So forgive the sound quality .....I've got an idea for the field this year.....this is a translation
I'm planning to open up the attotments again but instead of keeping the plots all for myself I aim to open them up to the village so anyone can have their own plot on loan .
No sub letting that's not allowed, but I think a few more fellow veg growers and the subsequent camaraderie will be a good step forward
Ps. D Hovestad.........thank you xxx
I know I’m deaf, but I couldn’t hear a blooming word!?! Boy, do you look rough, I know what the solicitor said... but still...
ReplyDeleteKeep warm and stay indoors lad.
LXX
Lol thanks.....that made me feel better
DeleteWhat a great idea. As an allotmentor (is that even a word?) vegging growing tends to bring out the best in people plus, if you believe all the frightening media Brexit coverage, that we'll all be starving shortly, you might get quite a few takers!
ReplyDeleteI've designed a poster for the hall and notice boards , I hope I can offer around 20 plots
DeleteYou used to video yourself with a helicopter going overhead. Now you have a rocket taking off out of shot.
ReplyDeleteThought you'd like the homage to the past
DeleteThat was a Saturn 5, wasn't it?
DeleteThat sounds like a good plan! Hope your throat improves soon!
ReplyDeleteI used to have an allotment and you’re right, there can be great camaraderie amongst allotmenteers. Especially, in a village like yours! Hope you’re feeling better soon!
ReplyDeleteThank u
DeletePerfect plan, wish I lived in the village.
ReplyDeleteThere are cottages to rent on London road
DeleteThat is a great idea, John. Years ago, when we did not have space to plant a veg garden, a nice gentleman who had a acre or so of land he was not using offered it up in parcels to anyone who wanted it for a garden. He charged a nominal fee and cleared and turned over the soil. We had a great time, got bushels of food and learned a lot from our fellow five gardeners. The generosity of this man had a great influence on me and my love of gardening.
ReplyDeleteI won't charge ....
DeleteCommunity allotments -- great idea! Man, what a vicious wind!
ReplyDeleteA great idea and an ideal opportunity for swapping produce, although the thought of a huge glut of courgettes might be a bit worrying based on last summer's output. Alison from Shropshire.
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful idea.
ReplyDeleteThanks yael
DeleteYep, definitely windy there. But a really good idea especially if there are no other allotments in the village
ReplyDeleteSOunds like a good plan, John.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant idea John. I don't think you'll be short of takers. It might even trigger off a mini, just for locals, fruit and veg show :-)
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of the allotment! Might try my hand at something!
ReplyDeleteI've put you on my list ...I have seven villagers so far
DeleteWe had an allotment when my son was little, hard work but great fun. It's brilliant just enjoying growing your own fruit and veg and you do meet some lovely people. It's a fab idea John. Take care of yourself my lovely, better days are ahead xx
ReplyDeleteThat's why we love ya, young man.
ReplyDeleteYou need a big mugful of hot honey, lemon and whisky, sipped sitting on the sofa with a big blanket and assorted dogs/cat as furry water bottles. The community allotment idea is a great one, for you as well as the villagers.
ReplyDeleteLove and hugs to you John.....I have been following your progress over the last few months, sending out lots of healing to you along the way. You are a good man, my friend, and you will enjoy the allotment project, of that I am sure. vx
ReplyDeleteThank you Vera......I'm trying x
DeleteWhat a brilliant idea! I hope you're feeling better again soon. xx
ReplyDeleteSorry?
ReplyDeleteIt did sound as if jets were taking off in your vicinity. Blustery day, indeed, and you really should have been indoors, you know. That poor throat won't get better if you don't take care of yourself.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to make allotments in the field! It will be good productive fun and hard work but with yummy rewards for all.
Hugs!
A bit more company on the field = more stories for us.
ReplyDeleteMethod in the madness xx
DeleteThat sounds awesome!
ReplyDeleteYou’ll probably have takers right away.
XoXo
I think I'm looking to the company, I'm tired now of feeling isolated
DeleteSage tea, Elderberry Rob or Blackcurrant Crème de Cassis with hot water just before going to bed will help ease the throat. In my Nan's Day she would have prescribed a sweaty sock wrapped round your neck overnight to keep it warm. (Not something I would try I don't think) the logic being to keep the affected area warm. Scarf might be better. However when anything to do with my throat I do use Elderberry Rob or preferably the Crème de Cassis just before going to bed which does tend to ease things. Either that or a hot toddy with whisky, orange or lemon juice and honey and hot water. I am not really a whisky fan and prefer the Cassis. However both work. Think opening up little gardening plots is a super idea especially as there are usually more people who want the plots than are actually available, and would make a lot of people happy. Shame I do not live in the village. In reality take care of yourself xx
ReplyDeleteI'll try anything l. I'm a little tired of feeling unwell x
DeleteAre you allowed to dig the field up?
