A Bridget Jones Night

I'd planned to go out with the affable despots tonight for a night in the pub but I didn't quite feel up to it.
I hope they understand.....of course they will.
Instead I did what any self respecting gay middle aged old pongo does when faced with the glums
I put my pyjamas on, made chicken and Thai noodles, Skyped a friend for an hour, and rearranged the living room furniture .
I also set up a cheap DVD player I had bought from the supermarket and am now sobbing myself through Amelie
I now have an armchair for reading in

  1. I myself would add a big container of ice cream to that mix.

  3. Very true Ms Moon and rearranging furniture is always good.

  4. I bought some slow-cooked brisket with a garlic bbq sauce, had it with the "last Baguette" and some corn picked at 4 am this morning....so they say. This is how I get through things John, and remember, you have a standing invitation....in a month bring a warm coat.

    1. Audrey is quite delightful isn't she?

    2. No, she is insufferable to anyone who isn't a low fat chocolate pudding.

    3. Now tom I thought you'd have the hots for her she's a dish

    4. The launch posters of her staring into the camera like a gonk who had just had a carrot stuck up her arse put me off right from the start.

    5. I agree about the picture but that was just bad marketing. She’s adorable as all get out.

    6. Oh, alright then. I do fancy her really, but that's not saying much these days.

  11. Wow,your armchair looks really comfortable! Sometimes tucking in at home with a film to watch in pajamas with our fur family feels better than going out gallavanting with a crowd. There'll be plenty of other times at the pub when you want them. It's nice that you have those options.-Mary

You might think that is your armchair now but how long before it's taken over by a dog?

  14. A good sob, or a good laugh, both are very therapeutic

  15. Love her gentle cheekiness, also curling up in the livingroom with a bowl of meat and veg and a movie or such.

  16. Vanilla Ice cream for me please . . .
    Homemade warm chocolate sauce . . .
Like the looks of your reading corner John . . .

  17. To me that's just about an ideal evening anyway. Maybe less movie and more book, though :)

  18. I would add (for winter) to that chair ... an electric pet blanket. Ok, this is something I haven't shared with anyone, and it may sound weird, but I bought a wee electric blanket for my dear aging dog. I have not sold it even tho' Shelly died three years ago. I pop it on my comfiest chair under a thin blanket, and ooohhhh ahhh, so nice to have a warm bot on a cold winter's evening.

  20. Let it out! When I need a good ugly cry I put on the aria from Pagliacci. Whatever sh!t I'm dealing with pales into insignificance compared with his! xo

  21. Looks and sounds comfy. Love the chair.

  22. I lost count of how many times I have seen Amelie and I admit to crying every time. :)

  23. Your sitting room epitomises 'cosiness'; and a good cry occasionally does a power of good.

  24. 'Amelie'? Mais oui, et bien sur!

  25. Your reading corner looks lovely I don't cry very often when I watch a movie but when I do I find myself crying over a whole lot of things and I feel a lot better after.

  26. That armchair looks so inviting. Even for sobbing your way through Amelie. I hope tonight is more a "Mrs. Doubtfire"/"Big"/"Ferris Bueller's Day Off" kind of night.

  27. Comfy chair, comfort food, a favourite film and friends who understand sounds just what you needed x

  28. A good cry flushes away a tiny bit of heartache. And each good cry flushes out a little bit more. Gradually over time you will flush it all away and start with a sparkling new life. Give it time love, it's early days yet.

  29. I've never seen Amelie. Don't think it is right for me just now as I feel would cry if someone said as much as boo to me. I watched a programme on Sky Atlantic John that might appeal to you. It is a documentary series from 2011 called Fish Town set in Brixham, Devon and is about the people that live and work there. You would love Pat the scouse landlady of the Maritime Inn. She is in her 70's and went for a sponsored sky dive. She said to the camera man 'if me false teef fall out on the way down, follow the teeth and not me as I want to know where to find them.'

  30. Time to get out of the chair and start kickin' ass John...onwards and upwards my love xx

  32. The exercise therapists were happy to find I have a comfy recliner in the living room, in front of the TV. But, I have not sat in it since Trump was elected. It will be good to get back to it in a couple of years, with a big bowl of coffee ice cream.

  33. I loved that movie. And staying home and feeling sad is not a bad thing. I think grief takes a year to work through. You don't have to rush. You don't have to get back on the horse, although I know that sounds dirty, right away.

I had to look up pongo as I didn't know what it meant.

Hope you have a good day.

  34. We all need a good sob now and then, and movies are a great catalyst! This is all part of adapting, I'm sure.

  35. So nice to have an invite out, but sometimes you just need to stay home, nest and have a good cry. Great film choice btw and loving the cozy armchair.

  36. Loving your little reading corner. Can I have it when you decide to change up?

  37. My DVD collection has grown massively since they started to be sold for literally pennies at car boot sales and in charity shops. And you can't beat a movie night of your own choosing. Microwave popcorn is always good to have in the cupboard and is low cal ... and the chickens love the leftovers the next day 😊
