Operation Dog Snot Removal

Spring Cleaning!
Epic music blasting out
Too much strong coffee causing slight jitters
Dogs safely in the garden ( with Albert)
Living room furniture on the window ledges and outside the back door
Coal dust, soot, dust and dog hair sucked from every nook cranny and orifice
Throws, blankets and patchworks all hand washed and are hanging from the field gate in the lane.
It looks like we have had a flood.
A neighbour passed and waved
" I see your mother in law is about to visit !" They noted.
Bookends and Staffordshire bits drying on the draining board

  2. I trust you are wearing your floral pinny and your yellow Marigolds. Got to look right when Inspector Sorrel arrives.

  3. The right and only time to clean I say! The visitation of a VIP is the perfect excuse, any other time is just a blooming waste. I’m not called the Top Show Queen for nothing you know!

John, you will sit back with exhaustion coursing through your veins, you will look around admiring your hard work, and if you’re like me, will think I will keep it up. The much loved guest goes home and ever so slowly standards slip...

    1. Too many ‘wills’, but hey, you get my drift?

My trouble is I fire off a comment then look at it and think ‘Oh sh*t!’ I should have taken a sub editors pill.

  5. Yes, same here. If you hear my vacuum going, you know that I'm expecting visitors. I'll even clear the washing-up pile. And top up the fragrant citrus oil on the bowls of pot pourri.

When my late Mum was about to visit (which wasn't often) my Husband would say, "I see we are expecting the Royal visit".

Good to see you back John

  8. That's a good old fashioned spring cleaning. I remember helping my mother take dishes that we never used out of the china cabinet to wash, once a year, before we put them back into the cabinet. WTF!

That being said, I should probably pull my couch away from the wall and have a good clean back there:)

  22. Pets in the yard, hand washed items drying on the gate, furniture on windowsills and out the back, and the flurry of furious cleaning. That's funny your neighbor seems to recognize the omens of your mother-in-law's arrival!

A good Spring cleaning is refreshing for both home and the soul. You'll be tired. But you'll also be proud and grateful for the clean, reenergized, and reorganized home. Best wishes and much strength to you on your preparations for your guest's arrival and stay. Good luck and Cheers to a wonderful visit!

The problem with unexpected visitors is that I have to clean like mad after they have gone, to try to convince myself that it wasn't that bad really.

  40. I read somewhere, perhaps Mrs Beeton says this, that a "properly decorated" sitting room should take 4 hours for a maid to dust. She mustn't have factored in the impact of a resident pack.
