Fantasy

When I officially retired , last Monday, I indulged myself in the briefest of fantasies which featured an occasional lie in, under a warm duvet.
Fat chance.
It was warm in our bedroom this morning around dawn and so I slipped a thigh from under the covers in order to fall back to sleep. Moments later I awoke to the not unpleasant but certainly rather surprising sensation of a feline tongue energetically licking my left buttock.
No lie in today then I thought
I've already walked the dogs, collected bread. Taken The Prof to the station and am in the process of hand writing thank you cards to the Flower Show Committee before I make the bed and take the car to the garage.
It's not even 7.30 am

  5. Alan has similar moments with Ginger ... but it's usually his hairy arms being groomed while he watches television.

  6. I saw a card recently which said "The trouble with retirement is that you never get a day off"!

  8. Ah the duvet, a thought I think all day!

  9. A move to the beach might get you that lie-in you fantasized about. (Although I have a feeling you'd fill your life with work no matter where you lived.)

  10. Having a lie in is overrated. Best to get started early then have an afternoon nap! :)

  11. How did you train Albert to lick your buttocks? I knew you were an animal lover but not in that way.

  12. Obviously nobody warned you that you would fantasize about being back at work so you could get a rest! Welcome to the busy world of retirement.

  13. The whole life/work ethic is a fallacy. Since I retired I have had to force myself to at least take Sunday off! I think it is a case of the other mans grass is greener. When at work you wish you were at home and vice versa. It all takes time to adjust and you will get there. Enjoy! and rest when you have to do. Love Andie xxx

  14. A lie in, once you're retired, is a fantasy most of us dream about ! When the weather is good, up early and out and about is the best time of the day.

  16. All that will happen is you will end up wondering how you found the time to work at the hospital at all!

  17. In 6 weeks time I will have been retired for one year, firstly I don't know where the time has gone, and secondly I've never been so busy! Having said that I wouldn't change a thing. Enjoy your retirement its simply the best.

  22. A few months after my husband retired, we went on a trip .. we liked the place so much that we decided to leave NY and move there ... then while we were living there we visited a city in the US that was really cool and nice so we moved there ... that winter we went to Buenos Aires on a holiday - we loved it - so we moved there ... This is just giving you an idea of what goes on when some people retire ....

  23. Now the real work begins. You will be busier than ever now that you're at home 24-7.

  27. One of my favorite things about being retired is the afternoon nap! Right after lunch I read for about 15 minutes then drift off for about 45 min. nap...heaven!

  28. If you have a bedroom door, closing it might be the only way to get a lie-in. And even that might not work, sadly. The indignation when pets are shut out of their comfy bed can be loud :)

  32. Its loosing that blissful moment after a nightshift when sinking into cool sheets and (briefly ) thinking in theory I can sleep all day guilt free. There is also nothing quite like receiving a well crafted handwritten thank you note at any time.

  39. I think that every single person I know that retires, tends to fling themselves into everything in a sort of mania. Then they settle down. Let's hope that works for you, too.
