When I officially retired , last Monday, I indulged myself in the briefest of fantasies which featured an occasional lie in, under a warm duvet.
Fat chance.
It was warm in our bedroom this morning around dawn and so I slipped a thigh from under the covers in order to fall back to sleep. Moments later I awoke to the not unpleasant but certainly rather surprising sensation of a feline tongue energetically licking my left buttock.
No lie in today then I thought
I've already walked the dogs, collected bread. Taken The Prof to the station and am in the process of hand writing thank you cards to the Flower Show Committee before I make the bed and take the car to the garage.
It's not even 7.30 am

You are such a good home maker and community person! I take my hat off to you.
ReplyDeleteEchoing kylie. I am often up well before five - but not usually being productive.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't the Prof then?
ReplyDeletehee hee hee!
DeletePeople would pay good money for that I've heard.......
ReplyDeletehee hee hee!
DeleteAlan has similar moments with Ginger ... but it's usually his hairy arms being groomed while he watches television.
ReplyDeleteI saw a card recently which said "The trouble with retirement is that you never get a day off"!
ReplyDeleteArilx
It is good to get up early. Gets lots done.
ReplyDeleteAh the duvet, a thought I think all day!
ReplyDeleteA move to the beach might get you that lie-in you fantasized about. (Although I have a feeling you'd fill your life with work no matter where you lived.)
ReplyDeleteHaving a lie in is overrated. Best to get started early then have an afternoon nap! :)
ReplyDeleteHow did you train Albert to lick your buttocks? I knew you were an animal lover but not in that way.
ReplyDeleteObviously nobody warned you that you would fantasize about being back at work so you could get a rest! Welcome to the busy world of retirement.
ReplyDeleteThe whole life/work ethic is a fallacy. Since I retired I have had to force myself to at least take Sunday off! I think it is a case of the other mans grass is greener. When at work you wish you were at home and vice versa. It all takes time to adjust and you will get there. Enjoy! and rest when you have to do. Love Andie xxx
ReplyDeleteA lie in, once you're retired, is a fantasy most of us dream about ! When the weather is good, up early and out and about is the best time of the day.
ReplyDeleteand you wonder how you did all this AND still worked in nursing!
ReplyDeleteAll that will happen is you will end up wondering how you found the time to work at the hospital at all!
ReplyDeleteIn 6 weeks time I will have been retired for one year, firstly I don't know where the time has gone, and secondly I've never been so busy! Having said that I wouldn't change a thing. Enjoy your retirement its simply the best.
ReplyDeleteNext time, stay there and ignore the cat.
ReplyDeleteSmiling . . .
ReplyDeleteI somedays feel that I'm busier in retirement than when I worked!
ReplyDeleteI knew you were an animal lover but not in that way.

The difference between love and lurve
DeleteTypical retiree....busier than ever!
ReplyDeleteA few months after my husband retired, we went on a trip .. we liked the place so much that we decided to leave NY and move there ... then while we were living there we visited a city in the US that was really cool and nice so we moved there ... that winter we went to Buenos Aires on a holiday - we loved it - so we moved there ... This is just giving you an idea of what goes on when some people retire ....
ReplyDeleteNow the real work begins. You will be busier than ever now that you're at home 24-7.
ReplyDeleteAh those raspy feline tongues. When unexpectd they can certainly raise your eyebrows a notch.
ReplyDeleteRetirement isn't all it's cracked up to be, especially of the lounging about in bed front.

ReplyDeleteWhat the **** ???
DeleteJust a spammer, or a spam bot. Don't fret, NOA - they just snatch a piece of a real comment to make theirs look legitimate.
DeleteOne of my favorite things about being retired is the afternoon nap! Right after lunch I read for about 15 minutes then drift off for about 45 min. nap...heaven!
ReplyDeleteIf you have a bedroom door, closing it might be the only way to get a lie-in. And even that might not work, sadly. The indignation when pets are shut out of their comfy bed can be loud :)
ReplyDeleteI had to smile when you actually thought life would give you leisure after retirement.
ReplyDeleteNothing about your life is normal
ReplyDeleteVery true my friend
DeleteEventually you will begin to wonder how on earth you had the time to work, lol

Its loosing that blissful moment after a nightshift when sinking into cool sheets and (briefly ) thinking in theory I can sleep all day guilt free. There is also nothing quite like receiving a well crafted handwritten thank you note at any time.
ReplyDeleteI agree...a handwritten note thesedays is something special
DeleteYour lists of daily activities are mind-boggling. I couldn't keep up that pace for long. I envy your stamina and energy levels.
ReplyDeleteWhen I retired,my brother who retired a year before me, told me you shop monday to friday in the morning. He was right. It's in the retiree memo.
ReplyDeleteNo rest for the wicked John.
ReplyDeleteYou are delighting in a different kind of retirement.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the world of retirees. I've never worked so hard in my life!
ReplyDeleteSo goes retirement!
ReplyDeleteI think that every single person I know that retires, tends to fling themselves into everything in a sort of mania. Then they settle down. Let's hope that works for you, too.
ReplyDeleteA feline tongue doing a pedicure is bliss. Enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't keep up that pace for long. I envy your stamina and energy levels.
