Daffodils on my field wall this morning
On Monday I had a meeting with a couple of members of the dynamic Trelawnyd Community Association.
On the back of huge successes with inititives such as the village youth club, coffee mornings, fund raising and the like, the association has turned it's attention into resurrecting the flower show and so have come to me as a sort of technical advisor.
Last year I resigned from the Flower Show Committee on the back of putting the cottage up for sale and moving away . As everyone knows best laid plans never quite work out they way you think they would and now a year later and for the time being I'm still here, but my resignation prompted the old committee to leave the Show too, and leave it on a high.
Now a new committee want to resurrect the Show albeit in a new form and I'm glad.
I'm glad that the baton is being passed on
I look forward in entering
Good news. We await the glorious pics which are sure to come.
ReplyDeleteHope those daffs ('happy' flowers) and their successors will survive the forecast drop in temps. They ought to as it looks like the true icy blasts should be over now.
It's nice to be wanted and you clearly are. I know your knowledge will make the show a success.
ReplyDeleteLovely photo.

So glad you are still at your cottage and I hope that you will be able to stay for as long as you want to. Bringing the flower show back will be lovely and you can still be part of it, without the responsibility of running it. I wonder if you have renewed your lease on your field??? Do hope so. I would love to hear that you have got the Ukranian Village up and running again with some more hens. What happened to the cockerels by the way??
ReplyDeleteI have the money set aside for the field rent but the estate agents have been slow this year sending out the papers.....the cockerels are mighty fine..they have just been to the back door from scraps
DeleteGood job too. Let there be a new Flower Show.
ReplyDeleteIndeed! Onwards and upwards
DeleteYour stalkers and interested people did not find it hard to find your house up for sale. It is hard to imagine John Gray of Wales in any other place than Trew.......whatever, without his dogs and cat. Community building in Tre??? sounds good. I hope the flower show comes to fruition.
ReplyDeleteI will find it hard to leave but I may have to andrew
DeleteBeing on the 'front lines' was good but now you can enjoy the 'show' from wherever you want.
ReplyDeleteIndeed...and a little bit of me wants to see them do well but not as well as I did x
Deletelol! I love your honesty, John. You say what most of us would think and never admit to. And that makes me, at least, feel better :)
DeleteI hope with all my heart John (unless of course you decide you wish to leave the village) that you find a way of staying where you are so loved.
ReplyDeleteI have to look at alternatives pat
DeleteMany of us wondered, why there were not new volunteers for the flower show, and here they are.
ReplyDeleteI was very touched in some ways when all ten of the old committee resigned with me....
DeleteThey showed how weakness.
DeleteGet those seeds sown!!! :)
ReplyDeleteDone already x
DeleteI needed that picture today. We are getting walloped with another snow storm, another 10 inches of snow.
ReplyDeleteAll the best, John.
It's been almost summer weather here, very odd for Feb
DeleteThose are pretty! They always lift my spirits because then i KNOW winter is going.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, best laid plans.... Are you going to still do your garden though?
XOXO
The allotment you mean? Yes I think so
DeleteFor different reasons than yours, I have several times been in suspension for a year or more, not knowing if I will be staying in my home and community or moving, not knowing if I can remain a writer or must take a job with an actual predictable paycheck. Even while still living in the beloved community, I would begin divorcing myself from a formerly beloved home and community. It was a protective adaptation, part of accepting what might come. I hate to see you or anyone else in that predicament. I'm so happy that the new flower show committee demonstrates their recognition of what you have contributed, and you can now participate as a contestant and community member while final decisions about your domicile are thrust on you.
ReplyDeleteLinda I recognise your ambivalence and am suffering from it at the moment
DeleteEvery Good Village needs a Flower Show. Wonder if you will be asked to do the photo competition again
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the new organiser will have the balls x
DeleteI want to join the conga line of congratulations!
ReplyDeleteAlso adding I am mad-jealous as I love daffodils and don't got any.
Trendy Carol planted a few there years ago and they have blossomed
DeleteWhy do I have a feeling that your participation in the flower show will go farther than simply entering?
ReplyDeleteNo I probably won't be living in the village then x
DeleteOh good! I'm glad to know it will continue! But to echo Ms. Moon, somehow I feel like you're going to wind up running it again.
ReplyDeleteNo steve, I've been pretty strong about not taking anything on
DeleteYou done good, John.