ReplyDeleteYes it's on the deeds
DeleteI'm glad the letter made it to you. Sharing an allotment to grow veg seems like a wonderful idea. Take care.
ReplyDeleteSo it was from you! Thank you! George's vets bills ✔️
DeleteYou're welcome sweetie.
DeleteBrilliant idea!
ReplyDeleteFor a sore throat and chest congestion, my husband swore by a shot of Vodka ,a soft wool scarf around his neck and as much sleep as he could get.
Those crazy Russian genes!
PS
DeletePlant marigolds all around the edges of the garden
Insect control:)
I used to plant them in between my cabbage rows on the old bosoms
DeleteWonderful idea. Indoors now John and keep warm , drink plenty and get well soon xx
ReplyDeleteOh poor baby. I've never lost my voice, which is disappointing to those around me I'm sure. That sounds... I'm sorry that READS like a good idea. Hope you feel better!
ReplyDeleteHad to laugh at that. It's hopeless trying to make videos in the wind, I've binned many. Good idea for the allotments. You could open up your garden and sell refreshments to make a bit of money on the side.
ReplyDeleteI think John is more likely to keep the allotment people supplied with refreshments free of charge. His kind and generous nature isn't likely to change with the sharing of his land. Besides which, those people are going to be his friends from the village.
DeleteOne lady who has already shown an interest today is a much better baker than I
DeleteNo need to tell me that XX, I read his blog regularly, and it was a tongue in cheek comment. You don't think I meant it, do you? John and I are two of a kind, we both give freely and generously.
DeleteHa ha Manqueen, nothing like blowing your own trombone!
DeleteAs I don't know you I wouldn't have had a clue whether you meant it or not.
I don't know about the two of a kind either, I do know that John does lots of generous and kind things that he doesn't proclaim about on here.
Absolutely nothing wrong with your baking John, scrumptious!
DeleteGive it a rest xx. Are you the troll that keeps following me around. Your life must be very sad.
DeleteGreat idea! You could keep bees and chickens on there too! (I'm getting ahead of myself) :) x
ReplyDeleteI need to find out if I am staying in the cottage so that will only happen towards the divorce ......only if and then will the animals be returned
DeleteA +++ idea. This will be my 19th year at a community garden nearby (too much shade here at home).
ReplyDeleteI cannot and would not sub let any land it would just be viewed informally
DeleteWe are "blown away" like the sound by the idea. I wish I lived nearby.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteIt looked like your camera was slowly blowing away near the end! What a windy day. I do hope you shake that cold soon, and what a wonderful idea to allot the field - it will be good for all of the takers, plus you.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a most excellent idea. When you finally stop catching every virus/ailment going by I will know you have turned a big corner emotionally as well.
ReplyDeletePlease look after yourself.
Yes.... I know why I'm catching everything is going....when I'm happier I'll be healthier
DeleteHello John what a fantastic idea for the field. You sure know how to give life and love and I hope you enjoy the projectx I wish I lived in your village but I have plans for my new small garden so will let you know how I get on x hugs to you and the furries x

ReplyDeleteI've done too many things in isolation over the years which is ok when you have someone coming home to you at the end of the day
DeleteYes I know the bitterness of having nobody to come home to and I am familiar with the taste of salt water tears along with three suicide attempts which I was crap at but I go on believing somebody out there loves me x hugs x
DeleteBrillliant idea John. See my today's post for support.
ReplyDeleteI have read your post and understood where you are coming from
DeleteI think that’s a class idea. Will it take much money to set it up ? Just thinking fencing raised beds etc . Crowdfunding possibly?
ReplyDeleteEither way it’s inclusive and very typical of you, me dear xx
No money required just leg work
DeleteNope, can't hear a thing but the roar of the wind.
ReplyDeleteYup, that's a really great idea.
I cant speak clearly now, so it was fortuitous
DeleteBrilliant idea and you can all swop veggies.
ReplyDeleteBriony
x
I've put my idea on the village website and already have 8 people interested
DeleteA brilliant idea ! An ideal project for you to get involved in. Look after yourself John, keep cosy.
ReplyDeleteI don't care if you wear scarves or drink coffee by the bucket, just hang in there.
