Gop Hill and The Village

A recent video of the neolithic burial mount on Gop Hill below which the village nestles.
There is a lovely shot of the village at the end!
Relax and enjoy
Ps..tomorrow's post tells the tale of how I was nearly beaten up selling raffle tickets today!

There looks to be a lot of minerals in that hill. Just a tiny test bore to see if it worth mining.

  5. Thanks for sharing. Gop Hill looks very special.

Was it Mrs Trellis who tried to beat you up? You wouldn't stand a chance!

  8. Very much enjoyed that, thanks John. One day I would love to do a Druid's tour of the UK. :)

  9. I really enjoyed that. Thank you, and I hope tomorrow's post will not be too violent.

  10. Now I will need to do a google search to find out why villages there have the houses so close together! I grew up in a village; the homes in it are within sight of their neighbours - but only just. That is typical of most villages I've seen on the east coast of Canada.

You are living in a place of real beauty, and that burial mound is of special interest. Something else to google!

    2. Thank you for that information that I was already aware of, YP, but there's still a lot of land without houses in the surrounding area. What I meant to point out was that our villages, although the same size as the region in question, with the same number of houses in it, are spread throughout the area instead of being clustered together. Perhaps we are all just anti-social here :)

    3. If they spread out in the same way in the UK, they would have no farmland left. It's very sensible to cluster the homes together and leave the farms and woodlands open, especially since you can get put of town and walk across a lot of it, unlike in places without footpaths and rights of way.

  13. Glorious video, simply glorious!
But now you've left us with a cliff-hanger for your next post. We're all, I'm sure, waiting and panting with tongues out. I know I am. (Hell, although I note your 'nearly', I do hope you didn't sustain the slightest injury!)

  15. I love the way every single house seems to be built of indigenous stone. Here, although most houses are Dales stone cottages, other materials are creeping in and it is such a shame. Lovely shot John.

  16. That was a really lovely bit of video. I love drone photography so much that I am seriously thinking about buying a good one, but there are many restrictions on using them which will get tighter due to idiots flying them over airports. I like that you can see the drone operator sitting on top of Gop Hill in all the shots. He doesn't even look up during the low pass.

    2. I was confident that it wouldn't hit the back of my head. Ish. Noisy when close though.

    3. Oh - here you are. Congratulations on your superb flying skills in conjunction with the photographic ones. Quick question - how much did your kit cost? More than £800? If less, then you would turn me into Mr Toad for sure.

    4. Yes. Re the noise, once they have sorted that out, internal scenes would not need booms, tracked dollies or steady-cams again. Or sound dubbing for that matter!

    5. There is something quite magnificent and awe inspiring about the visuals especially that soaring shit over the top of Gop

    6. Hello Tom, Cheapest on eBay is currently around £700 for a Phantom 4, with auctions arriving just under that figure. There's a Phantom 3 for less but you'd want a pro instead of a standard version.

    1. You just know that the low-roofed cave at the foot of the Gop was once fought over between wolves, bears and people - a few thousand years ago and beyond.
