" Olla Winifred"

I thought Winnie had taken a turn for the worse yesterday afternoon.
She was refusing food ,  vomiting and was more lethargic than usual ( if that could be at all possible)
The Spanish vet seemed more interested in Winnie's knackered baby teeth than her bowels but gave her a physical examination , injected her with an antiemetic and gave me some oral ranitidine to settle her stomach.
"Tomorrow, try her with some pasta and chicken " she lisped
Winnie looked very sorry for herself as the vet bid us " adios "
Back at home ( sorry intensive care) Winnie dozed fitfully by the fire and periodically presented her sore tummy to me to be rubbed gently.
This morning things seem to be somewhat better

The hint of a grin following roast chicken breasts and spaghetti

  1. For all that they were scavengers as much as hunters in the wild, dogs were never designed for the amount of seed that Winnie inflicted on herself, poor dear.

At least she didn't need her stomach pumped because she'd eaten a j-cloth, like a friend's kitten many years ago.

  3. I was so worried about dear Winnie. I'm so glad she's on the mend. Will it stop her in future? I very much doubt it!

  4. Oh dear, she does look sorry for herself. On the other hand, maybe she will take every opportunity to do the same again, if it means tummy rubs, followed by chicken and spaghetti !

  6. Hw could you not love that face. I am glad Winnie is on the mend. Plain rice works well too to settle a dog tummy.

  7. Poor baby. That's what she gets, I guess, for eating like a bird.

  8. Winnie thinks she’s beautiful and she is. Just don’t be tempted to let an orthodontist or a botox expert within a mile of her.

We regularly see the ‘barking at the moon’ bulldog on the prom. The other day we stopped and had a word with her mum and dad, and little sister in a pushchair. ‘She is 18 months old and as mad as a box of frogs!’ says her mum! Until then the only bulldog I’ve met is Winnie via your blog, and what characterful dogs they are. I do so want a dog, but the man says no!

Thank goodness we were so worried. I don't suppose for one minute it will discourage her from doing it again.

Please give her a hug from us

  22. Yesterday I read your blog about Winnie eating the birdseed to my son and his girlfriend who had come out for a visit. They laughed and Hank said, "That's good stuff!" meaning your writing and it is.
Which is what Winnie is saying about the chicken and pasta and now you have given me an idea for our supper.

  23. She says "feed me peasant" "rub my belly peasant" and you gladly do. We all would because they beguile us :)

  44. Oh dear ... poor Winnie and poor you!I have experienced that situation a couple of times Ebony our dear departed Doberman ate a full 35kg bag of biscuits when she was being treated for Immune Mediated PolyArthritis ... shite is a small word for thunderous evacuations and costly vet visit!! (xrays ect) And our friends Cavalier that ate a bag of macadamia nuts... saw her staggering and said what the?? another costly vet visit (apparently many nuts are poisonous to dogs) We live and learn. Interesting how our dear furry ones present their tummy for TLC - they don't need to 'talk' at all.

  45. Penny Cat made a bid for suicide by greed during Snowmageddon , not a chance of getting her to the vet . Very sorry for herself then threw up what turned out to be the elastic string from the previous days pork joint , she then looked at us and went to miow by her food dish

So pleased to read that Winnie is on the mend. Our pets often catch us unawares and gorge themselves on something totally unsuitable, in our case it was a welsh pony who wandered into the shed found a cupboard that looked interesting and proceeded to eat the bag of rat poison therein. Several vets visits , injections and copious amounts of Epsom salts culminating five days later with said vet saying “ when you can’t catch your patient it’s generally a good sign”. Young Taffy went on to lead a charmed life and never lost his propensity to hunt out inappropriate snacks.
