In tears now as I was ages ago when I saw Jimmy Stewart read this wonderful poem on the Johnny Carson show. Thinking now of our beloved Shep, Punkin, Daisy, and Toby as well as your sweet William.
Old dogs are the best dogs. There is an unspoken language as you both know each other’s habits and the nuances. Jimmy Stewart grew up not far from me and we visited a statue and museum dedicated to him a few weeks ago. Indiana, Pennsylvania
I couldn't watch it as we're spending our Maggie's days keeping her comfortable, but I've seen (and cried over) this gem many times. Remembering Rascal, Cindy, Buffy, and still loving on our Maggie.
Did me in too John .. as i have an old 17 yr old cat that has been with me all these years and i can see his life drawing to a close. He's aged in te last month or so.. Where he was once too heavy with a thick glossy coat.. i can now see his old bones poking through.. And his once bright golden eyes that never missed anything have gotten cloudy.. I will miss my Jinx so very much and you have allowed me to shed a tear for him..quite a few if truth be told and he's not even gone yet.. Hugs! deb
Love, love, love Jimmy Stewart in any case. And that VOICE! In the Disney movie Fievel goes west (An American Tail) he did the voice over for the ancient old dooooggg and he was brilliant. Lovely poem isn't it. Sorry I missed you this weekend John. Back at home in France now. Anna
Sobbing now for all the ones we've lost. But, Jimmy Stewart was a brilliant actor and apparently a really lovely man, no airs and graces when he found fame.
Remembering all my lost furry friends and cuddling into the ones I have left. It shows how much we love them ... to let them break our hearts one day ♥️
I had an emotionally difficult day and I didn’t trust my heart to listen to Jimmy Stuart’s poem right now. Maybe tomorrow. I remember seeing this on The Johnny Carson show many years ago.
I hadn't heard that before, so the end caught me unawares. Now sobbing for my beloved Zac and remembering Todd, Bess, Shan, Tan and Toby, all sharing my life over the past 60+ years since I was 11 years old.

ReplyDeleteBig hugs to you as you remember, too.
Wonderful. Tears in my eyes at the end. For all the wonderful companions we’ve shared our lives with, I give thanks

ReplyDeleteHeck.....did me in. I thought we were going for light-relief for at least a little while? Wasn’t expecting that. Very heartfelt.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this lovely poem I heard it on the Johnny Carson show many years ago I cried then and again now.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the picture, too. You know. William.
ReplyDeleteThat voice!
ReplyDeleteI had no intention of watching a four minute clip of Stewart talking but in seconds I was hooked. So very moving.
ReplyDeleteIt caught me too

cheers, parsnip
So sorry, Gayle, take comfort in knowing you loved and pampered Truffles, and made each right decision,as hard as that must have been. -Mary
DeleteSo sorry to hear this Parsnip 😔
DeleteWell he's made us cry enough times in 'It's a Wonderful Life', so it's only right to see the tables turned.
ReplyDeleteTeary.

ReplyDeleteJudging from the reactions, I simply dare not play this now. (Like 'Starting Over', above, maybe later). I know it'll cut just too deep.
ReplyDeleteLike Raybeard, I have read some of the comments and am nearly crying already, so I shan't watch !!

ReplyDeleteI remember watching this live, and I've watched it many times since. He was one of a kind.
ReplyDeleteWhat a moving poem. Teary eyed thinking of all our past pets. Loved them all to bits. x