ReplyDeleteXo
What if you have to move? How does the field stand legally with people with allotments on it?
ReplyDeleteNo it dies with me rachel....I'm hoping I am staying
DeleteBut it will be paid up until 2020
Take care with it.
DeleteFantastic idea. We have an allotment, Father in law has the next plot. He lost his wife this year, but he is part of 'the boys club' who meet up for a regular chat, help each other out and often just pop down there for the company. Do hope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeletebeing deaf it made no difference to me, but I get the gist, what a generous and fun idea - this will become a great community, an excuse for bbq and booze, plant sharing, crop sharing, endless possibilities - good luck - I only wish I was local and could join in.
ReplyDeletep.s. someone is going to make a fortune out of building wind breakers.
ReplyDeleteListening to that, I kept looking around for the runway.
ReplyDeleteHonest it was the wind
DeleteSorry to hear you're still under the weather, John, hope that clean, strong wind helped blow away at least some of the bad bits. I got this bug the day after New Year's, very suddenly, at the three p.m., was perfectly ok, by four my chest was on fire, sneezing, my nose was streaming, was aching and shivering all over, I was shocked at how sudden it was. Anyway, after a couple of hours of feeling very sorry for myself, I texted a friend to thank her for her great gift of passing this filthy germ to me (she was ill for days, not very kind, am I?!) and she suggested that I knock myself out with a hot toddy and to quit whinging:( I did take her advice and carefully cut up a lemon, put in a pint glass with several cloves, sugar and almost boiling water. I then added whiskey, but forgot it was a pint glass I wasn't well!) and filled it up to the top, must have been about six measures of whiskey in there, and I HATE whiskey it is the most disgusting thing in the world - but didn't want to waste the lemon etc, so sat down and drank it as fast as I could, keeping my mouth wide open between slurps so that I wouldn't taste it, and finally got it all down. It took about twenty minutes till I knew I was very, VERY drunk, just made it to my bed, remember nothing else till I woke up, fourteen hours later and my chest was fine, no burning, no sneezing, just a bit of a runny nose - and NO hangover! I don't even drink spirits as a rule, but it didn't do me any harm though I still hate whiskey! If you try it, make sure you are all prepared for bed, so if drunkenness hits you, you can just crash:) Allotments is a great idea and obviously popular already, should be great fun out there in the summer, non-stop party time! We'll all turn up in a char-a-banc to sample the produce, bbq etc., watch out! Take very good care of that throat bug, and lots of big hugs and love to you and the furry babies, Terry in Reigate
ReplyDeleteOh poor you John, picking up all the bugs going at the moment. Laryngitis is the pits I had it earlier in 2018 and just couldn't speak at all; I am not the silent type so it was very difficult! Allotments are great fun, my grandad had one back in the early 70's in Hants, he grew all manner of lovely stuff. Kept us in green veg all year round. Hope you recover soon, lots of hot toddies and fur baby hugs will help.
ReplyDeleteJo in Auckland
Given your financial worries would it be possible to sell the field as a building plot? You would need to investigate planning permission.
ReplyDeleteIt's only rented YP
DeleteOh. That's a shame.
DeleteI got the last word, I think. Was it "idea"?
ReplyDeleteConcord has done an fly by
ReplyDeleteExcellent. As I am deaf I didn't bother with the video. Be well soon.
ReplyDeleteFabulous idea. Hope you feel better soon
ReplyDeleteA great idea !!
ReplyDeleteWill the flower and produce show be reborn ?
ReplyDeleteWonderful idea! And is the soil enriched from all the chicken and pony and sheep poop? hehe
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! The allotments, not the voiceover in a gale :) I am sure we all look forward to following how it develops.
ReplyDelete"Bosons" ? Did you mean "Bossoms" which I thought was the name of the allotment.... Just wondering.
ReplyDeleteThat is a brilliant idea. Keep safe.x
ReplyDeleteWhat? What did you say John? Or as we say in Canada... EH??? :)
ReplyDeleteThat's quite a strong wind blowing John, the allotment shating seems like a good idea and you could barter some of your produce or set up a roadside stall.
ReplyDeleteMargo reminds me of my days as a child growing in North Carolina with a grandfather who could always be found on his tractor working on his garden
ReplyDeleteFields of corn and rows of tomatoes and being conscripted into field hand status picking tomatoes and corn.
Then -I hated it
Today-I would enjoy it. Especially if it was my own garden.
And my cousins and I would try to sell the late summer produce that we picked :)
