  2. OMG we used to watch this when my mum had gone to work and my dad watched it. I used to pretend to be asleep on the sofa!

  3. I hold it entirely responsible for my dislike of both the Japanese and conservatory furniture...

  4. My Scottish friend waited for his wife to go to Edinburgh before playing an old VCR tape of pornography someone had lent him. He sat through 15 minutes of sweaty, dirty women swearing at each other in Australian accents before some adverts came up. Someone had recorded over an episode of 'Prisoner Cell Block H'. Tenko would have worked well too.

  6. Loved this programme first time round. Wasn't sure I could watch it again, but I did. Like you, loved Rose and Blanche, but such strong performances all round. Read Russell Braddon's Naked Island when I was 13 and this period of history has haunted me ever since.

  8. It scared me! I am no good with violent stuff.

    How's the thumb?

  9. Never seen this or even heard of it before. But I am adding it to the list of shows to watch.

Is closed captioning available? I have trouble understanding English sometimes, especially when spoken by the British. I couldn't understand the first thirty minutes of Trainspotting (1996)! Nevermind Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998) and Snatch (2001). And I had to watch Chariots of Fire (1981) three times before I finally understood the dialogue I had missed the first two times watching it!

I hope there are service organizations helping the British learn to speak English. I hope they start with London and the Scots and Irish. Plus, the Welsh and those Northumbrians...

Surprisingly, I can understand the Aussies and Kiwis clearly.

We'll discuss proper spelling (and driving lanes) another day. Cheers!

  10. In reality the Japanese were much more violent, and committed far more atrocities, than was represented by Tenko, but I suppose they couldn't show it.

  11. Yep, I was a fan of Tenko. My mum liked the Doctor played by the marvelous Stephanie Cole. Such fantastic characters.
Have you read Neville Shute's A Town Like Alice ? The origional film and the TV series were great.

  16. I enjoyed this (if that's the right word for such a distressing subject) the first time round. Amazed when I saw it listed, only last week, on Sky. Not sure I could watch it again.
