We all first met in 1989.
Mostly nurses ( but not all) we trained lived and socialised with each other as the city of Sheffield went through a renaissance of sorts and cleaned up its act
It was ( and is) a lovely city.
Yesterday we all met up again.
A couple of us with greying hair and a few more wrinkles.
A couple of us now retired!
One of us with a daughter heading for secondary school!
Four of us married, two single
All pretty normal from all accounts.
This morning I am off home.
And I wave goodbye to old friends and the super tram thundering over the bridge near Hyde Park Flats
Good times
Super tram from my hotel window
The Water Wall Midland Station
I'm guessing you stayed at The Hotel Ibis or was it the Travelodge? Both not far from where Castle Market used to be. Well done to whoever organised the "March of Time" reunion.
ReplyDeleteIbis...always clean and comfortable
DeleteWednesday or United?
ReplyDeleteWednesday of course, our last house overlooked the stadium
DeleteWow!
DeleteI thought you must have been speaking some obscure Sheffield dialect here, but then I googled the entire question, in quotes. I think it's ADORABLE that there is a soccer team called "Wednesday" that takes the OWL as its mascot. It seems like they're not half bad, either. My home town of Philadelphia has a university called Temple that uses the owl for its sports team, the first university in America to take the owl as mascot. If I ever go to Sheffield I'll have to wear my Temple fightin' owl T-shirt to fit.
DeleteIt's so wonderful to have kept friend for so long. Is anyone really "normal"?
So special that you all could connect after all these years. I knew Sheffield only slightly and that was before its renaissance. But it holds a special place in my heart thanks to the kind staff at St Luke's Hospice... and my first scrumpy pub.
ReplyDeleteA couple of friends from last night have connections with st Luke's
ReplyDeleteJohn:
DeleteI've seen online how St. Luke's has grown. It was already exceptional in 1981 and I will be forever grateful for the care and kindness they showed my sister and our entire family. Thank those friends for me for being part of something that makes such a difference to so many people. I love them without even meeting them.
Sheffield is a great place.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that where you used to get drunk a lot?
ReplyDeleteIndeed rachel , among other things
DeleteOther things? Dancing like John Travolta on a table in "All Bar One" and riding on the number 95 bus past Crookes Valley Park and through Commonside singing "The Wheels on the Bus".
DeleteOld friends are the best.
ReplyDeleteSounds wonderful! Sheffield is now on 'my list'.
ReplyDeleteGood looking group there. Glad you can reconnect. That is what makes life better.
ReplyDeleteAre they all the same since '89?
ReplyDeleteNever been to Sheffield. Maybe I will visit one day. :)
ReplyDeletegood to catch up with mates
ReplyDeleteI spent (with my new husband of course) the first night of my first honeymoon (in 1952) in The Grand Hotel in Sheffield. We broke our journey there on our way up North. No transport moved fast in those days abd Scotland was too far in one evening after the wedding.
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing like spending time with old workmates! Very nice.
ReplyDeleteI'm always surprised how the years melt away when I meet with old friends. It's like we never parted.
