Film Fest

The tv is broken , which can only be a good thing.
So last night was a bit of a marathon of film waiting via laptop.
I sobbed at Fernanda Montenegro's performance in Central Station...thought that My Best Friend's Wedding looked ever so slightly dated and lost myself in How to train a dragon

Today I am off to Chester with my sister in law then it's a barbecue with the affable despots .
No film watching today

  1. Enjoy Chester and hope the rain keeps off for that barbeque. And if Scotch eggs are on offer then have a couple. (one for you and one for mex)

    1. Also, H.I. had left the sound up full blast and the opening chord almost made me fall off the stool.

  6. If Winnie comes along to the barbecue you can have a hot dog. Just cut a bloomer in half and place within.

  12. I never got on with My Best Friend's Wedding. It's not often in a romcom that you are asked NOT to support the wishes and hopes of the star. It confused me.

  15. We're busy laying turf ... in the pouring rain. The grass might like it, I don't ☹

Have fun in Chester and at the BBQ.

  16. When I was a kid, my mother cut the plug off the television set because my brother and I came home from school one quarter with mediocre grades. We lived without it for about six months, and it's amazing how productive you can be when you're NOT watching TV!

  17. I always seem to get this movie mixed up with The Next Best Thing for some reason. Me thinks Rupert Everett throws me off. I enjoyed both movies though.

  19. I nearly went to a barbeque this week but it became an indoor affair as rain forecast. Then the sun came out and we moved outside after lunch x

  21. I like Julia and Rupert and Cameron (and, for that matter, Susan, whom I have fond memories of from Rich Man, Poor Man II) but that movie just doesn't do it for me. I don't mean to sound dated myself, but I never bought the film's central premise. Some great individual scenes, though, especially everybody singing "Say a Little Prayer" in the restaurant.
