painful to listen to.
There is a rainbow over the village and one base of it is perched over The Still House making it look even cuter than than it usually does
Old Trevor rang, he's been to outpatients today....I can stop giving him his daily injections
I've done them for the past seventy days or so.
He's the only person I have spoken to today
Albert is stiff but fine

DeleteYou are obviously like me John - I have to speak to at least one person every day - and I don't just mean say hello - a conversation. Then I am set up for the day. A day speaking to no one makes me too introspective.

ReplyDeleteI listened to David Sedaris too. He's great. I was a bit disappointed with the old joke about the elderly parents divorcing after their children die, though. Makes me wonder about the rest of his material's authenticity.

ReplyDeleteThe still house is one if the oldest houses in the village. It was associated with production of wine and brewing . It lies in the centre of the village next to the old well

DeleteThe book Hidden Figures was excellent. A bit of a tougher read due to the technical explanations but the upside of that is that I came away with a new appreciation of what it took to get man into space and how critical the work was of those women of colour.
ReplyDeleteMy mom goes out for coffee every day and it's not for the coffee, it's for the social contact. I think most of us need that; the difference is just the frequency. I could go days before needing it, but eventually I still do.

Was the breaking of the coloureds only toilet sign real ?
DeleteI didn't see the movie, and I don't remember this incident being in the book, but here's a related quote from a website that compares books and the movies made from them:

Despite this quote, my own impression from reading the book was that while the women didn't face as much racism and segregation at work as the movie portrays, in real life they did in fact go home each day to communities that were very segregated and this impacted their lives in many ways, as you can imagine. And "not as much racism" is still not a thing to be touted. "No racism" would be best.
Sorry for getting long-winded, but as I couldn't answer your question directly, I took the long way around!

DeleteHow's your chest? Doing nights when you are poorly is the worst... seems to make one feel more awful. Glad that Albert is a bit stiff.. might make him realise that he is not bullet proof!!

ReplyDeleteI admire your appetite for so many films. I seldom watch more than one film a day. I find that if I watch more than one I don't watch the others with the same concentration and intensity and I tend to miss a lot of details.
