Welfare........Pay It Forward!

60 years ago, Trelawnyd had it's own Welfare Committee .
It's remit was to champion village causes, and provide the upkeep and maintenance of the village Hall.
Four committee members are still going strong Mr Bryn Davis, Christine Davis and Islwyn Thomas remain in the village and Auntie Gladys ( bottom far left) now lives only 2 miles away.
They breed them tough in Trelawnyd.
In the early 1970s the welfare committee morphed into The Trelawnyd Flower Show Committee and for 44 years the Hall and village continued to be gifted monies from the proceeds of each and every show.
Today members of the Flower Show Committee hijacked the village Friendship group meeting in order to disperse our final donations
We have chosen four village initiatives and one local charity to support

Trelawnyd School £500
Trelawnyd Friendship Group £750
Trelawnyd's new Community Association £1000
The Memorial Hall Trelawnyd £ 223.40
Rhyl Samaritans £1000

It's lovely giving money to people who are not expecting it. The school  had no idea they were even getting a donation and the community Association were only expecting a hundred pounds or so it's a win/ win all round .
Everyone made a bit of a speech, cakes and tea were served and the junior classes of the school sang and shuffled their feet in front of the grey hairs

Speaking of wins
Thank you to the anonymous gift leaver
Who left these goodies in a bag on the garden gate
With the cryptic note " chicken man john "

  4. Wasn't "Chicken Man John" the title of an independent film made in the nineties - about a former ICU nurse from North Wales who thought he could fly? Needless to say it all ended tragically.

  7. Awww - surprise gifts are definitely the best, both the ones you received (someone loves you) and the ones the Flower Show Committee gave. Those are really significant sums, and they could have a big impact for the village organisations. Well done to all the Flower Show members.

  21. Well done, Flower Show. Now, omit every detail except one: will you keep your kitchen? I lost my bathroom and the walk in shower, remember, and so the law of
Sod tipps in favor of your kitchen.

  24. Congratulations on a wonderful way to give back to the community. It's amazing what people can do when they work together for a common, good cause. It's marvelous how you've all kept the tradition going.

And want a wonderful present to find at your gate! So thoughtful and delightful!

I only find religious pamphlets and flyers from the local electronics and furniture store stuck on my door. People want to save my soul and sell me stuff made in China.

  26. What a lovely village. I hope you can stay, it suits you. On another note, you must come to Los Angeles some day and meet your chicken counterpart. He is Chicken Boy, the Statue of Liberty of Los Angeles. Not sure if I am allowed to link, but if it does not work, Google Chicken Boy in Los Angeles. He even has his own website, chickenboydotcom: http://www.chickenboy.com/the-true-story-of-chicken-boy.html