ReplyDeletei'm deciding whether it is time to leave my home of 30 years and downsize so this doesn't all fall on my kids shoulders. it is such a painful process. i can't imagine being forced out.
ReplyDeleteI just want the safety of a roof of my own x
DeleteI had a feeling it would be back x
ReplyDeleteExcellent to have interest in the flower show resuming in some form and good of you to share your expertise gleaned over many years of flower shows! Time will tell if you're drawn to do more than enter. ;)
ReplyDeleteThose daffodils are putting on quite a lovely show of their own!
Hugs!
Yes they are cheerful
DeleteDaffodils are wonderfully cheerful. I read somewhere the bulbs sold as King Alfred are not the true King Alfred. Is this correct do you know? Nobody knows what I'm talking about in N. America. They were a favourite of a now deceased Uncle who was a superb gardener.
ReplyDeleteMy grandad grew daffs en masse... they were spectacular. He also grew Dahlias, I was not as fond of them as when I was a child I pulled one down to smell and got showered with earwigs!

I hereby forward my nomination for The New Trelawnyd Flower Show Secretary. It's Johnathan Claude Leonard Babbington Gray of Bwthyn Y llan (Old Dog House) Cottage on Cwm Road. All those in favour say "Aye!"
ReplyDeleteLove daffodils. Good that the flower show will continue with a new team!
ReplyDeleteLovely show of daffs.
ReplyDeleteMoving should never be rushed.
It's good that others have stepped up to resurrect the flower show - that it's important enough in other peoples' lives to put forth the time and energy on it. And it's also good that you can conserve your own time and energy at a difficult point in your life and still be able to enjoy the show. I do hope your living arrangements will work out as you wish. It must be a continual drain on your reserves to be in that limbo.
ReplyDeleteI am sure you will enjoy your role as a contributor and not an organizer. However, if you are able to stay in your home in the coming years, I wouldn’t be surprised to hear of you having more involvement.
ReplyDeleteI am often inspired by you John....the carrying on and continuing with things.....Limboland is no place to be x
ReplyDeleteText me
DeleteIf the power of thought could sort out the arrangments, to allow you to stay at the cottage with the 4 legged family members, and all be safe and settled then believe me dear friend, all of us on here who love and support you would make it happen.
ReplyDeleteLet's all channel our thoughts to let John and the gang STAY PUT, where they should be, and deserves to be!!!
Love Tess xx
Entering who?
ReplyDeleteWas so happy when it looked like you were staying in the cottage...but now, I am embracing the idea of you leaving! New place, new people, new memories. The people in your village are wonderful and they will remain wonderful when you leave. I am afraid you will continue to live in the shadow of the life you had there.
ReplyDeleteUnderstood x
DeleteCould you rent out a room to a lodger or do air BNB. Jac x
DeleteI love those daffodills. Wish we had them here.
ReplyDeleteDaffodils. Sorry for the misspelling.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure when this started, but many road/hedge works in Wales have daffodils planted as part of the works. New verges, by-passes, roundabouts - daffodils are everywhere. But it is our national flower!
DeleteJust back from sams shift....thank you all for comments xx
ReplyDeleteDaffodils always make me think of my sister. She regularly bought them at the subway station florist on her way home from work. Sweet, sweet memories, and her favorite flower.
ReplyDeleteYour Daffodilsmade me remember a trip to the Lake Distict whwere I saw fields of them just like the poem they have always been a favorite of mine.
ReplyDeleteI do hope you will be able to enter the flower show this year John and still be a part of your lovely community, still if you have to move with your warm personality you will make friends where ever you go
it will feel bitter sweet I'm sure but who knows it could be exciting as well. I wish I had a magic wand to make all your dreams come true.
Perfection. And they can learn a lot from you.
ReplyDeleteHope you're okay. A day without a new post from you is very akin to a day without sunshine.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
John,
ReplyDelete“Dodd Gayle Dewi Hapus”
Autocorrect, very tricky.....I will try again.
ReplyDelete“Dydd Gwyl Dewi Hapus”
Hope your okay and just having a breather. Missing seeing your daily blog x
ReplyDeleteHappy St. David's Day to you too. Thinking of you dear John, hoping all is well and the future looks clearer, brighter. Take care,
ReplyDeleteIt will be nice to enter and visit as an entrant, and not have all that stress rounding everyone up.
