Sinking Feeling

James, the Ikea kitchen planner spent over an hour planning my " new" dream kitchen!
Winnie spent the time giving goo goo eyes at him whilst sitting at his feet with her head on his lap
"She's a bit clingy " James noted wryly
" Welcome to my world" I told him as bulldog spittle ran down his pantleg
I nearly cried when he showed me my dream sink!
I'm bloody well easily pleased

  5. I love that sink....modern yet, quaint, but functional. Are you sure you weren't the one drooling down James' leg? I see you want to tiles too. I can't blame you. They are clean, but yet keep a vintage feel. Bravo.

  9. Bulldog spittle should be sold in pharmacies as an aphrodisiac.

  10. I have that sink - my kitchen was designed around it. It looks gorgeous BUT it doesn't drain easily and gets airlocks all the time. It's a nightmare. Now our plugs have worn out ( it's 8 years old) and they have changed the design so we can't replace them. Sigh.

  11. I had a sink just like that, although one side was huge and the other smaller but it was nice and deep .. I loved it. You could wash anything in it .. children, dogs ..

  15. Love the sink and tiles !
I have a big kitchen sink and I love it but for me I would do the sink under the counter. That way you can just wipe everything off the counter into the sink. My sink sit on the counter like you show and I am always scrubbing the hard water stains off the edge.
    Good luck !

    cheers, parsnip xx

  17. Here in Oz we don't use those ceramic style kitchen sinks very often, and the deep ones look very inconvenient to me, but that one looks marvelous! I want one now!

  18. You will love the tile backsplash. Tile is beautiful and so easy to keep clean, especially if you select a colored grout.

    1. And have the tile setters set with a very narrow groutline. It looks more modern and there is less grout to get grungy and mildewy. They won't do the tight set unless you ask for it.

  19. If I had a sink like that John, I might spend time in the kitchen, looking at it.

  20. Love it, John. I just ordered one, too, for our new house. (being built next to the mouse-house and joined with a breeze-way)I'm pretty excited, too. :) Love the tile you want, too.

  21. It's beautiful! I'd be SO excited!

Pity James didn't know what a compliment he was getting, eh?

  22. John I had a sink with a high lip like that and while it looks gorgeous, the lip is really annoying. You can t wipe crumbs and bitsies into the sink to clean the counters, you have to wipe them into your hand, evrything ends up on the floor, it's just a constant little thing you get very tired of quickly. I think you can get a beautiful similar sink with under counter mounting! I had mine removed, the replacement is flush w the counters. Not as pretty but efficient. Like you I cook and bake a lot. I need clean counters and clean floors.
The cutting board counters with the hole in them, goes right to the bin below, are very cool. They have a little cover that slots in flush when not in use.

Love your inspiration kitchen, even the grey cabinets! [I know you said off-white, but the grey is very chic.]

  23. I've always wanted a sink just like that. I'm so excited for you, John!

  24. My double bowl sink is all in one with the counter tops - made of Corian. I've had it about 10 years and still love it. Like the undermounted readers are mentioning, it's so much easier to clean up/wipe down with one smooth level surface.
I love that you are choosing subway tile John - it will look great - and off-white cabinets will be lovely. I was at IKEA Sunday and so want their grey or cream kitchen.
You certainly deserve a nice new kitchen - I know how much time you spend there!

  25. Wonderful - I love the look, but agree the lip would drive me crazy. And the colours are fantastic too.

Hi, I had that same sink fitted in 2011, its amazing. I had all ways wanted that sort of sink and was 65, before I could have my dream kitchen. I love it, never had any problems with it . Can't wait to see a pic of your kitchen finished.

  28. I prefer a large single sink. I can wash platters, large pans etc. more easily. Mine sits above the counter edge and the only pain is between the sink edge and the wall behind it. It is a narrow space and hard to keep clean so it isn't pristine very often.

  29. We have just had the same style tiles put in.

  30. It looks like something right out of HGTV. Subway tiles are very trendy and white/off-white cabinets are what people many people prefer today. I am sure you will love it when it is completed.

  31. We inherited free standing Habitat units in this house when we bought it. The sink is double but has a drainer which has a draining rack on. I also use a plastic washing up bowl or all the plates would chip !

  32. I want that sink!!! And Winnie to make goo goo eyes at me.

  33. I dream of a sink similar to that, but deeper and quite big so that I can bath/shower the dog in it...it kills my back doing him in the bath!!

  34. My thing is taps, loved sorting our 2 bathroom and kitchen. You can't beat a beautiful long arch in the kitchen and retro bath taps and shower head.
