I'm buggered

Monday night! It returns!!!
I'm buggered!!!!!
Home after night shift and no food in the fridge even though it was my fault was a somewhat irritating experience.
I just opened the fridge door and repeated fuckity fuck fuck until I made myself chuckle
So it was beans on dry toast for breakfast followed by an orange
Yes all very wartime rationing !
I'm off to bed without even a wash.....
Another twelve hour shift starts tonight

Glad you found something to eat, though like you I'd miss butter on my toast, especially with baked beans. There's no better feeling than sinking into bed after a night shift. Sweet dreams XOX

  3. I won't say 'Nighty Night', but 'Dayday', have a lovely restorative sleep! X

  4. You have just discovered the joys of being single. I've just eaten beans on dry toast, why bother buttering it anyway? Bed without a wash! I do it all the time, not sleeping with anyone except the cat, and she doesn't care. Get up when you like, go to bed when you like, or don't go to bed at all. Bliss.

  5. Well, beans on dry toast doesn't sound SO bad. I eat like that even when we do have food around!

  6. Gave up washing before bed after a night shift - made me feel wide awake - so you are not alone there!

  7. Good healthy breakfast there - healthier than a couple of scotch eggs any day. Are you able to get an order delivered where you live? I get an order early on a Tuesday morning (8am) from Tesco (if you have it mid week it is a much cheaper delivery charge)and it saves me having to think what to eat all week. You need to have forty pounds worth but you can always fill the freezer too - then you will never be in this morning's situation again. x
    PS Sleep well

  8. Have you started working again, or is it Samaritan duty?

  9. Not too shabby for a fridge surprise breakfast! As for not showering, it's a bit like when a weary woman can't be asked to take off the makeup before hitting the pillow - only really a crime Womens Magazines.

    Sweet dreams!

Do stock up on food a bit when you wake up so tomorrow morning more yummy food will greet you when you look in the 'fridge.

  12. I'm like that after night shift. Fill your tummy with carbs so you can sleep. Hopefully your nights go well.

  13. Getting home from an exhausting day's work, feeling ravenous and finding there's virtually nothing to eat is a horrible experience. And in your case, not even a local takeaway (I assume) to send something round. *sad-face emoticon*

  14. Get through tonight and then you have Monday night's Walking dead to look forward to! Stock up when you can. If you had your chickens you could have had a couple of eggs too! :)

  15. I said the same thing when I got back from the car boot sale where the snack van had the lovely smell of bacon butties, and looked in the freezer and NO BACON!

  17. Reminds me of my daughter, home from school, opened the refrigerator door and exclaimed "Mom there's nothing in here but condiments!!"

  18. Looking forward to the new TWD, even though, yeah, maybe not as confident as I was a couple seasons back. But I'll still be there!

  19. Well, beans on dry toast shows how clever you are at fixing something when there is nothing to fix! Good luck with your next shift.

  20. Well, dammit. I hope you get a trip through Waitrose (?) soon.

  21. Have always enjoyed beans on toast but the Canadian side of me requires peanut butter on the toast!

  22. Twelve hour night shifts, oh joy. (The best thing about nights for me was the ham, egg and chips that the canteen served up in the early hours.)

  23. I know how you feel I had crisp butties for breakfast this morning after a long shift.

  24. On ‘nights’ I would have sold my soul to go home at 4 am,and snuggle into my bed , but come 8am the same day, in bed at home, I used to take ages to get off to sleep . It used to drive me potty !

  25. Sigh. I hope that by now you are sound asleep.

  26. Don't you just hate that! I hated shift work... I could never sleep after doing 24 hours on and 24 hours off. Fortunately mine were sleep shifts but the disruption to my sleeping patterns were horrendous! All I ever wanted to eat after was a bacon sarnie.

  32. Slim pickings, I’m glad you got some nibbles. My fridge gets that way; I swing the door open only to close and settle on my faithful PB with milk. Long shifts, hope you get some rest in between the 12 hour shifts. Gabs

  33. Thank god for canned food; it has saved me more than a few times! That's actually a very healthy breakfast. Sweet dreams, John. Twelve hour shifts are brutal for anyone but worse as age creeps up. I am not speaking from personal experience but from being around the hospital and the nursing home with my father. The older nurses and assistants found it hard. I don't understand why nurses actually voted for the change from eight hour shifts. They said it was to give them more time with their families, but on being asked, they will tell you they had to spend their first day "off" sleeping to catch up. Where is the benefit?

  34. OK - I am having a hard time having my comments take. I don't see anything that says that you need to approve them first.

Anyway - when we were 3 young children in grade school in Vermont, (USA) Mummy used to give us baked bean sandwiches with horse radish on them. I loved them. But, no one else in school had these sandwiches.

Of course today I know that we had them because our American mother worked for the American OWI, in London during the BLITZ. So, of course we had those sandwiches. Sending you a really big and heartfelt hug just to help a tiny bit with your alone-ness.

By the way, you are such a darling man - that I know that there will be another love (I do not mean animal-though that too is likely to happen knowing you) in your life. It really will happen. Hugs
